Fixes #1202. Reported by @chobijaeyu.

What was wrong

@eko24ive/pi-ask draws its ask_user form through ctx.ui.custom(), which no dialog reader recognizes, so the chat showed only > ask_user and the question had to be answered in the terminal. pi-ask also says not to drive it with keystrokes (its docs/remote-events.md: "Do not use terminal keystroke automation"). Its supported answer channel is pi.events inside the pi process: @eko24ive/pi-ask:started, completed, submit and submit-result.

What changes

An opt-in pi extension, the same way as the GJC integration. Ovis never adds or changes pi's hooks, settings or extensions on its own.

  • The user installs it himself with bun scripts/install-pi-integration.ts.
  • The installer writes only its own banner-owned file, <pi agent dir>/extensions/herdr-web-ui.js. It refuses to replace a file it did not write or a symlink.
  • --remove takes it out again.
  • Without the extension, the form stays in Terminal exactly as on main.
  • The installer reuses the GJC installer's code (installExtensionFile and buildIntegration were split out of scripts/install-gjc-integration.ts, with no behaviour change). Its tests mirror the GJC installer's tests.

integrations/pi-ask.ts, the extension.

  • It tracks the forms pi-ask reports open and serves them on a unix socket, <agent dir>/herdr-web-ui-ask/<pid>.sock. The socket is 0600 in a 0700 directory and is removed on shutdown. There is no socket on Windows, or when pi runs without a UI.
  • POST /v1/submit hands the answer to pi-ask as its own submit event. In the same turn as that emit, it checks that the form's createdAt and the session file are still the ones the card was read from, so an answer never reaches a form pi-ask reopened for the same call. It returns pi-ask's submit-result and gives up after 3 s with timeout.
  • A form that pi-ask says is gone (flow_not_found) is dropped. pi-ask disposes some forms without a completed event.
  • GET /v1/state also reports the ask_user calls pi-ask still waits on, read from pi's live branch (sessionManager.getBranch()) with pi-ask's own rule. A /tree move changes that branch without writing to the session file, so the file alone cannot say.

server/pi-ask-bridge.ts, the card. A card shows only when every one of these holds:

  • exactly one of the pane's foreground pids has a socket;
  • the socket and its directory belong to this user, and the directory has no group or other permissions;
  • the socket answers for that pid;
  • it reports the session file herdr reports for the pane;
  • exactly one form is open whose ask_user call is still open on pi's live branch, by pi-ask's own rule (src/pending-ask.ts), as the extension reports it.

Anything else means no card. The last step binds the card again from the pane before it submits: the session herdr reports, the socket, the very same form, and a fresh read of the pane's foreground right before the answer leaves. A pi pushed into the background still answers on its socket, so that last read is what refuses it. Answers are kept in prototype-free maps, so a question id like __proto__ keeps its answer. The card asks one question per step and keeps the earlier answers on the server until the last step. Then it sends all of them to pi-ask by question id and option value, never by keys. A multi-select step sends its checks and its typed text together. Every question can be skipped, because pi-ask treats required as advisory. Back keeps what was typed.

Decision: no generic card of guessed keys on a pi pane. Each review round found another window between a check and a key send. The last one: herdr's foreground switched to another pi with a pi-ask form open while the check read the first pi's extension. A full guarantee would need herdr to tie key delivery to the foreground. So Ovis never offers the generic Enter/Esc card on a pi pane. An OmO pane, which herdr labels pi while OmO waits, is told apart by its process tree (paneRunsOmo) and keeps the card other agents get. A blocked pi pane whose screen no reader knows shows no card, and the terminal stays one click away (fail closed). pi's own parsed dialogs keep their cards. The pi-ask card answers only through the extension's submit, with its own revalidation.

server/prompt.ts.

