Closes #15 ("Trial P-13: the model CLI returns validated structured output on the subscription").

Verdict: pass

A session ran tools/trial_p13_cli.sh at a0fa60b on 2026-10-18 (ran_at 2026-10-18T18:01:19Z), with the
Maintainer's approval, after the Maintainer logged the CLI in under ~/.config/sf-factory-claude to the
Maintainer's own subscription (decision 0033). The script never read the login. The
pass condition was written before the run. It is in the fixture word for word. Measured against it:

Part Seen
The CLI at 2.1.302 Exchange 1, claude --version: 2.1.302 (Claude Code). The script asked again after the Task and got 2.1.302 both times. That second read is in the script's checked.json, not in the fixture as an exchange
Logged in under its own configuration directory Exchange 2, claude auth status --json, of which only four fields were kept: loggedIn true, authMethod claude.ai, apiProvider firstParty, subscriptionType max
-p, --output-format json, --json-schema: exits 0 with is_error false Exchange 3: status 0, is_error false, subtype success
structured_output validates against the schema it was given The schema is in exchange 3's request: the smallest Result of §3.5 (schema, run, status, dispositions). Validated again from the fixture alone with tools/jsonschema_lite.py: no errors. The answer was correct too: f_9c1e was accepted, and f_22ab was rejected with fix_incomplete
usage carries integer input_tokens and output_tokens input_tokens 2, output_tokens 194, plus the cache counts and total_cost_usd

The metered key was not needed.

What was removed

  • The model's text. The script took out result, 207 characters, before anything was written. No
tool was refused, so permission_denials was already empty. structured_output was kept because it
validated, and every string in it is a code or an id.

  • removed lists 11 places. The redaction deleted them by their keys' names, because each name holds
"token". They are token counts, not credentials:

    • usage.output_tokens_details
    • usage.cache_creation.ephemeral_1h_input_tokens and ephemeral_5m_input_tokens
    • the same two under usage.iterations[0].cache_creation
    • modelUsage.claude-opus-5-5.inputTokens, outputTokens, cacheReadInputTokens,
      cacheCreationInputTokens, maxOutputTokens and thinkingTokens

The snake-case input_tokens and output_tokens that the pass condition needs were kept.
    KEY_HARMLESS is unchanged.

  • The login's status. Every field but the four named above was dropped, including the account's
    address and org.

  • The standard error was empty. The second redaction, over the drafted fixture, removed nothing.

Decision 0033 (working ruling)

  • For now, the Factory's model credential is the Maintainer's own subscription, logged in under a
configuration directory of its own. This departs from §1.1 and §4.9: if the credential is stolen, the
Maintainer loses their own account, not only a rotated credential.
  • The vendor's terms are not confirmed. The Maintainer accepted that risk.
  • Slice 1's CI credential reopens this decision.
  • A trial of a vendor's CLI records repo as null and asks as the new as.kind subscription.
schemas/trial.schema.json accepts exactly that, with an example (examples/trial.a-vendors-cli.json).
  • tools/check_trials.py ties the two together: repo is null exactly when every request asks as
subscription. It also refuses an asker's name that contains @, so an account is never named by its
address. Each rule has a test and a mutant.

Also in this change

  • tools/trial_p13_cli.sh, the script that ran.
  • The design's P-13 row says how the trial is run, that it passed, and names decision 0033.
  • The skill's "Who acts" says how P-13 is run and recorded.
  • trials/AGENTS.md has a new row for a trial of a vendor's CLI.
  • Grounding. No rule in sim/grounding.py names P-13, so nothing was grounded.
  • Undone in the canary. Nothing: the trial never touched it.

After review (bbe7d0a)

A fresh-context Claude review and a security pass found no blocker, and no credential in the script's
output or the fixture. CodeRabbit raised five threads. Fixed:

  • Two account-linked ids taken out. A session removed session_id and uuid from the fixture by hand,
because they map to the account at the vendor. Both are listed in removed. The queue squashes, so
    neither reaches main's history.
  • Config-dir text corrected. The three env.CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR descriptions were the script's own
words, not captured values. A session corrected them after the run to name the Maintainer's own
    subscription.
  • Two rules moved into tools/check_trials.py. The repo/subscription rule and the address rule are
now checks. They replace a counter-example the schema refused for an unrelated reason.
  • "The Factory's subscription" and "every trial runs in the canary" corrected in the skill,
trials/AGENTS.md, the schema's title and the design row.
  • §6's "version the engine port pins" answered. The design row now says the trial script pins the
version until adapters/' engine port exists.
  • The pass text's timing. It was written to a scratch file before the run and committed after it.

Kept as it ran. tools/trial_p13_cli.sh is byte for byte the script that ran at a0fa60b. Its hardening
before any re-run is #178, "Trial scripts: P-13's script hardened before it runs again". That covers:

  • an allowlist of output fields, in place of the blocklist;
  • a wider config-dir refusal;
  • the model's tools disallowed;
  • stopping on an unknown login;
  • tests for the refusals;
  • SonarCloud's [[ notes.

Merge order

Verify

  • python3 -m tools.check_trials: ok.
  • make verify on a new git archive HEAD export of bbe7d0a, with PATH=/usr/bin:/bin and
SIM_SEEDS=40: every check ok, and all 680 tests pass.
  • The mutant run is CI's: its shards run it on this head.

