Defense Phase Confusion - Misinterpreted as Justification vs Testing

Problem

AI consistently misunderstands the "Defend" phase as "defend your decisions" rather than "write tests to defend against bugs and regressions."

"Claude then went on to the Defense step, and it wanted to create a new codev/defenses folder... I think Claude is understanding Defense as 'defend the decisions you have made' as opposed to 'defend against bugs and regressions by writing tests'"

Proposed Solution

• Rename to "Test" or "Fortify" phase
• Add explicit clarification in protocol
• Provide test-writing examples in templates

I have improved the documentation for the Defend phase and it seems Sonnet 4.5 has reduced this issues.