  • A bound form becomes this card (pi-ask-user responder).
  • Decision 2: no key-driven card where the extension serves the pane's pi. The same principle applies to pi's own dialogs (select, confirm, input, rpiv tab arrows). Where the pi-ask extension's socket answers for the pane's pi, or cannot be read, a pi-ask form can open in that same pi between any check and the key that follows it. So that pane gets no key-driven card at all, and the terminal answers those dialogs. The check runs at the read, before every key, and before each rpiv navigation key. Without the extension, pi's own dialogs keep their cards exactly as on main. Whether one is open is three-state (piAskActivity): the pane's own foreground pi is asked through its agent directory (taken from its environment, whatever its session store, so no session needs to be written yet). Only an answer from the extension that no form is open lets keys through. With no extension to ask, the session file decides; the extension's live answer outranks the file, which a /tree move can leave behind. An unreadable process list, a socket that is not this user's alone, a read that fails or answers for another pid, and two candidate sockets where either has a form all hold the keys back. Without the extension, an open ask_user call in the session does the same. The check runs after the screen read for every key-driven pi card (the generic card and pi's own dialogs alike, so no card is offered whose answer would be refused), and again right before every key of a key-driven answer into a pi pane (pi's own dialogs, the rpiv card's navigation), so a form that opens in between gets none of them. Its buttons would send Enter/Esc keystrokes, which pi-ask forbids, so the terminal answers instead. This is the one change from main for a pane without the extension: a blocked pi pane with an open pi-ask form used to get the generic fallback card, and now stays in Terminal.

Protocol. Two optional InteractivePrompt fields:

  • checks_with_text: the client reads it through sendsChecksWithText to send a multi-select's checks and text together.
  • drafts_saved: moving between steps saves the step's unsent edits, so blocksStepNavigation does not hold a step button back.

Every step the server lets the card reach carries can_navigate, so a saved later question stays one click away from the first one. OpenCode's native form keeps working with any server. PromptAnswer is unchanged. The card is Ovis's existing multi-step question card (as for OpenCode's native form and omp), so there is no new UI.

Docs: a pi-ask section after the GJC one in docs/guide.md. Changelog: changelog.d/pi-ask-user-card.md.

Real CLI fixture and QA

server/fixtures/pi-ask-user-1.2.0-bridge.json was recorded on Linux from pi 1.4.0 + pi-ask 1.2.0 with the extension installed by the installer. It holds:

  • pi-ask's own started, submit-result and completed events;
  • the bridge's state;
  • a refused and an accepted submit;
  • the session file after the answer;
  • the pane's screen.

On the isolated ovis-test herdr session, with real pi and a real Ovis server:

  • GET /api/pane/prompt returned the card.
  • In Chrome at 390 px and 1440 px, I answered three steps from the card: a single choice, checks plus typed text, and a skipped question. pi-ask returned ok: true and wrote ask:pending-dismissed, and the card went away.

Tests

  • server/dialogs/pi-ask-user-route.test.ts drives the route against a fake bridge socket that serves the recorded form. On main the card test gets the fallback card and a 404 (it fails), and it passes now. It covers:
    • step-by-step answers that reach pi-ask exactly as the recorded accepted submit;
    • refusal when the card is stale, an index is out of range, or pi-ask turns the answer down;
    • a form reopened for the same call;
    • skip, Back and forward;
    • pi's live branch after a /tree move that writes nothing;
    • no generic card for an open form that is no card (/answer, another session), while blocked;
    • an answer refused when the pane's foreground changes during the last step;
    • question ids __proto__ and constructor;
    • a typed composer answer keeping the saved checks;
    • a disposed form, or one with no call, that is not hidden;
    • no fallback keys without the extension;
    • fail-closed cases: no extension, another session file, another pid, two open forms, a settled call, no tool call, and a socket directory that others can enter.
  • integrations/pi-ask.test.ts uses a real unix socket in a temp directory. It checks the socket and directory modes, that started and completed are tracked, the submit relay and refusal, the incarnation and session checks, eviction on flow_not_found, the timeout, no socket without a UI or on Windows, and removal on shutdown.
  • scripts/install-pi-integration.test.ts mirrors install-gjc-integration.test.ts.
  • src/lib/promptAnswer.test.ts covers sendsChecksWithText.

