fix(chat): hold the chat still while a selection is in progress (#2650) - #2658
A reader who drags to select words in a chat reply while the agent's turn ends saw the words move under the mouse, and the selection ended on other words. #1922 meant a selection in progress never to move what is under it. On main (59e51d0, the demo build, a 60-step drag in the newest reply while the demo's opening turn ends):

the right words, then moved away from the finger
A drag made after the turn has ended moves nothing (0 px), so the drag start grows nothing. The movement is the turn ending under the selection: the Working line leaves (the transcript shrinks by 34 to 44 px), an earlier reply gets its last words, and the chat, following its end, moves with it. Holding the follows back is not enough, because the browser itself pulls the view up when a transcript at its end gets shorter (scrollTop is clamped). With the follows held and nothing else changed, the reply moved 95 px.
ChatTimeline now holds a selection in progress, for a reader following the end:
What holds. A left-mouse press in the transcript (a drag selection starts with the press, before any selection exists), or a selection standing in its rows (a phone's long press and its handles leave one). It holds the words themselves, not their row: a point at the press (caretRangeFromPoint, or caretPositionFromPoint in Firefox) or at the selection's start. A work block folding above the words inside the same row moves them while the row's top stays put. The held words stay held while the selection still takes them in, even when a drag is carried up into the rows above them. A selection in the footer (a sent message waiting) is held too.
Nothing follows under it. The measured-row follow, the grown-footer follow and ChatView's end follows (new state, a resized view, faces arriving, a short landing) all wait.
The layout's moves are scrolled back before they are painted, in the layout effect after each commit, after the list's measurements, and in resize observers. Room is kept past the end (an inline min-height), so the browser cannot clamp the view up. The list's own inline min-height is given back when the hold ends.
A scroll of the view itself stands: the reader's wheel, keys or scrollbar, a drag carried past the chat's edge, Jump to latest, a scripted scroll. Between two looks, moved + scrolled is how far the words moved within the transcript; only that, the layout's part, is put back. The exceptions are the browser's clamp on a shorter transcript and LegendList's one-frame padded adjust (listEndPadded): their scroll is the layout's own, and the words' whole move is put back. A reader away from the end is left to the list, which already holds the rows they read (maintainVisibleContentPosition).
Let go (the button is released, even outside the window, or the selection goes), the room goes, and a reader still following is put at the end.
A selection left standing after the release (the Quote / Comment offer is on it) keeps the hold until it goes: the words the offer quotes stay where they are. This follows the Claude and ChatGPT apps, where selecting in a streaming answer stops the view from following the end and nothing jumps under the selection.
Validation
scripts/chat-selection-turn-end-demo-regression.ts (new, in the browser lane). It has five cases: a bare press and a partway drag at 1280, and a standing touch selection at 390, all in a later reply; plus desktop-1280-fold and phone-390-fold, with words the ending turn wrote below its work block, which folds in the same row. It reads the words' own position in every painted frame: in each animation frame, and again in a ResizeObserver made after the app's, so a fold step the app corrects before the paint is read as painted. It allows under 1 px, since the view scrolls in whole pixels. On this PR's first head (83a9a39, row anchor) desktop-1280-fold fails (572.8 → 460.8 px); on main the first case fails (444.8 → 478.8 px). It holds the demo transport's turn-end timer until the selection has started, then ends the turn. It watches the reply's top in every frame: a bare mouse press and a drag partway at 1280, and a standing touch selection at 390. The reply must not move, the drag must take exactly its words, and the chat must be back at its end, with the list's own min-height, once the selection goes. On main it fails (405 → 439 px). With this fix it passes 3/3, and with the press hold taken out its press case fails, so it guards both holds.
