Option to keep the dictation on the clipboard after pasting #200

Closed as not planned

Description

@eduwass

What are you trying to do?

I'm on macOS. I often need a dictation somewhere other than where it was pasted: the paste missed the text field, or I want to paste it into a second app. Right now Hex pastes and then restores my previous clipboard, so the transcript is gone and I have to open History to copy it.

The legacy Swift app had this as a setting (kitlangton/Hex#13), but it didn't come over to the Rust rewrite.

What would help?

A settings toggle like "Keep dictation on clipboard": Hex still pastes as it does today, but skips restoring the previous clipboard, so the transcript stays there afterwards. Off by default, so current behavior is unchanged.

Current workaround: a custom transformation in hex.config.ts that runs pbcopy about 1.5 s later, so it lands after the restore. It works, but there's a window where Cmd+V still gives the old clipboard.

Related: #192 (copy transcript when paste fails) and #168 (clipboard restore timing).

I'm not planning to open a PR for this, but I'd really appreciate it being considered as an option. Thanks for Hex!

    Thanks for reporting this! We're working on a brand-new version of Hex (rebuilt from the ground up), and it'll be out soon. This issue is about the current release, so we're closing it to keep the tracker focused on the new version. You can try the new dev build now — download links are in the README: https://github.com/anomalyco/hex#install-hex. If this still happens on the dev build, please open a new issue (or reply here) and we'll take a look.