The race, fallback-guard and client-predicate tests were each checked to fail with their fix removed. bun run check fast passes: typecheck, build, and 8022 unit tests with 0 failures (on 37ebf2b2).

Review

  • omo-native-code-reviewer: round 1 blocked on one HIGH (a multi-select dropped the checks or the text). That and its MEDIUMs (disposed forms, socket ownership, test fidelity) are fixed. Round 2 approves.

  • Codex Sol 6.1 Fast xhigh: round 1 found two HIGHs (a form reopened under the same flowId, the multi-select drop) and five MEDIUMs (disposed forms, Back with typed text, invented required answers, a file: URL agent directory, fallback keys while blocked). All are fixed and covered by the tests above.
    Round 2 found one HIGH and three MEDIUMs:

    • An open call has to be read on pi's active /tree branch, as pi-ask reads it. It is now read there through server/pi-tree.ts.
    • A typed answer from the composer dropped the checks the card showed as saved. It now keeps them.
    • A dropped /answer form vetoed the live card. It no longer does.
    • The fourth is declined below.

    Each fix has a test that fails without it. The last round, on 7491b9af, found nothing new: PASS.

  • Merge pass (on 7491b9af): Codex blocked on two HIGHs and one MEDIUM:

    • a pi-ask form with no card could still get the Enter/Esc fallback card (an /answer form, or a /tree move that writes nothing);
    • the last step did not re-read the pane's foreground before submitting;
    • __proto__ question ids.

    omo added two MEDIUMs (prototype-named ids, and no forward step button after Back) and one LOW (fixture envelopes). All are fixed in df425776, with the fixture re-recorded from real pi. Each new test fails on 07182acc, and removing either HIGH guard fails its own test. The Codex re-review of the delta passed.

  • Merge pass, round 2 (on a30a10d2): omo found one HIGH. Before pi writes its first answer, the session file does not exist yet, and the extension was never asked in that state, so a blocked pane with an /answer form open still got the Enter/Esc card. Fixed in d1233858: whether a form is open is now asked of the pane's own foreground pi through its agent directory (piPaneAgentDirs, piAskActiveInPane), with no session needed, and a socket of that pi that does not answer counts as open. The route regression records herdr's send_keys, fails on a30a10d2, and passes now. omo approves; it found four LOWs, none blocking.

  • Merge pass, round 3 (on a30a10d2): Codex reproduced three more ways keys could reach an open /answer form:

    • a pi run with --session-dir was not asked;
    • two foreground sockets, or a failed read, counted as no form;
    • a form opening between the read and the keys.

    All three are fixed in 5b75fbd6 (above). Each has a route or unit test that fails on a30a10d2, and removing any of the four guards fails its own test.

  • Round 3 review: omo approves all four fixes and found one MEDIUM: pi's own dialogs were still offered as cards the key path would refuse. Codex found one MEDIUM: a call a /tree move left in the session file refused pi's own dialogs even when the extension said no form was open. Both are fixed in d40826b6 and c35a7d9c, each with a test that fails without its fix.

  • Round 3 confirmations: omo, and Codex's last round, found that a pi-ask which sends no started event (before 1.1.0, which added remote events) left the extension listing no forms while a call was still open on pi's live branch. Fixed in e23fbc6a: an open call on the live branch counts as an open form, and when pi cannot say which calls are open, the session file decides. omo verified it with its reproduction (no card, no keys).

  • Final round (on e23fbc6a): a second reviewer reproduced the foreground swap above. Fixed in 364e7205 by the decision, plus a re-read of the pane's foreground after the extension's answer (a change counts as unknown). The swap case is a regression test that records herdr's send_keys and fails on e23fbc6a. Tests that expected a generic card on a pi pane (two rpiv tests, the pi entries of one prompt.test.ts case) now expect none; other agents' generic cards are unchanged. omo and Codex both found that OmO panes (labelled pi by herdr) lost their generic card too. Fixed in ec2a5392, with a test that fails without it; omo approves ec2a5392.