The probe measurements in the table above, after the fix: 0 px at 1280 (mouse) and 390 (touch), the right words selected, and back at the end (gap 0) once the selection is cleared.
Adjacent browser checks on the final code: chat-virtual-browser-qa.ts, chat-select-quote-demo-regression.ts, reply-comments-demo-regression.ts, chat-local-send-follow-demo-regression.ts, chat-quote-selection-end-regression.ts, chat-history-browser-qa.ts, chat-no-rewind-demo-regression.ts, chat-working-line-demo-regression.ts all pass. chat-virtual-browser-qa.ts caught two earlier versions of this change, and both are fixed. In one, a scroll the chat did not make was undone under a standing selection. In the other, the hold moved a reader away from the end a second time, on top of the list's own hold.
bun run check fast (through dori heavy): workflow syntax, generated types and themes, typecheck, build and unit tests all ok.
CodeRabbit's two threads: the MAJOR (a fold inside the row) is fixed with the words anchor; the MINOR (a footer selection) is held. Codex (gpt-6.1-terra, xhigh) re-reviewed that delta three times. Its findings are fixed: input-timed reader detection replaced by the geometry rule, a lost anchor re-made, sub-pixel moves kept until they add up, and the Firefox caret API. Declined as notes: a reader step landing in the same frame as the list's padded adjust or a clamp (geometry can't tell them apart, and the cost is one frame), and more test paths. While fixing, chat-virtual-browser-qa.ts caught input-timed detection undoing a scripted scroll, and the new phone fold case caught LegendList's adjust frame being taken for a view scroll. Both are fixed.
Reviewed by Codex (gpt-6.1-terra, xhigh) before that, three rounds. Round 1 found 4 MAJOR and 1 MINOR: a press released outside the window stuck, the anchor was not re-picked for a new drag, an unheard reader scroll could be undone, a correction was read as the reader leaving the end, and the test could not catch a lost press hold. All five are fixed. Round 2 found an upward selection re-anchoring on release, now fixed. It also noted that a browser clamp cannot be told apart from an unheard Jump to latest in the same frame. That one is declined: the reader stays following and goes to the end once the selection goes. Round 3: APPROVE, with one MINOR asking for more test cases. It is declined, because the demo cannot make an upward cross-row case fail, and the away reader is covered by chat-virtual-browser-qa.ts's sliding-page step.
Not run: bun run check full, and the Mac and Windows lanes. No server, shared or install code changed.
A drag selection in a reply moved, and ended on other words, when the
agent's turn ended under it: the Working line left, an earlier reply
grew, and the chat followed its end while the browser clamped the view.
ChatTimeline now holds the row a press or a selection is in, for a
reader following the end: nothing follows, the layout's moves are
scrolled back before they paint, with room past the end, and the chat
goes back to its end once the selection goes.
Chat no longer jumps to the latest reply while you’re selecting text, even if an agent turn ends during the selection. The selected words remain highlighted and the conversation stays in place. When you finish selecting, chat resumes following the conversation and returns to the end if you were following it.
Chat selection now holds the selected transcript row in place while an agent turn ends. After selection ends, normal end-following resumes. A browser regression covers desktop and mobile selection scenarios.

