fix(chat): finish the composing word on Send - #1142
Conversation
On a phone, tapping chat Send while the keyboard still composes the last word (Gboard composes every word; a Korean keyboard keeps the open syllable) did nothing, tap after tap. #937 keeps focus in the message box on the tap so the keyboard stays up, so nothing in the tap ends the composition, and Composer.send() returns early while composingRef is set (the guard from #334). The Send button now does what #959 did for the terminal input line: a tap during composition blurs and refocuses the box inside the gesture (Chrome ends the composition and fires compositionend at once, and the keyboard stays up), then sends a tick later. A keyboard that does not commit within 300 ms gets the tap withdrawn with "Finish the word, then send.", so a later commit never sends on its own. Enter during composition is unchanged. composer-fit-demo-regression gains a phone case with a real CDP composition: it fails on main (the box keeps "hello 안") and passes here. ## Cause #914 added `describe("an unknown host")` to `server/ssh.test.ts`. Its `hostKey()` helper ran `ssh-keygen` to make an ed25519 host key and read its fingerprint, and `learnHostKey()` in `server/ssh.ts` runs `ssh-keygen -l` on the learned key. The self-hosted CI runner image has no OpenSSH client, so Fast checks fail on every PR with `error: Executable not found in $PATH: "ssh-keygen"`. The three failing tests are "shows the fingerprint before any authenticating connection and trusts it on yes", "trusts nothing on no" and "is not learned without someone to ask". Evidence: Actions run 38661729060 on #1142. ## Fix This changes only the test; production code is unchanged. - `hostKey()` generates the key in-process with `node:crypto` (`generateKeyPairSync("ed25519")`). It builds the OpenSSH wire-format blob (`string "ssh-ed25519"`, `string <32-byte key>`), the known_hosts line `pc.example ssh-ed25519 <base64 blob>` and the fingerprint `SHA256:<unpadded base64 of sha256(blob)>`. - The fixture already puts a stand-in `ssh` on PATH. It now also puts a stand-in `ssh-keygen` there, which prints `ssh-keygen -l -f <known_hosts>` output (`256 SHA256:… <host> (ED25519)`) computed in Bun from the file it is given. `learnHostKey()` still spawns `ssh-keygen -l` and parses its output exactly as before. - No test is skipped or made conditional, and the assertions are unchanged. I checked the stand-in once by hand: for a generated key, the in-process fingerprint, the stand-in's line and the real `ssh-keygen -l -f` line were byte-identical (`256 SHA256:u8eq…KsGY pc.example (ED25519)`). ## Verification - `bun run typecheck`: exit 0 - `HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test ./server/ssh.test.ts`: 10 pass, 0 fail - The same test with ssh-keygen hidden (`PATH=/tmp/no-keygen-path:~/.bun/bin`, where the shim dir symlinks every `/usr/bin` entry except `ssh-keygen` and `command -v ssh-keygen` finds nothing): 10 pass, 0 fail - `bun run check fast`: exit 0, unit tests 3769 pass, 0 fail, 8 skip No changelog fragment: this is a test-only change.
Problem
On a phone, tapping chat Send while the keyboard is still composing the last word does nothing, and tapping again does nothing either. Gboard composes every word, and Korean/Japanese/Chinese keyboards keep the last syllable open, so this hits ordinary typing. It works only after a space or the keyboard's own Return.
Cause
#937 made the Send button
preventDefaultits pointerdown so focus stays in the message box and the keyboard stays up. With focus kept, nothing in the tap ends the composition, andComposer.send()returns early whilecomposingRefis set (the guard from #334). Before #937 the tap's blur ended the composition first. #959 fixed the same thing in the terminal input line and noted that the chat composer needed the same treatment.Fix
Same approach as #959 (
TerminalInput.tsx):compositionendat once; refocusing in the same gesture keeps the keyboard up.compositionend, the send runs a tick later (after WebKit's committing input event).Tests
scripts/composer-fit-demo-regression.ts: new phone case. It typeshello, opens a real composition안via CDPInput.imeSetComposition, and taps Send. It expects the box to empty, focus to stay in the box, and the next syllable to start in an empty box. Fails on main (value "hello 안") and passes here.bun run check fast: 3754 unit tests, typecheck and build pass.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
