fix(pending): recover disconnected untyped queued follow-ups as held - #3173
When an interactive socket disconnects or reloads while a queued follow-up message is still waiting (state: "queued" and !item.inFlight, or an in-flight attempt fails before typing), PendingInputs.hold transitions the server's record to "held" (reason: "owner_disconnected"). However:
On connection close (end(client, "closed")), state.closing = true is already set before pending.close(client) runs, so the owner socket never receives that "held" transition frame.
On the client (PendingMessageStore), suspend() and restored() conservatively convert any "queued" or "sending" row to "uncertain" (serverOwned: false) because the browser alone cannot know whether the server began typing before the socket dropped.
As a result, when a mobile or desktop browser loses its WebSocket connection while a follow-up is sitting in the queue (Will send when ready), reconnecting leaves the saved copy stuck in "uncertain" ("Not confirmed. Check the terminal before sending again.") with no Send now button, even though the server knows nothing was ever typed.
This change extends the existing resumable follow-up receipt mechanism (#2421, bounded to 10 minutes / 1024 entries / matching deviceId + receipt_resume_id) with outcome: "held":
When a follow-up with a resumeKey transitions to "held", keepReceipts records { outcome: "held", resumed: true } in completed (and pushes it to any already-attached successor with the same resumeKey).
If the held copy later leaves "held" ("sending", "uncertain") or is settled ("sent", "discarded", "dismissed"), including via resend_id after the 60s closed-owner retention window expires, the "held" receipt is superseded or removed so a later reconnect cannot overwrite a newer state.
On the client (PendingMessageStore), receiving { id, outcome: "held", resumed: true } (either after snapshot lifetime proof or before it via earlyResumedReceipts) transitions a non-authoritative saved copy (!serverOwned, unproved, !piReceipt, !resendInFlight, !unconfirmed) from "uncertain" to "held" and persists state: "held" to storage, restoring Held message — review and send and ↑ Send now.

Summary
Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Queued follow-up messages held after a connection drop or reload now appear as Held message — review and send when the receipt is restored, instead of remaining unconfirmed.
After reconnection, you can choose Send now or discard the held message. It is not typed automatically, and uncertain messages remain unconfirmed.
The change adds held to resumable follow-up receipts. The server tracks and replays eligible held receipts, and the client restores matching saved copies as held without confirming server ownership. Tests and documentation cover the receipt lifecycle and recovery behavior.

Summary
Held receipt contract and server replay shared/protocol.ts, server/core/pending.ts, server/core/pending.test.ts, server/pending-input.contract.test.ts
The receipt contract and server handling include the held outcome. The server retains and replays held receipts for eligible connections, and updates them after held-copy resends. Tests cover replay eligibility, expiry, and resend outcomes.
Saved-copy restoration and validation src/lib/pendingMessages.ts, src/lib/pendingMessages.test.ts, src/lib/machineSession.test.ts, DESIGN.md, changelog.d/queued-disconnect-held.md
The client restores matching saved copies as held without marking them server-owned, and clears held markers in specified state changes. Tests cover persistence and terminal receipts. The design and changelog describe held-message recovery.
devswha/ovis#1795: This PR covers typed Pi transcript receipts after disconnect; the current change excludes those receipts from held recovery.

Recovery can incorrectly offer Send now during an existing send or leave another pane’s saved message unconfirmed. These are bounded recovery issues; merging warrants owner awareness and follow-up. The reported CLA requirement also remains outstanding.

removes any matching held receipt before the `if (!kept) continue` check.
Preserve the resumability guard for adding or resuming receipts, so an earlier

Thanks a lot for this fix, @jimbb! We're reviewing it now and will push any follow-up changes to your branch ourselves. One small thing before it can merge: the CLA check is still pending - please see the CLA comment above and reply with the sign-off line there. Thanks!
Review fixes for the held receipt (devswha#3173):
- Send resumed held IDs in the pending-messages frame's own `held` field.
Clients that predate it remove a saved copy for any resumed removal, so
`outcome: "held"` in `removed` deleted unsent text there.
- Keep a held receipt only once the connection that queued the message has
closed. A sibling tab told about a live owner's held message could offer
it again after that owner's send ended uncertain.
- Apply a resumed held ID once, to the copy saved when it arrives, so a
later send of that copy from another tab is never held again.
- Turn a held receipt into a sent one only for the pane and browser it was
kept for.
…ction closed
Closing a connection now tells its already-held messages again, so the
close records their held receipt too (Codex re-review MEDIUM: a row held
while its owner was live got none, and its reconnecting browser kept it
uncertain).

Review summary (CodeRabbit did not review head 59c4f8f: review limit reached)
This PR touches queued input, so the maintainer-side reviews stand in for CodeRabbit on the last two commits. Thanks again @jimbb for the fix and the thorough tests. The follow-up commits below were pushed to your branch by us.
Reproduction: the PR's new tests run against origin/main give 9 failures out of 248, including the WebSocket contract case where a returning browser gets no held receipt. With the PR, all 248 pass.
Findings and resolutions
HIGH (omo + Codex, reproduced): a held receipt was pushed to a live owner's sibling tab (same browser resume id). After that owner's Send now ended uncertain, the sibling turned the saved uncertain row back into held and offered Send now again. Fixed in 0b1610b: held receipts are kept only once the queuing connection has closed, and the client applies a resumed held ID once, to the copy saved when it arrives.
HIGH (Codex, reproduced; omo rated it MEDIUM): { outcome: "held", resumed: true } inside removed[] made clients that predate it delete the unsent saved copy, since they treat any resumed removal as settled. Fixed in 0b1610b: resumed held IDs travel in the frame's own optional held field. PendingRemoval is unchanged.
LOW (omo; CodeRabbit thread): held receipts from live connections took completed slots. This is closed by (1).
LOW (omo; CodeRabbit thread): the resend path converted a held receipt without checking the pane or browser. Fixed in 0b1610b: the receipt becomes sent only for the same pane and resume key, and is otherwise dropped.
MEDIUM (Codex re-review of the fix, reproduced): a message already held while its owner was live got no receipt on close, because hold() republishes only queued or in-flight rows. Fixed in 59c4f8f: close() re-tells already-held rows. Covered by the "held before close" case.
Every new test case fails on the code before its fix and passes after.
Validation at 59c4f8f:bun run check fast green (typecheck, build, 12822 unit tests). Targeted runs: server/core/pending.test.ts, server/pending-input.test.ts, src/lib/pendingMessages.test.ts and src/lib/machineSession.test.ts (188 pass), plus server/pending-input.contract.test.ts (123 pass). The omo review is CLEAR at 59c4f8f, and the Codex re-review confirmed both HIGHs closed. No UI components changed, so no browser regressions were run.
