Solargraph Gem: 0.18.3
Ruby Solargraph Plugin: 0.15.0
Ruby: ruby 2.5.1p57 (2018-03-29 revision 63029) [x86_64-darwin17]
Rails: 5.2.0 (Big Rails app with tons of rspec)

This issue happens just after boot of VSCode but the server does not starts, ps aux | grep solargraph give empty results so the server is not started

Does your workspace contain a .yardoc directory? I suspect that's causing the problem. You might be able to work around it by deleting or renaming it.

If that solves the problem, I'll have it fixed in the next version. The server should neither require a .yardoc directory nor need to modify it in the current workspace, although it should generate YARD documentation for installed gems if it doesn't already exist.

@castwide no there is no .yardoc directory in my project and after trying manually generate docs for gems with yard gems it raised an exception

Possibly. Solargraph uses YARD to provide completion and documentation for gems.

How big is your app, insofar as number of files and lines of code?

Pretty big, it's an API only app, so it contains ruby code only.

but this yard gems should not parse the project so the issue I'm referring to is only to gems.
Also, this Solargraph::Workspace error comes just from launch without any CPU loading, so I'm not sure if it's connected to yard

You're probably right about the Solargraph::Workspace error. Can you open VSCode without a folder, then open one Ruby file and see what happens? It should still be able to map the Ruby core library and the file itself.

Yes, it's able to get Ruby core intellisense, more other it works for the project with 2 small files:
bar.rb

  attr_reader :bar

  def initialize(bar)
    @bar = bar
  end
end

foo.rb

load './bar'

class Foo

  def initialize(foo)
    @foo = Bar.new(foo)
  end
end

and autocompletion works as expected

Thanks for checking. Although I haven't been able to reproduce the error in VSCode, I found a couple of issues with workspace handling that might be related to this one. The fixes will be included in the next gem update.

Version 0.19.1 has some fixes related to this issue. If you still get the Solargraph::Workspace error, please let me know if there are any error logs in the developer console.

after updating the behaviour of this issue is changed but it still present. Before it was raised on start and solargraph could not start, now it sends this Workspace exception in console.log on each autocompletion attempt.

Do you have runtime added to the plugins in your .solargraph.yml file? If so, try removing it.

The runtime plugin is experimental and badly in need of an update. It hasn't been tested properly with LSP.

Please let me know if that wasn't the case or the problem persists.

The only thing now is to fix that kind of issues:

don't you know what may cause it? as all gems autocompletion does not work, only local source intellisense is working as expected :)

That message indicates that Solargraph couldn't determine where the require path should point. It should find gem paths if YARD documentation exists for them. You can generate YARD docs for your installed gems by running yard gems from the command line. I suspect that will make most of those errors go away, and autocompletion should start working for gems.

In version 0.20.0, the extension will stop sending that message to the console, and notifications about undocumented require paths will be an option in diagnostics.