Summary
Track selection and preserve the timeline anchor src/components/ChatView.tsx, src/components/ChatTimeline.tsx
ChatView suppresses end-follow corrections during selection and passes selection state to ChatTimeline. ChatTimeline tracks selected rows, anchors a row during layout changes, and resumes end-following when selection ends.
Exercise selection across turn end scripts/chat-selection-turn-end-demo-regression.ts, scripts/ci-browser.sh, docs/development.md, changelog.d/chat-selection-holds-still.md
The browser regression checks desktop press and drag, mobile selection, stable reply position, selected words, and post-selection scroll position. The browser lane runs the regression, and the development guide and changelog document it.
Selected answer text can still move under a drag when its work block folds. Correct the anchor behavior before merging so the selection hold protects the words being selected.

Explanation
The title "fix(chat): hold the chat still while a selection is in progress (#2650)" names the main change. The changeset adds a selecting hold in ChatTimeline and ChatView that keeps the reply still during text selection while the agent turn ends. The title is specific and follows a conventional commit form. The issue number suffix is acceptable.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
[#2650] Objective: a drag selection in a chat reply must not move under the pointer when the agent's turn ends mid-drag. Implementation at head: ChatTimeline.tsx adds a left-mouse press hold (pointerdown capture, pressing ref) and a standing-selection hold (selectedKeys, selectionchange). While held, hold() sets selecting, records an anchor row (anchor, rowTop), and keep() scrolls back layout moves in a useLayoutEffect after each commit, after the list's measurements (keepMeasured), and in a ResizeObserver. It also reserves room via inline min-height so the browser cannot clamp the view. Release (pointerup, pointercancel, blur, or a move with no button) clears the hold, restores the list's min-height, and calls followMeasured(), which puts a still-following reader at the end. ChatView.tsx gates its end-follow effects (layout effects, resize follow, scroll correction) on selecting.current. This matches the issue's suggested approach: hold follow during a mouse selection drag and catch up when it ends. Automated test: scripts/chat-selection-turn-end-demo-regression.ts (new) holds the demo turn-end timer, ends the turn during a mouse press, a partway drag, and a standing touch selection at 390px, checks the reply's top every frame, checks the selected text equals the target words, and checks gap 0 and the restored min-height after release. The test code asserts the stated behavior. I did not execute the browser test. Test results are taken from the PR description. The standing-selection hold goes beyond a drag, but it covers the same in-progress selection case the issue describes (a touch selection stays put while the turn ends).
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
All changed files connect to #2650. (1) src/components/ChatTimeline.tsx: the selection hold, its props (selecting), and the move of the footer ResizeObserver (footerRef) are required to coordinate the hold with the grown-footer follow. The move is a relocation within the same file and does not change footer behavior when no selection is active. (2) src/components/ChatView.tsx: adds the selecting ref and gates the existing end-follow paths on it. This is the direct mechanism the issue names (ChatView intends the turn end to move nothing selected). (3) scripts/chat-selection-turn-end-demo-regression.ts, scripts/ci-browser.sh, and docs/development.md: test and documentation wiring for the new regression. These are supporting changes for the objective. (4) changelog.d/chat-selection-holds-still.md: a changelog entry for the user-visible change. No unrelated feature, server, shared, or install code changed, per the PR description and the diffs reviewed.

Hold the chat during a touch press, before the selection stands.
ChatTimeline holds the chat only for mouse presses. A phone long press selects text after a delay. If the turn ends during that delay, the chat follows the end and moves the words under the finger. The phone regression adds its range before ending the turn, so it does not cover this window. Hold touch presses too, and cover a touch long press in the regression.

lines 157 - 159:
Update ChatTimeline to hold the chat during touch presses as well as mouse
presses, keeping it held through the delay before text selection appears. Extend
the phone regression around endTurn to simulate a touch long press and end the
turn before adding the selection range, so it covers this timing window.

A work block folding at a turn's end moves the words below it inside
the same row while the row's top stays put, so the hold now anchors on
the words: a point at the press or at the selection's start. Between
two looks, only the layout's part of their move is put back (how far
they moved within the transcript); a scroll of the view itself stands,
except the browser's clamp and the list's padded adjust frame. A
selection in the footer is held too. The regression gains fold cases
and reads painted frames.
Merge-pass review: read the whole diff (src/components/ChatTimeline.tsx, ChatView.tsx, a new browser script, one added run_script line in scripts/ci-browser.sh, docs, changelog). While a selection is in progress in the chat (a left-mouse press held, or a selection standing in its rows, e.g. a phone's long press), the follow-the-end scroll holds still, so the words being selected don't move when a turn ends (#1922, #2650); a reader still following is put at the end once it is let go. A press released outside the window ends on the next button-less move or a window blur. The footer follow (footerRef) only moved within the file. The new script scripts/chat-selection-turn-end-demo-regression.ts holds the demo's turn-end timer until the test ends the turn (a controlled clock, no fixed sleep) and covers a desktop press, a desktop drag and a 390-px phone. Codex Terra approved after three rounds (its 6 findings fixed; two declined with reasons in the PR). bun run check fast and 9 chat browser scripts pass locally. No server/, shared/, HTTP/WS contract or workflow change. Fixes #2650.
CodeRabbit's two threads were fixed in 36294a4: the hold now anchors on the selected words themselves, not their row (reproduced first: a turn's words after its folding work block moved 572.8 -> 460.8 px under a press while the row's top stayed put; the regression now covers it), and a selection in the transcript footer is held too. Codex Terra re-reviewed the delta.

