Change

Codex model records retain internal memory citation blocks that display records omit. The parser removes this metadata before pairing the records, so the chat and copy actions receive one clean answer.

Preserve literal examples in inline code and fenced code, including fences inside quotes and lists. Complete and unfinished metadata outside code stays hidden. User messages, tool output, final-answer phases and terminal rendering keep their behavior.

The changelog entry is under Unreleased with the original contributor's PR link and credit.

Validation

  • Final full unit suite on macOS with Bun 1.4.2: 1,467 passed, 15 skipped, 0 failed.
  • Generated type freshness, typecheck, production build and git diff check passed.
  • Regression coverage includes display/model pairing in both orders, complete/multiple/unfinished metadata, literal inline and fenced examples, nested quote/list boundaries, metadata containing Markdown delimiters, bounded malformed backtick input, and incremental snapshot isolation.
  • The original quoted-tag regression was reproduced against the prior implementation.
  • Required integration/browser CI runs against this PR's final commit before merge.

Screenshots

Before: the reporter's phone screenshot with identifying host and pane names, IP address, private reply text, memory entries, rollout ID, and timestamps covered. The citation tags remain visible. This is an image-edited redaction of the supplied screenshot.

After: the real browser client displaying output from the fixed Codex parser in an isolated fictional demo. This is a separate test conversation, not the reporter's live session. The demo pane's chrome says Claude; its conversation is parsed as Codex.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Codex replies now display without internal memory-citation markup or duplicate answer text, while preserving surrounding prose.
    • Citation-like text in code examples, quoted passages, and user or tool messages remains visible as written.

Walkthrough

Assistant message bodies now pass through a cleaner that removes memory-citation blocks. The cleaner preserves citation-like text in code spans and fenced code blocks. User-message handling remains unchanged.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The relevant potential disclosure scope is selection among existing rollout candidates available to a pane, rather than newly reachable services or data stores. Text normalization changes matching evidence, but the inspected PR does not enlarge the candidate store, introduce a new endpoint, or grant additional execution authority.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Long-answer matching still requires exactly one matching candidate path. Cross-pane claim checks include known own rollouts and an existing binding, with first-user-message evidence checked when available. Short-answer fallback requires fully listed, complete candidates and rejects multiple matches or displayed answers shared with another candidate.
  • inferred — Conversation selection continues to rely partly on content correlation rather than an immutable screen-to-rollout identity. That limitation predates this PR. Comparing normalized candidates and preserving the existing ambiguity checks did not establish an introduced wrong-pane disclosure path.
