multiple device/recordings support

[kwv]

I suspected QT would limit to one recording at a time, but hadn't tested it yet. I saw the changes in commit 823d365d3a to actively limit concurrent recordings.

Are you aware of any workarounds or alternatives?

Not that I'm aware of.

The active limit is so I can still use multiple devices and interleave the work they are doing if multiple need video capture at the same time (at least in my use case the devices only spend ~50% of their busy time actually recording video so it at least lets me double-up).

Technically we're not using QuickTime itself but the underlying framework they built for it appears to do the limiting (and device access only gets unlocked while quicktime is running - Apple did confirm that much for me).

I'm hoping there are better solutions in El Capitan but otherwise the only thing that comes to mind is implementing the protocol directly and that will be quite a bit of work (and not sure it's even possible since the stream is fairplay protected).
