📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe dev-lead prompts now define marker use for check-fix comments and disposition of non-actionable bot notices. As wired, the lookup cannot reliably find the triggering notice. The actor is not passed in, the lookup can match other comments by the same bot, and comments beyond the first 100 are not searched. Code Review
This pull request introduces instructions and regression tests to ensure that agent-authored PR comments and acknowledgements are stamped with specific HTML markers ( and ). This prevents the maintainer-comment gate from misidentifying these automated comments as undispositioned human findings, which previously blocked PR approvals. The review feedback suggests simplifying the newly added BATS unit tests by removing the verbose error-handling pattern, as standalone conditional expressions are the standard and idiomatic way to assert test success in BATS.

… its body in a shell command Codex P1 on PR #1928: fix-bot-comment told the agent to run jq … --arg body "${COMMENT_BODY}" … and envsubst pasted the raw bot comment into that double-quoted argument. Bot comments routinely quote code, so double quotes, backticks or $(…) in them would break the command or execute when the agent runs it. Stop re-finding the notice by body text at all. The webhook already carries its GraphQL node id: - dev-lead-intent.sh: the fix-bot-comment context now includes comment_node_id (.comment.node_id). - dev-lead-reusable.yml: export it as INTENT_COMMENT_NODE_ID, only if it matches ^[A-Za-z0-9_-]+$ (anything else becomes empty), and pass COMMENT_NODE_ID to the fix-bot-comment step. It is computed before the existing GITHUB_ENV echo run, so actionlint output is unchanged. - dev-lead-fix-reviews.sh: export COMMENT_NODE_ID for envsubst. - fix-bot-comment.md: declare COMMENT_NODE_ID. The disposition targets ${COMMENT_NODE_ID}, after one GraphQL read confirms the node is authored by ${ACTOR} and not already minimized RESOLVED. On an empty id or a failed check it posts nothing. This also removes the body-match and pagination loop, and with it the ambiguous-match failure mode. Tests: - the intent context carries comment_node_id; - COMMENT_NODE_ID is declared; - no fenced bash block in fix-bot-comment.md interpolates COMMENT_BODY; - the reusable validates and forwards the id. All four fail on the previous code. Rendering the prompt through envsubst with a hostile body ("$(touch /tmp/pwned)", backticks) gives a bash block that passes `bash -n` and contains none of it. Pre-existing, unrelated failures, identical on 25c634b: test_fix_reviews.bats "whitespace/cosmetic-only change" and tests/dev-lead/integration/test_prompt_coverage.sh. … per comment instruction Two Codex findings on PR #1928: - P1, fix-bot-comment.md case 1: the prompt told the agent to post nothing for "SonarCloud's Quality Gate passed", but the gate only auto-clears a comment matching the FULL info_status_pattern: the headline AND [0 New issues] AND [0 Security Hotspots]. A "passed" comment that still lists issues or hotspots would have been ignored and kept blocking, with its findings skipped. Case 1 now requires the full pattern and routes a pass-with-findings to case 2 or to finding handling. - P2, test_agent_marker_convention.bats: the per-occurrence helper let one marker vouch for two adjacent `gh pr comment` instructions whose windows overlap. Each instruction must now claim its own unclaimed marker line. Counterfactual tests: two instructions with one shared marker fail; with two markers they pass. Summary
PR #1919 fix (head 6ac71b1) makes dev-lead stamp agent markers on its own PR issue comments and disposition non-actionable bot notices by webhook node id, so its acknowledgements no longer self-block the maintainer-comment gate. Correctness review found no bugs: the gate marker regex matches the new :check-fix/:comment-disposition markers, the disposition reuses the established #1813 node-id minimize flow, and the node id is allowlist-validated before touching GITHUB_ENV/GraphQL. All escalated P1/P2 advisory findings are resolved in the current head. Change touches the reusable workflow pinned by 8 downstream consumers (dev-lead-reusable.yml) but adds only non-secret env vars with proper validation; no HIGH trigger. Required CI (Lint/shellcheck/bats/unit/SonarCloud/CodeQL/gitleaks) is green; only the advisory cubic reviewer is still running (non-gating).