  • Final round (on ec2a5392): a reviewer reproduced pi A's own dialog with its extension answering "no form", then an /answer form opening in the same pi A during the last check, and Enter sent into the form. Per decision 2 above, fixed in 626f1099. omo approves it, and Codex found nothing new. The reviewer's case is a regression test that fails on ec2a5392, and this PR's session-file check for pi's own dialogs is gone.

Follow-up

  • Pre-existing, not changed here: without the extension, Ovis answers pi's own dialogs by keys as on main. A pi-ask form that opens in that pi between the read and the key could take them. Only the extension (or herdr tying key delivery to the screen) can tell.

Known limits

  • A browser tab opened before this update does not know checks_with_text. On a multi-select step it sends the checks or the typed text, as it does for every other multi-select card, where it labels the field "Or type your own answer". Its Send keeps the saved checks, and a reload fixes the rest (Codex round 2 MEDIUM, declined as a known limit).
  • A blocked pi pane whose prompt no reader knows (not pi-ask's form, not one of pi's own dialogs) has no card: answer it in Terminal.
  • Without the extension, the fallback veto reads the session file's last-written branch, as main reads it. A /tree move that writes nothing is seen only through the extension.
  • Where the extension serves the pane's pi, pi's own dialogs (select, confirm, input) have no card: answer them in Terminal.
  • On macOS, where a process's environment cannot be read, a pi with a custom PI_CODING_AGENT_DIR is looked for only in the default agent directory, for the card and for the key check alike.
  • A pi killed without cleanup leaves its socket behind. If a later process in that pane reuses its pid, the fallback card stays hidden there (it errs toward Terminal; omo LOW).
  • Notes, Elaborate, and forms opened by /answer or /ask:replay (no tool call) stay in Terminal.
  • Windows uses Terminal (no unix socket).

This PR changes an HTTP contract (an optional prompt field) and adds an agent integration, so it waits for a real review. REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION is not raised here: integrations/ and scripts/install-pi-integration.ts are bundle inputs, and the release PR raises it per docs/development.md.

…its own events (#1202)

@eko24ive/pi-ask draws its form itself and takes answers only through pi.events.
An opt-in pi extension (scripts/install-pi-integration.ts, installed by the user
like the GJC one) serves the open forms on a private unix socket and relays the
card's answers as pi-ask's submit event. The server shows the card only when the
pane's pi process, session file, single open form and open ask_user call agree;
anything else stays in Terminal.
…saved checks with a typed answer (#1202)

Codex round 2: a call answered on another /tree branch is still open to pi-ask; a
typed answer from the composer dropped the checks the card showed as saved; a
dropped /answer form (no call) vetoed the live card.

Explanation

Issue #1202 requires a browser prompt card for open @eko24ive/pi-ask ask_user forms. The PR adds the opt-in pi extension, Unix-socket bridge, form and session validation, one-question card navigation, skip and Back behavior, multi-select checks with typed text, and event-based answer submission. It suppresses the unsafe fallback card when an unbound pi-ask form is open. The added route, bridge, installer, and client tests cover accepted answers, stale forms, refusal, lifecycle cases, and fallback behavior. These changes satisfy the issue's coding objective while preserving Terminal behavior without the extension.

Gate the pi-ask check to fallback suppression.

piAskUserOpen runs on every readKnownPrompt call for Pi sessions with a transcript. It skips branch traversal when no ask_user exists and caches unchanged transcripts, so the cost is limited to metadata checks and changed transcripts. The active branch is reread incrementally when the transcript changes, but this remains a low-reward optimization rather than a material performance defect.

The proposed gate preserves suppression for blocked panes and for panes that parse a fallback prompt, including a working pane. It skips the check only when a non-blocked pane has no prompt, which readPrompt already returns without fallback processing.

…ld show (#1202)

CodeRabbit nitpick: a non-blocked pi pane with no prompt never reaches the fallback card.

Applied CodeRabbit's nitpick in 07182ac: the open ask_user read now runs only where a fallback card could show (a blocked pane with no prompt, or a parsed fallback card). The route test pi-ask's form with no extension is never a card of guessed keys, even while herdr reports it blocked still fails with the guard removed. bun run check fast passes (8006 unit tests).

