feat(chat): show the composer's New tab button only when turned on in Settings - #1576
Conversation
… Settings The New tab with an agent… icon button beside the mic (#1512, desktop only) now stays out of the composer until this device turns it on: a new device setting, composerNewTabButton, off by default and boolean-checked in sanitizeSettings, with a New tab button toggle in Settings → Chat → Composer in a mouse-driven window (a touch screen never shows the button, so it is not offered the toggle). The same dialog stays reachable from the tab menu, New tab and the workspace menu; nothing else in the composer changes. The browser check opens the demo with nothing stored, finds no button, turns the toggle on through Settings and finds the button opening the dialog; the unreleased changelog fragment and DESIGN.md say the button is opt-in.

near {!touch && ...} to match the Composer button’s media-query visibility logic
at its corresponding button locations, including the 640px boundary, so the
setting is shown only when the button is available.

…can show Settings offered the toggle in any mouse-driven window, while the composer also hides the button at 640px and narrower, so turning it on in a narrow window showed nothing. Both now use the same media query.
## Change Every merge to `main` now gets a CI run that finishes, so a red `main` points at the merge that caused it. - `.github/workflows/ci.yml` and `.github/workflows/windows-install.yml` (the two required workflows that run on pushes to `main`): a push is grouped by its commit (`github.sha`) instead of the branch. A later merge can no longer replace a queued `main` run. - Pull requests are unchanged: one group per branch, and a new push cancels the superseded PR run. - `scripts/ci-concurrency.test.ts` pins both expressions. Why: on 2026-10-22, #1573's `main` run (586a3b8) was still queued when #1576 merged and was replaced, so no run ever said whether #1573 alone broke `main`. The merge pass judges a PR's failure against `main`'s result for the same tests, which needs a finished run per merge. Cost: each merge's `main` run now completes, so a busy merge hour runs more `main` CI. Linux jobs run on GitHub-hosted runners now (the `CI_SELF_HOSTED_LABELS` repository variable was removed the same day), so this does not load the maintainer's PC. Reference: oh-my-openagent's `ci.yml` concurrency (code-yeongyu/oh-my-openagent#10638), which also never cancels a running push run. No changelog fragment: nothing users see changes. ## Validation - `bun test scripts/ci-concurrency.test.ts scripts/pages-gate.test.ts scripts/conventions.test.ts`: 60 pass, 0 fail. - CI's workflow syntax check runs on this PR.
The composer's row stays minimal: extra composer buttons are opt-in from Settings and off by default, as the New tab button is (devswha#1576). A device setting, composerArtifacts, adds an Artifacts chip switch to Settings > Chat > Composer with ja/ko/zh strings. While it is off the chip renders nothing and asks the server for no pages.
Change
Maintainer decision: keep the chat composer minimal. The composer's New tab with an agent… icon button (#1512, beside the mic, desktop only) is now off by default. It shows only after this device turns it on in Settings. The same New tab dialog is still reachable from the tab menu, New tab, and the workspace menu, and the dialog itself is unchanged.
composerNewTabButton(src/lib/settings.ts): defaultfalse, boolean-checked insanitizeSettings,devicescope (not shared between browsers), and left out of the telemetry snapshot likefollowHerdrFocus.Composer.tsxdraws the button only when the setting is on. Nothing else in the composer changes.git tag --contains 7cd3648clists nothing), so this edits its fragment,changelog.d/new-session-skills.md, to say the button is opt-in from Settings instead of adding a new entry. DESIGN.md's New tab and Settings dialog entries say the same and name the precedent: the Codex and Claude apps keep their composer row to attach and the mic, and start a new thread from the sidebar.Validation
bun run check fast: exit 0 on the pushed head (4448f15): workflow syntax, generated types and themes, typecheck, build, and unit tests (5818 pass, 0 fail, 8 skip). An earlier run exited 1 only becauseserver/session-history.test.ts› "never reads a crashed writer's uncommitted change from a rollback-journal store" timed out under a load average of about 41–45. That test fails on main too (the merge pass reproduced the timeout on main alone), so it is unrelated to this branch and is being fixed separately.src/lib/settings.test.ts: a new test covers the default (off), the boolean check, thedevicescope, and absence fromSHARED_SETTING_KEYS.bun scripts/new-session-skills-browser-qa.ts(in CI's browser lane): exit 0, 7/7 scenarios pass. A new first scenario opens the demo on a desktop with nothing stored and checks that the composer has no.composer-new-session. It then turns the toggle on through Settings (?settings=chat§ion=composer) and checks that the button appears and opens the dialog. The phone scenario now checks that a phone's card has no button even with the setting on.getByRole("switch", { name: "New tab button" })counts 0. I checked the screenshots by eye: turning the setting on only inserts the button between the mic and the plan chip.