## Change
`scripts/chat-selection-turn-end-demo-regression.ts` (#2658) failed
intermittently in "Browser regression (other scripts)" on PRs that do
not touch chat, e.g. #2621 run 41725988136: `desktop-1280-fold`, one
frame at 533.3 px against 572.8. It is not the test: the selection hold
from #2658 loses the words under the selection when frames are slow.
Instrumenting every frame (rAF, every ResizeObserver callback, every
`scrollTop` set and `scrollBy`, the scroll events) on a slow machine
showed three races, all in the hold:
1. **A fold in the held words' own row was painted uncorrected for a
frame.** LegendList puts a row's shrink of more than 1 px off to the
next animation frame (`scheduleWebShrinkMeasurement`), so when the
ending turn's work block folds above the words in the same row, no
observer the hold listens to fires in that frame. On a slow frame the
slide moves 40-50 px at once, and that frame is painted with the words
moved. The hold now also watches the held words' own row
(`[data-chat-row]`) with the chat's resize observer, which the chat made
when it mounted, so the move is put back in the frame it happens, before
the paint.
2. **The hold's own correction made the chat think the reader left the
end.** `keep()` set a fractional `scrollTop` (253.5625), reported the
read-back (254) through `onFollowed`, and the scroll event then read
253: a 1 px move up with no input, which `ChatView.onScroll` took for
the reader leaving the end. `following` went false, `keep()` stopped
holding, and the rest of the fold drifted the words 10-27 px. `keep()`
now scrolls in whole pixels, and keeps the words' aimed place as its
reference instead of re-reading it, so the rounding adds up with the
next move instead of drifting by a pixel.
3. **The list and the browser move the view up after the hold, with no
input.** A frame later LegendList measures the same fold and its MVCP
`scrollBy`s again (−24, −36 px), and the browser trims the view as the
transcript shrinks. `ChatView.onScroll` now takes a move up without the
reader's input as the layout's while a selection holds the view (the
reader's wheel, keys, touch and scrollbar still count as leaving), and
the hold hears the list's adjust (`listen("scrollAdjust")`) and puts the
words' whole move back, as it already did for the list's padded frame
(`listEndPadded`).
`scrollAdjust` is a signal LegendList's `listen` already delivers, but
its public `LegendListListenerType` leaves it out; the existing
`patches/@LegendApp%2Flist@3.3.5.patch` gains a one-line `react.d.ts`
hunk adding it (no runtime change, `bun.lock` unchanged; checked with a
clean install from an empty cache).
The test: readings are compared unrounded. Rounding each to 0.1 px first
made a 0.96 px step (inside the hold's own sub-pixel rule, put back the
next frame) read as exactly 1 px and fail `< 1`. And a new case,
`desktop-1280-fold-reduced-motion`: with reduced motion the block folds
in one frame, which is what one slow frame of the slide does, so it
fails on main every time instead of only on a slow runner (on main the
words move to 608.8 and then 460.8 px; reduced-motion users saw that).
Review round (1db6fa9): only a move up of at most one pixel without
input is excused while a selection stands (the browser's whole-pixel
trim), only a move of at most a pixel landing within a pixel above where
the chat itself last put the view (a4e9fa8, 8181b42), so a reader who
scrolls up with no input the page sees, in large steps or a pixel at a
time, is still away from the end once the selection goes; the script
gains `desktop-1280-reader-away` for it (fails 3/3 on c9901b9), and
watches each fold until it has slid shut. Details in the review comment.
No changelog fragment: `changelog.d/chat-selection-holds-still.md` from
#2658 is still unreleased, and this makes it true.
## Validation
Before/after on this PC (load average 36-98 from other lanes and CI
runners), the demo build as CI builds it (`bun scripts/demo-build.ts`),
through `dori heavy`:
| | origin/main 4bc043d | this PR |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `chat-selection-turn-end-demo-regression.ts`, whole script | 0/20 pass
(old script); 0/5 with the new script, the reduced-motion case failing
every time it is reached | 24/24 pass, 6 in parallel |
| `desktop-1280-fold` only, looped (instrumented copy) | fails within
the first 3 iterations | 150/150 (6 × 25 in parallel) |
| `phone-390-fold` only, looped | | 25/25 |
| `desktop-1280-fold` with reduced motion, looped | 0/5 | 10/10 |
Intermediate states, for the record: with only the row watch (1), 18/20
whole-script runs passed and the remaining failures were the drift of
(2) and (3); with (1) and (2) but no list-adjust signal, transitions
passed 150/150 but reduced motion still failed.
- `bun run check fast` (through `dori heavy`) on c9901b9 and again on
1db6fa9: workflow syntax, generated types and themes, typecheck, build,
unit tests (10883 pass) all ok.
- On 1db6fa9, under the same load: whole script (then 7 cases) 24/24;
`desktop-1280-fold` looped 150/150, `phone-390-fold` 25/25, reduced
motion 10/10.
- On a4e9fa8 (last review round: only a landing a pixel above where the
chat last put the view is excused), whole script (10 cases: reader-away
in 30 px steps, 1 px steps, 1 px after growth below, and down-then-up)
24/24; the same loops 150/150, 25/25, 10/10; the 11 adjacent scripts
pass; `check fast` ok. Each new reader-away case fails on the commit
before its fix (1db6fa9, c358899, f37fab8). On the merged head
0830c48: `check fast` ok (10894 unit tests), whole script 6/6. On
8181b42 (the event's own move must be a pixel at most too; new 151 px
case, which fails 2/2 on 0830c48): whole script (11 cases) 6/6, `check
fast` ok.
- Adjacent browser scripts on the final build, all pass:
`chat-virtual-browser-qa.ts`, `chat-history-browser-qa.ts`,
`chat-local-send-follow-demo-regression.ts`,
`chat-quote-selection-end-regression.ts`,
`chat-scroll-padding-regression.ts`,
`chat-select-quote-demo-regression.ts`,
`chat-selection-copy-regression.ts`,
`chat-working-line-demo-regression.ts`,
`chat-no-rewind-demo-regression.ts`,
`reply-comments-demo-regression.ts`, `chat-gjc-streaming-browser-qa.ts`.
- `chat-browser-qa.ts` could not run here: it times out waiting for
`.conn-live` on this PC, the same on origin/main (no live connection in
this environment); CI runs it.
- `chat-virtual-browser-qa.ts`'s failure on #2644 (`continuous content
left the reader behind for 6 consecutive animation frames`, line 717) is
a different cause: it is about following streamed content, and that run
(2026-11-03 08:03 UTC) predates #2658. Not addressed here.
- Not run: `bun run check full`, the Mac and Windows lanes. No server,
shared or install code changed.