Findings
- INFO: Codex P1 (fix-bot-comment.md ~L142/L146) resolved: disposition no longer body-matches the notice; it targets the webhook COMMENT_NODE_ID. No fenced bash block interpolates COMMENT_BODY (awk guard passes), and the node id is validated ^[A-Za-z0-9_-]+$ before being written to GITHUB_ENV and passed via 'gh api graphql -f id='. The trailing-newline body-comparison concern is moot under the id-based approach.
- INFO: Codex P1 (fix-bot-comment.md L117) resolved: case-1 'post nothing' now requires the FULL info_status_pattern ('[0 New issues]' AND '[0 Security Hotspots]'); a 'Quality Gate passed' comment that still lists issues/hotspots is explicitly 'not clean' and routed to case 2 / findings, matching the #1918 classifier. [auditable: repro confirmed]
- INFO: Codex P2 (test_agent_marker_convention.bats L41) resolved: assert_each_pr_comment_marked now claims each marker line at most once, so two adjacent gh-pr-comment instructions cannot share one marker. Verified by running the helper against the real prompt files (pass) and the two self-test fixtures (share-one → fail, each-marked → pass).
- INFO: Verified the maintainer-comment-gate agent-marker regex '' matches the new :check-fix and :comment-disposition markers, so marked dev-lead comments are correctly excluded from the undispositioned count. New gate tests (marked→0, unmarked→1) align with this behavior.
- INFO: Codex P1 (lint.yml L9) + cubic/Codex P2 (lint.yml L190) resolved: prompts/** added to both pull_request and push path filters, the new bats test registered in the lint list, and AGENTS.md documents the prompts/** filter divergence as an explicit template-sync exception.
- MINOR: The node-id allowlist ^[A-Za-z0-9_-]+$ rejects legacy base64 node ids that contain '=', '+' or '/'. Modern GitHub issue-comment node ids are base64url (IC_* form) and pass; a rejected id fails closed (INTENT_COMMENT_NODE_ID empty → prompt posts nothing and records that it could not auto-disposition), so no incorrect action results. Acceptable, but worth awareness if any legacy-format ids are ever seen.
- INFO: At current head 6ac71b1 all required checks are SUCCESS (Lint, shellcheck, ShellCheck, bats, unit, unit-tests, SonarCloud, CodeQL actions+python, gitleaks). shellcheck on the two changed scripts (dev-lead-intent.sh, dev-lead-fix-reviews.sh) is clean locally. Only the advisory 'cubic · AI code reviewer' is still IN_PROGRESS (non-gating). BLOCKED/REVIEW_REQUIRED reflects the pending review this tier supplies.

…case-1 test to its paragraph Round-2 review on PR #1928: - cubic P1: the node-id allowlist ^[A-Za-z0-9_-]+$ rejected legacy base64 ids with padding or +/, which silently emptied the id. It is now ^[-A-Za-z0-9_+/=]+$. It still rejects newlines, quotes and $(…), all checked by hand. - Codex P2: a fix-bot-comment with no usable node id now fails the run with ::error:: in the parse step. Before, it could only no-op and leave the notice blocking the approval gate without anyone seeing why. - cubic P3: the case-1 test now requires [0 New issues], [0 Security Hotspots] and "is **not** clean" on the single case-1 paragraph, not anywhere in the file. Tests: 10/10 in test_agent_marker_convention.bats. actionlint findings unchanged. Refs #1919 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

… informational Codex P1 (round 3) on PR #1928: the case-1 text said a "Quality Gate passed" comment that still lists issues or hotspots could be treated "under case 2". Case 2 posts an `informational` disposition, which the resolver verifies only by a non-empty reply before minimizing the bot comment RESOLVED. That would hide real findings. Such a comment is now findings-only: fix them or reply with specifics, and never disposition it informational. The case-1 test asserts that prohibition on the case-1 paragraph. The other round-3 findings (idempotent retry, failing the run on a failed target verification, and a behavioural test for the node-id guard) all fail safe and are tracked in #1934. Summary
PR #1928 fixes #1919: dev-lead's own unmarked comments blocking approval. It propagates the triggering comment's GraphQL node id (webhook -> intent -> reusable -> fix-bot-comment prompt), validates it with a base64 allowlist regex, fails loudly for fix-bot-comment when it is missing/malformed, and adds marker conventions so the maintainer-comment gate excludes agent-authored comments. Changes dev-lead-reusable.yml (pinned by 8 consumers incl. ContentTwin, TalkTerm, markets, broodly) but the new guard is scoped to INTENT_TYPE=fix-bot-comment so other consumer flows are unaffected; all required CI is green (bats now SUCCESS) and the change is security-improving.

Findings
- INFO: Node-id guard logic verified in isolation: valid base64/base64url ids (incl. +,/,= padding) are accepted, empty/malformed ids are emptied and trigger the fail-loud exit only for INTENT_TYPE=fix-bot-comment. The allowlist regex excludes newlines/quotes, so no GITHUB_ENV injection is possible via INTENT_COMMENT_NODE_ID. [auditable: repro confirmed]
- INFO: assert_each_pr_comment_marked verified behaviorally: two adjacent instructions sharing one marker fail, two with distinct markers pass, and zero instructions fail (no vacuous pass). This addresses the advisory-bot concern that the marker test only grepped for strings; per-window claiming binds each marker to one instruction.
- MINOR: Residual (Codex P1): when a syntactically valid node id fails runtime verification (unfetchable, wrong node type, or author != ACTOR), the prompt instructs the agent to post nothing and record the failure only in its output summary. A failed Bash call does not force the writer engine to exit nonzero and resolve_dispositioned_comments succeeds after minimizing zero comments, so a non-retryable fix-bot-comment run can finish green while the original notice keeps blocking. Non-regressive (worst case equals the pre-PR status quo, which still requires human attention), but the fail-loud contract only covers the missing/malformed case, not wrong-target. [auditable: repro unverifiable]
- MINOR: Residual (Codex P1): if a fix-bot-comment run posts its disposition reply but is cancelled/fails before resolve_dispositioned_comments minimizes the original, a rerun's pre-check only confirms author+not-minimized and does not detect the existing disposition, so it posts a second marker. The resolver requires exactly one authorized disposition and skips when auth_count != 1 (scripts/dev-lead-fix-reviews.sh:1004), leaving the original permanently unresolved. The auth_count!=1 skip is confirmed by reading the resolver; the double-post trigger is a rare cancellation window inherited from the pre-existing disposition flow, and its worst case is the notice staying blocked (status quo), not a new consumer-breaking regression. [auditable: repro unverifiable]