The Integration tests failure on 7491b9a was server/copilot.contract.test.ts:500 ("reads a resumed CLI without marker or report…"), which this PR does not touch; main's run on 30cd84f was red on another contract test at the same time. The push re-runs it.

…submitting, and key answers safely (#1202)

Merge-pass review of 7491b9a (Codex BLOCK, omo addendum):
- Any form the pane's pi reports open, a card or not (an /answer form, another
  session's), now vetoes the generic Enter/Esc card; the open ask_user calls
  come from pi's live branch (getBranch(), through the extension), so a /tree
  move that writes nothing is seen. Reverts 07182ac's blocked-only gate.
- The last step binds the card again from the pane (agent session, foreground
  pid, socket, form) and re-reads the foreground right before submitting.
- Answers are kept in prototype-free maps: a question id like __proto__ or
  constructor keeps its answer.
- Every step the server lets the card reach is a button (can_navigate), and
  drafts_saved keeps a pi step button from waiting on unsent edits.
- The fixture is re-recorded from real pi with openCalls and the current

Merge-pass review of 7491b9a addressed in df42577 (code), a30a10d (guide). Pushed together.

Codex (BLOCK)

  1. HIGH, a pi-ask form with no card still got the Enter/Esc fallback (an /answer form with no call; a /tree move that writes nothing). Now bindPiAsk returns {active, card}, and any form the pane's foreground pi reports vetoes the generic card in readKnownPrompt, whatever herdr's status. 07182ac's blocked-only gate is reverted. The card's open calls come from pi's live branch: the extension reports openCalls from sessionManager.getBranch() with pi-ask's own rule (shared/pi-ask-bridge.ts piAskOpenCalls).
  2. HIGH, the last step could submit to a pi pushed into the background. answerPiAskUser now re-runs piTranscriptPath + bindPiAsk, compares socket, pid and form, and re-reads the foreground pids right before POSTing.
  3. MEDIUM, __proto__ lost its answer. Answers are now prototype-free maps read with Object.hasOwn.

omo addendum

  • constructor ids: same fix as 3.
  • No forward step button after Back to question 1. Every step the server lets the card reach now carries can_navigate, and a new optional drafts_saved keeps blocksStepNavigation from holding a pi step button on unsent edits (this card saves them as it moves).
  • Fixture envelopes: server/fixtures/pi-ask-user-1.2.0-bridge.json is re-recorded from real pi 1.4.0 + pi-ask 1.2.0, with createdAt/sessionFile in the submit envelopes and openCalls in the state.

Verification

  • The 10 new and changed tests (route, extension, client) all fail on 07182ac and pass now. Removing the veto guard fails 2 tests; removing the final foreground read fails 1.
  • Real pi on the isolated ovis-test session, in Chrome: on question 1 (no Back) the saved Checks step is a button and keeps its answer. pi-ask got {scope:[server], checks:[lint], tone:[short]} and confirmed.
  • bun run check fast on a30a10d: 8012 unit tests, 0 failures.
  • Re-reviews of 7491b9a..df42577: Codex PASS (no new findings), omo approve (three LOWs: unused call args, no render test for that card, a cosmetic test file name).

…s session is written (#1202)

Merge-pass review of a30a10d (omo HIGH): the fallback veto asked the
extension only for a written session, so a blocked pane whose pi had an
/answer form open before its first answer got the Enter/Esc card. Whether a
form is open is now asked of the pane's foreground pi through its agent
directory (piPaneAgentDirs), with no session needed; a socket of that pi that
does not answer counts as open. Cards still need the written session and pi's
live branch.
…en or not known closed (#1202)