…ult, at the Maintainer's terminal

For #15. tools/trial_p13_cli.sh runs the CLI at version 2.1.302, headless,
on a configuration directory the Maintainer has logged in to the Factory's own subscription, with one
fixed Task and --json-schema set to the smallest Result section 3.5 implies. It gives the CLI no
environment from the shell but the names it lists, so no key or token reaches it; it keeps only the
named fields of the login's status; it takes the model's text out of the answer, keeps the structured
output only if tools/jsonschema_lite.py validates it, and writes only what tools/redact_trial.py let
through to a new directory outside the repo. It refuses an OUT inside the repo or that exists, the
default configuration, a configuration inside the repo, and any other version. The metered key, if the
answer is no, is the Maintainer's second step and not this script's.

The skill says who runs P-13 and how, and the design's row for P-13 says how it is run and what passes.
The fixture waits for the run.

…age, headless, at 2.1.302

For #15. The Maintainer ran tools/trial_p13_cli.sh at a0fa60b on
2026-10-18, on his own subscription logged in under ~/.config/sf-factory-claude. The CLI at 2.1.302
exited 0 with is_error false; its structured_output validates against the smallest Result of section
3.5 under tools/jsonschema_lite.py; the same answer's usage carries input_tokens and output_tokens.
trials/P-13.json is built from the script's output directory alone. The model's text was taken out
by the script. The redaction removed eleven token counts, by their keys' names, which `removed`
lists; none is a credential.

Decision 0034, a working ruling: the Factory's model credential is, for now, the Maintainer's own
subscription, which departs from sections 1.1 and 4.9 until slice 1's CI credential; and a trial of
a vendor's CLI records `repo` as null and asks as `subscription`. The trial schema accepts exactly
that, with an example and a counter-example. The schema cannot tie `subscription` to a null `repo`,
since its validator has no conditional; the record says so. The design's P-13 row, the skill and
trials/AGENTS.md say what passed and how it is recorded.

…it is built

The record is renamed, and every reference to it follows: the design's P-13 row, the skill,
trials/AGENTS.md, the trial schema's description of `repo`, and in trials/P-13.json the name of
the subscription and the number the pass condition gave the decision.

📝 Walkthrough

The pull request adds a script for a pinned, headless vendor CLI trial using a subscription configuration. It updates trial schema and fixture conventions, records the P-13 result, and documents the procedure and credential ruling.

Changes: P-13 vendor CLI trial

Layer / File(s) Summary
Trial record contract and conventions
schemas/trial.schema.json, docs/decisions/0033-...md, trials/AGENTS.md, examples/trial.a-vendors-cli.json, examples/invalid/trial.a-subscription-named-by-its-address.json
The schema permits repo: null and subscription request identities. Decision 0033 and fixture guidance specify how vendor-CLI trials record those values. The example fixtures record subscription-authenticated CLI responses.
Pinned CLI setup and isolated execution
tools/trial_p13_cli.sh
The script checks its arguments and paths, defines the fixed Task and result schema, and runs the CLI in an isolated environment. It redacts captured output and removes raw captures.
Trial checks and result recording
tools/trial_p13_cli.sh
The script checks the CLI version and authentication, runs the Task, validates structured output and usage, and reports whether all required checks pass.
P-13 trial record and procedure
trials/P-13.json, docs/architecture/software-factory-design.md, .claude/skills/run-a-platform-trial/SKILL.md
The trial record reports a pass for CLI version 2.1.302 with validated structured output and integer token usage. The architecture entry and skill guidance describe the procedure and fixture values.

Explanation

The script, fixture, schema updates, redaction examples, decision record, and guidance directly support the P-13 trial and its recording rules in issue #15. The separate configuration checks and fixture validation support the stated objective. No unrelated implementation is demonstrated. Workflow execution is not included, consistent with issue #15's slice 1 boundary.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #15 requires the trial to use a subscription used only by the Factory. The script enforces a separate configuration directory, but trials/P-13.json and decision 0033 state that the account is the Maintainer's own subscription. This does not satisfy the Factory-credential requirement. The pinned CLI, headless execution, validated structured_output, integer usage fields, credential exclusion, and model-text removal are present. No metered-key run is required because the subscription run passed. Vendor-term confirmation remains unresolved, as the PR states.

Resolution

Run P-13 with a subscription owned and used only by the Factory, and record that run with the required redaction. Confirm that automated use complies with the vendor's terms before treating issue #15 as complete.

…n asker is never an address

For #177, the one fix round. tools/trial_p13_cli.sh is unchanged: it stays the
script that ran at a0fa60b, and its hardening is a follow-on issue.

- trials/P-13.json: session_id and uuid, which map to the account at the vendor, are taken out by
hand and listed in `removed`. The three descriptions of CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR, the script's words, now
say whose subscription it was: a configuration directory of its own, logged in to the
  Maintainer's own subscription (decision 0033).
- tools/check_trials.py ties `repo` and the asker both ways: a null repo only when every request
asks as subscription, and subscription only with a null repo. It refuses an asker's name that
holds an @. Both apply to a fixture and to an example of one; each has a test and a mutant.
- The counter-example with an extra `address` key tested only the schema's closed object, and the
check_trials rule cannot be a counter-example, which the schema alone must refuse. It is dropped,
and its case is in the new test.
- Decision 0033 and trials/AGENTS.md name the checks. The skill, trials/AGENTS.md and the trial
schema's title say a trial runs in the canary or, for a vendor's CLI, in no repo. The design's P-13
row and the skill say whose subscription it ran on, and that the script pins the version until
the engine port in adapters/ exists.
