Per governance RFC 0016 (accepted): every Dasher v6 frontend displays its application version in its settings UI — for now, one plain, non-interactive line at the bottom of the Privacy tab (the tab every frontend already ships for the analytics opt-in).
Requirements
- Content: the frontend's user-facing name + version, e.g.
Dasher 0.2.2 — nothing else.
- Source of truth: the same version constant the frontend already reports in analytics/crash events (RFC 0001/0009), so the UI can never disagree with telemetry.
- Placement: bottom of the Privacy tab. Interim until RFC 0006's About section exists.
- Engine (DasherCore) version display is out of scope (open sub-question in the RFC; needs an engine version API).
Why
User reports arrive without build information; correlating the August 2026 Windows feedback with releases required guessing between v0.1.14/v0.1.15 (functionally identical — which itself changed the diagnosis). Users on packaged installs (store builds, Flatpak/AppImage, APKs, self-builds) frequently cannot answer "which version are you running?" without this.
Testing (per RFC 0011)
Manual: the shown string equals the version in analytics events (by construction when the constant is shared) and appears on the Privacy tab.