* fix(qa): open the folded work run before claude-image clicks a row
A work block's calls fold into a run line, so the row the check clicks is not drawn until the run is opened (the same step #44 added to the other image checks).
* fix(qa): hide-pc waits for motion that ends, not an agent's wave
An agent friend's wave never ends, so waiting for every animation to stop timed out. A looping animation is no motion to wait for.
* fix(qa): terminal-autoswitch reads the lens the header shows
The header's lens button flips the lens with one tap (#49) and shows the one it goes to, so a peek's header shows the grid, and one tap on it ends the peek. The check no longer expects Chat pressed, and the second way of keeping the terminal is the same tap as the first.
* fix(qa): workspace-rows reads the tab strip's row surface
The strip's background is on .tab-strip-row now; .tab-strip itself is transparent.
* fix(qa): pane-mute fixture's roster tells each pane's last status
A roster carries each pane's status as the server's does, so a page that takes a roster again (a stream reopened as the tab is shown) finds the panes as the frames left them, instead of the demo's first statuses.
* fix(chat): keep the words under a selection held through a slow fold (devswha#2684)
## Change
`scripts/chat-selection-turn-end-demo-regression.ts` (devswha#2658) failed
intermittently in "Browser regression (other scripts)" on PRs that do
not touch chat, e.g. devswha#2621 run 41725988136: `desktop-1280-fold`, one