Summary
Confirmation review of the triage-approved PR #1928 (fixes #1919). The change makes dev-lead's own acknowledgement/disposition comments carry agent markers so the maintainer-comment gate stops counting them as fresh blockers, and plumbs the triggering comment's GraphQL node id (regex-validated) through intent → reusable workflow → fix-bot-comment prompt so notices are dispositioned by id instead of re-matching untrusted body text. Triage's low-risk assessment holds up; the workflow changes reduce injection surface rather than add one.
Linked issue analysis
Linked issue #1919 (closed by this PR) is substantively addressed:
- AC1 (markers on dev-lead's own comments):
review-changes.mdnow mandates<!-- dev-lead:check-fix -->on failing-check fix notes, andfix-bot-comment.mdgains a full non-actionable-notice section requiring a verified<!-- dev-lead:comment-disposition id=… -->on the ORIGINAL bot comment (correctly distinguishing registered clean-status re-posts, which are auto-cleared, from other notices, and forbidding aninformationaldisposition on pass-with-findings). - Regression guards: new
test_agent_marker_convention.batsties eachgh pr commentinstruction to its own marker (per-occurrence windows with claimed-marker bookkeeping, so one marked block cannot vouch for an unmarked sibling), plus gate-level AC3 tests intest_maintainer_comment_gate.batsincluding the exact unmarked-prose defect case. - Codex P1 hardening:
COMMENT_NODE_IDtravels from the webhook event (dev-lead-intent.shviajq --arg) throughdev-lead-reusable.yml(validated against^[-A-Za-z0-9_+/=]+$before export, failing loudly for fix-bot-comment when missing) into the prompt, so untrusted comment bodies are never interpolated into shell commands; a bats test asserts no fenced bash block referencesCOMMENT_BODY. - CI-gap closure:
lint.ymlpath filters gainprompts/**and the new bats file, with the template-drift exception documented in AGENTS.md.
Findings
No blocking findings.
- Workflow changes (
dev-lead-reusable.yml) add only env-to-env forwarding of a strictly validated node id; the regex excludes newlines/quotes, preventing GITHUB_ENV injection. Secrets lines in the diff are unchanged context. This is org-private automation logic, not a frozen caller stub. - Secret scan (MCP):
run_secret_scanningtool not available in this run — relying on the green gitleaks CI check; diff visually contains no credentials. - Note: $REVIEW_CYCLE=5 exceeds $MAX_REVIEW_CYCLES=3, but the orchestrator dispatched this run as a triage-approved confirmation review and the current head has an approving review (donpetry-bot) with all threads resolved, so this is not treated as a blocker.
- Note: the
CodeRabbitcommit status is stuck PENDING with no target URL, but CodeRabbit's actual review completed ("Comments resolved and changes approved") — advisory status, not a CI validator.
CI status
All validation checks green on 5a5f20278bf9dafc522e5c93695b84f2e6be0a45: lint/bats/shellcheck/actionlint, unit tests, CodeQL (python+actions), SonarCloud, gitleaks secret scan, AgentShield, and all repo policy gates (caller-stub-freeze, reusable-pin-compliance, toplevel-permissions, etc.) pass. The dev-lead / * and Dismiss CANCELLED entries are concurrency-superseded duplicates from a burst of four review events at 04:07 UTC; the latest runs (04:16 UTC) succeeded. 8 skipped checks are ecosystem-gated (dependency-audit) or intentionally gated (ci-relay). Problem
dev-lead's own unmarked acknowledgement comments block the approval they exist to unblock — 5 self-inflicted gate blockers on one PR
From the issue: dev-lead posts its acknowledgement of a non-actionable bot notice as a plain, unmarked PR issue comment. The maintainer-comment gate (#1290/#1813) classifies comments by marker, not by author — and dev-lead commits and comments as
don-petry, a human login. So each acknowledgement is indistinguishable from a maintainer finding and becomes a new undispositioned comment that blocks the very approval it was posted to unblock.Risk
