Description
Summary
The four research starter cards on the new-chat screen should be scoped to the workspace selected in the folder dropdown immediately above the message input. Currently, I am seeing content from two different projects mixed together in these cards, even though one specific workspace is selected.
Environment
- OpenResearch desktop 0.2.20
- macOS
- Simplified Chinese UI
- Multiple projects/workspaces available in the sidebar
Affected UI
On the “What should we research?” new-chat screen, the four cards are labeled in Chinese:
- 明确可检验的问题 — define a testable question
- 梳理近邻工作 — review related work
- 搭建分钟级基线 — build a quick baseline
- 运行首次低成本实验 — run a first low-cost experiment
The workspace selector is the folder dropdown directly above the composer, below these cards.
Observed behavior
With Project A selected in that dropdown, the starter-card prompts mix context/topics from Project A and a separate Project B. I expect these suggestions to help me start work in the selected project, but the mixed content makes it unclear which project's context the cards are using.
The project names and research prompt contents are omitted here to avoid publishing unrelated research details. This is a user-observed UI problem; I have not instrumented the application or established whether it comes from shared templates, stale state, caching, or suggestion generation. It is also not evidence that backend conversation context is being mixed.
Reproduction scenario
- Have two projects with distinct research contexts.
- Open the new-chat screen.
- Select Project A using the folder dropdown immediately above the message input.
- Inspect the four starter cards and the prompts they will insert or submit.
- Switch to Project B and inspect the cards again.
Please check that the displayed suggestions and their underlying prompts follow the selected workspace rather than retaining or combining another project's context. The exact sequence that originally produced the mixed content is not yet isolated.
Expected behavior / requested change
- Use the selected workspace's context for all four starter cards and their underlying prompts.
- When the selected workspace changes, refresh or load that workspace's own card content. Do not keep stale suggestions from the previously selected workspace.
- If card edits/customizations persist, keep project-specific content associated with the correct workspace. If globally shared templates are supported, make that scope explicit so users do not mistake them for workspace-specific suggestions.
- If the selected workspace has too little context, show neutral starter prompts or an appropriate empty/loading state instead of borrowing content from another project.
- Clicking a card should use the same workspace and prompt context that the user sees selected.
Acceptance check
Switch repeatedly between two unrelated projects: all four displayed cards, any edited card content, and the prompt used when clicking a card should remain consistent with the currently selected workspace, with no cross-project carryover.