Merge-pass review of a30a10d (Codex HIGHs, on top of omo's unwritten-session one):
- Whether a pi-ask form is open is three-state (piAskActivity): only a proven
  "inactive" lets keys through. An unreadable process list, a socket not this
  user's alone, a read that fails or answers for another pid are "unknown";
  every foreground pid's socket is asked, so two candidates no longer read as
  none.
- piPaneAgentDirs takes each pi's agent directory from its own environment,
  whatever its session store (a --session-dir no longer hides it).
- The fallback veto is asked after the screen read, and every key of a
  key-driven answer into a pi pane is preceded by the same check, so a form
  that opens in between gets none of them.
- Card binding (bindPiAsk) stays apart: it only says whether a card binds.
…1202)

omo r6 MEDIUM: the answer path refused keys for every pi card while a pi-ask
form was open or not known closed, but the read path still offered pi's own
dialogs, so their answers came back 409 in a loop. The read path now applies
the same check to every key-driven pi card.
…tree left behind (#1202)

Codex r6 MEDIUM: after a /tree move away from an unanswered ask_user call (which
writes nothing), the key check trusted the stale call in the session file and
refused pi's own dialogs even when the extension said no form was open. The
check now tells "no extension to ask" (absent) from "the extension says none
open" (inactive): the session file decides only when the extension is absent.
…en form (#1202)

omo HIGH on c35a7d9: the extension lists forms only from pi-ask's started
events, so a pi-ask that sends none reported no form while one was open, and
"inactive" let the generic card's keys through. A call still open on pi's live
branch (the extension's openCalls) now counts as open too, and when pi cannot
say which calls are open (openCalls null) the session file decides.

Last round on the guessed-key path, addressed in d123385..e23fbc6 (pushed together):

  • omo HIGH (unwritten session): the extension is now asked from the pane's own foreground pi through its agent directory, with no session needed (piPaneAgentDirs, piAskActivity).
  • Codex HIGH (--session-dir): each pi's agent directory comes from its own environment, whatever its session store (piProcessPaths).
  • Codex HIGH (ambiguous socket or failed read): activity is now active / unknown / absent / inactive. Only "inactive" (the extension answered: no form and no open call on pi's live branch) lets keys through, and every foreground pid's socket is asked.
  • Codex HIGH (stale read): the check runs after the screen read for every key-driven pi card, and again right before every key of a key-driven answer into a pi pane (rpiv navigation included).
  • omo MEDIUM (409 loop on pi's own dialogs): the read path offers no key-driven pi card that the key path would refuse.
  • Codex MEDIUM (stale /tree call in the file): the extension's live answer outranks the session file, which is consulted only when no extension serves the pane's pi.
  • omo HIGH / Codex MEDIUM (pi-ask with no started event): a call open on pi's live branch counts as an open form, and when pi cannot say which calls are open, the session file decides.

Each fix has a route or unit test that fails without it (fails-before on a30a10d, plus mutations of each guard). omo approves e23fbc6 and re-ran its reproduction there: no card, no keys. Codex's last round reviewed c35a7d9; its one finding is the "no started event" case above, fixed in e23fbc6 as it suggested. bun run check fast on e23fbc6: 8019 unit tests, 0 failures. Known limits are in the PR body.

Merge-pass decision on e23fbc6: each round found another window between a
check and the key send (the latest: herdr's foreground switching to another pi
while the last check read the first one's extension). A pi pane now never gets
the generic Enter/Esc card; a blocked pi pane whose screen no reader knows
shows no card and the terminal answers. pi's own parsed dialogs keep their
cards and the pi-ask check, which now also refuses when the pane's foreground
changed during its reads. The pi-ask card answers only through the
extension's submit, as before.
…1202)

omo MEDIUM on 364e720: herdr labels an OmO pane `pi` while OmO waits, so the
no-generic-card rule for pi reached OmO panes too. A pane whose process tree
says OmO (paneRunsOmo) keeps the card other agents get; readPrompt now relies
on readKnownPrompt's suppressFallback instead of repeating the agent test.