from devswha#2658 loses the words under the selection when frames are slow.
Instrumenting every frame (rAF, every ResizeObserver callback, every
`scrollTop` set and `scrollBy`, the scroll events) on a slow machine
showed three races, all in the hold:
1. **A fold in the held words' own row was painted uncorrected for a

2. **The hold's own correction made the chat think the reader left the

next move instead of drifting by a pixel.
3. **The list and the browser move the view up after the hold, with no

`scrollAdjust` is a signal LegendList's `listen` already delivers, but
its public `LegendListListenerType` leaves it out; the existing

trim), only a move of at most a pixel landing within a pixel above where
the chat itself last put the view (a4e9fa8, 8181b42), so a reader who
scrolls up with no input the page sees, in large steps or a pixel at a
time, is still away from the end once the selection goes; the script
gains `desktop-1280-reader-away` for it (fails 3/3 on c9901b9), and
watches each fold until it has slid shut. Details in the review comment.
No changelog fragment: `changelog.d/chat-selection-holds-still.md` from
devswha#2658 is still unreleased, and this makes it true.
- On 1db6fa9, under the same load: whole script (then 7 cases) 24/24;
`desktop-1280-fold` looped 150/150, `phone-390-fold` 25/25, reduced
motion 10/10.
- On a4e9fa8 (last review round: only a landing a pixel above where the
chat last put the view is excused), whole script (10 cases: reader-away
in 30 px steps, 1 px steps, 1 px after growth below, and down-then-up)
24/24; the same loops 150/150, 25/25, 10/10; the 11 adjacent scripts
pass; `check fast` ok. Each new reader-away case fails on the commit
before its fix (1db6fa9, c358899, f37fab8). On the merged head
0830c48: `check fast` ok (10894 unit tests), whole script 6/6. On
8181b42 (the event's own move must be a pixel at most too; new 151 px
case, which fails 2/2 on 0830c48): whole script (11 cases) 6/6, `check
fast` ok.
- Adjacent browser scripts on the final build, all pass:
`chat-virtual-browser-qa.ts`, `chat-history-browser-qa.ts`,
`chat-local-send-follow-demo-regression.ts`,
`chat-quote-selection-end-regression.ts`,
`chat-scroll-padding-regression.ts`,
`chat-select-quote-demo-regression.ts`,
`chat-selection-copy-regression.ts`,
`chat-working-line-demo-regression.ts`,
`chat-no-rewind-demo-regression.ts`,
`reply-comments-demo-regression.ts`, `chat-gjc-streaming-browser-qa.ts`.
- `chat-browser-qa.ts` could not run here: it times out waiting for
`.conn-live` on this PC, the same on origin/main (no live connection in
this environment); CI runs it.
- `chat-virtual-browser-qa.ts`'s failure on devswha#2644 (`continuous content
left the reader behind for 6 consecutive animation frames`, line 717) is
a different cause: it is about following streamed content, and that run
(2026-11-03 08:03 UTC) predates devswha#2658. Not addressed here.
- Not run: `bun run check full`, the Mac and Windows lanes. No server,
shared or install code changed.

