Migrating away from Deta

It looks like Deta is moving away from DBs and hosting.

Any plans to switch DB providers?

ah I actually caught the email of them retiring it some time ago
haven't gotten the time to switch it to a new db, plus I've been paying to run the server/domain for a while, so no plans
were you previously using the API?

I hadn't used the API before, no. I was looking for an API that hosts data about all possible courses at UCSC (not just the current term's), so I cloned your repo to see if yours did. I can't run anything though because of the Deta key check.

I guess you can answer my question – does your API host this data?

@njerig Super super late my bad - Yes the API scrapes, beautifies, and hosts the data

Project has long been retired, and Deta Cloud is a database service that also long discontinued before I even retired this project lol

But you could probably steal my code that scrapes and beautifies it since looking at the class search tool, seems like the HTML is the same and would function (roughly)

Honestly if I were to redo all this, I would not use BeautifulSoup scraping, would use an AI Agent-based web crawling service, might cost you API credits but there's lightweight models out there that do the work for dirt cheap