Final round (Dori's decision on e23fbc6), pushed as 364e720 + ec2a539:

  • A pi pane gets no generic card of guessed keys. A blocked pi pane whose screen no reader knows shows no card, and the terminal answers. pi's own parsed dialogs keep their cards and the pi-ask check, and the pi-ask card still answers only through the extension's submit. Tests that expected a generic card on a pi pane (two rpiv tests, the pi entries of one prompt.test.ts case) now expect none.
  • The second reviewer's foreground swap (pi A says no form, herdr's foreground switches to pi B with a form open, Enter goes to B): piAskActivity re-reads the pane's foreground after the extension's answer, and any change counts as unknown. The swap is a regression that records herdr's send_keys; it fails on e23fbc6 and passes now. What remains is the gap between that last herdr answer and send_keys, which only herdr could close.
  • OmO panes: herdr labels them pi while OmO waits. omo (M2) and Codex both found they lost their generic card too. ec2a539 tells them apart with paneRunsOmo, with a test that fails without it.

Reviews: omo approves ec2a539 (LOWs only). Codex's review of 364e720 raised one MEDIUM, that same OmO case, fixed in ec2a539. bun run check fast on ec2a539: 8022 unit tests, 0 failures. The branch merges cleanly with main 67cc818.

…extension serves the pane (#1202)

Merge-pass decision on ec2a539: a reviewer reproduced an /answer form opening
in the same pi while the last check re-read the foreground, so Enter went into
it; any further read only moves the window. Where the extension serves the
pane's pi (its socket answers, or cannot be read), the pane gets no key-driven
card, pi's own dialogs and rpiv tab arrows included, and keys are refused before
every send. Without the extension pi's own dialogs are as on main, so this PR's
session-file check for them, and the reader it needed, are removed (omo-ask.ts
back to main).

Final round (Dori's decision 2 on ec2a539), pushed as 626f109 + 37ebf2b:

  • Where the pi-ask extension serves the pane's pi (its socket answers, or cannot be read), the pane gets no key-driven card: pi's own select, confirm and input dialogs and the rpiv tab arrows included. Keys are refused at the read, before every key, and before every rpiv navigation key, and the terminal answers those dialogs. The pi-ask card still answers only through the extension.
  • Without the extension, pi's own dialogs work exactly as on main. This PR's session-file check for them is removed, and server/omo-ask.ts is back to main.
  • The reviewer's same-pi reopen (an /answer form opening in pi A during the last check) is a regression test. It fails on ec2a539 and under ec2a539's rule. The four route tests that assumed a pi dialog card on a served pane are rewritten to the rule.
  • Follow-up (pre-existing, noted in the PR body): without the extension, a pi-ask form opening between the read and the key of pi's own dialog can take that key, as on main.

Reviews: omo approves 626f109 (LOWs only; the stale test comment it noted is fixed in 37ebf2b). Codex found no new CRITICAL, HIGH or MEDIUM in the round. bun run check fast on 37ebf2b: 8022 unit tests, 0 failures. The branch merges cleanly with main.

Merging 37ebf2b after the merge pass's review rounds, the last under the round cap. Earlier heads reproduced HIGHs where a guessed key could reach an open pi-ask form: a missed fallback veto, an unwritten session, an ambiguous socket or failed read treated as inactive, a stale read before the screen read, a foreground switch during the final check, and a form opening in the same pi during that check. A submission could also reach a previous foreground process. Because every further check only moved the race window, the maintainer side (Dori's decisions) ended the class instead of patching it. A pi pane gets no generic Enter/Esc fallback card. Where the pi-ask extension serves the pane's pi, no key-driven pi card is offered: neither pi's own dialogs nor rpiv tab arrows, so the terminal answers. The pi-ask card answers only through the extension's submit, which rebinds and re-reads the foreground first. Without the extension, pi's own dialogs work as on main, and that pre-existing case goes to the follow-up. The final-round reviewer re-ran every earlier reproduction plus 22 adversarial probes through the real handlePromptRequest route with isolated sockets, and none delivered a key or a wrong submission. That covers the extension appearing or disappearing between read and answer, failed reads, and foreground swaps at every boundary. 91 unit tests pass. Codex was at capacity for several rounds, so an omo reviewer on gpt-6.1-sol and an independent second reviewer stood in. The required checks are green; one Integration run first failed on an unrelated gjc.contract.test.ts process-info timing flake and passed on rerun. CodeRabbit did not review this head. Remaining notes go to a follow-up issue.