* fix(qa): pane-mute waits for the sheet's focus and ignores a cancelled animation
CI runs the script with UI_EVIDENCE_DIR set, which adds the captures. In
them the phone's keyboard walk pressed ArrowDown before the opening sheet
had taken focus, so the arrows landed on the toggle behind it and the
focus ended on the sheet's first item: the check now waits for focus to be
inside the sheet first, as the desktop branch does for the menu.
capture() also awaited animation.finished bare, which rejects with an
AbortError when an animation is cancelled; the other settle helpers catch
that, and so does this one now.

Fixes #2650
Change
A reader who drags to select words in a chat reply while the agent's turn ends saw the words move under the mouse, and the selection ended on other words. #1922 meant a selection in progress never to move what is under it. On main (59e51d0, the demo build, a 60-step drag in the newest reply while the demo's opening turn ends):
"\nAdd a revision column to notes and "instead ofbackfill it from updated_atA drag made after the turn has ended moves nothing (0 px), so the drag start grows nothing.
ChatTimelinenow holds a selection in progress, for a reader following the end:caretRangeFromPoint, orcaretPositionFromPointin Firefox) or at the selection's start. A work block folding above the words inside the same row moves them while the row's top stays put. The held words stay held while the selection still takes them in, even when a drag is carried up into the rows above them. A selection in the footer (a sent message waiting) is held too.min-height), so the browser cannot clamp the view up. The list's own inlinemin-heightis given back when the hold ends.moved + scrolledis how far the words moved within the transcript; only that, the layout's part, is put back. The exceptions are the browser's clamp on a shorter transcript and LegendList's one-frame padded adjust (listEndPadded): their scroll is the layout's own, and the words' whole move is put back. A reader away from the end is left to the list, which already holds the rows they read (maintainVisibleContentPosition).A selection left standing after the release (the Quote / Comment offer is on it) keeps the hold until it goes: the words the offer quotes stay where they are. This follows the Claude and ChatGPT apps, where selecting in a streaming answer stops the view from following the end and nothing jumps under the selection.
Validation
scripts/chat-selection-turn-end-demo-regression.ts(new, in the browser lane). It has five cases: a bare press and a partway drag at 1280, and a standing touch selection at 390, all in a later reply; plusdesktop-1280-foldandphone-390-fold, with words the ending turn wrote below its work block, which folds in the same row. It reads the words' own position in every painted frame: in each animation frame, and again in a ResizeObserver made after the app's, so a fold step the app corrects before the paint is read as painted. It allows under 1 px, since the view scrolls in whole pixels. On this PR's first head (83a9a39, row anchor)desktop-1280-foldfails (572.8 → 460.8 px); on main the first case fails (444.8 → 478.8 px). It holds the demo transport's turn-end timer until the selection has started, then ends the turn. It watches the reply's top in every frame: a bare mouse press and a drag partway at 1280, and a standing touch selection at 390. The reply must not move, the drag must take exactly its words, and the chat must be back at its end, with the list's ownmin-height, once the selection goes. On main it fails (405 → 439 px). With this fix it passes 3/3, and with the press hold taken out its press case fails, so it guards both holds.chat-virtual-browser-qa.ts,chat-select-quote-demo-regression.ts,reply-comments-demo-regression.ts,chat-local-send-follow-demo-regression.ts,chat-quote-selection-end-regression.ts,chat-history-browser-qa.ts,chat-no-rewind-demo-regression.ts,chat-working-line-demo-regression.tsall pass.chat-virtual-browser-qa.tscaught two earlier versions of this change, and both are fixed. In one, a scroll the chat did not make was undone under a standing selection. In the other, the hold moved a reader away from the end a second time, on top of the list's own hold.bun run check fast(throughdori heavy): workflow syntax, generated types and themes, typecheck, build and unit tests all ok.chat-virtual-browser-qa.tscaught input-timed detection undoing a scripted scroll, and the new phone fold case caught LegendList's adjust frame being taken for a view scroll. Both are fixed.chat-virtual-browser-qa.ts's sliding-page step.bun run check full, and the Mac and Windows lanes. No server, shared or install code changed.
