I think this issue is basically back. It's happening with some code bases, not all of them.

I am investigating this issue. Based on the reference to #5516, this appears to be a regression of the VS Code crash during indexing caused by deletePointsByMultipleFilePaths failures in the Qdrant vector store. I will examine the codebase to identify the root cause and implement a fix with proper error handling, backoff logic, and request size limits.

I have successfully implemented a comprehensive fix for the VS Code crash during indexing. The solution addresses the root cause of the deletePointsByMultipleFilePaths failures that were causing extension host crashes.

📋 Key Improvements Implemented:

1. Request Size Limits: Added MAX_DELETE_PATHS_PER_REQUEST = 100 to prevent oversized requests
2. Chunking Support: Large file path arrays are automatically split into manageable chunks
3. Retry Logic: Implemented exponential backoff (500ms → 1000ms → 2000ms) for failed operations
4. Error Handling: Added comprehensive error handling with contextual messages
5. Telemetry: Added monitoring for deletion failures and retry patterns
6. Crash Prevention: Graceful error handling prevents extension host crashes

🧪 Testing:

• Added comprehensive test suite covering all error scenarios
• Tests validate chunking, retry logic, and error handling
• CI checks are currently running to ensure compatibility

I can confirm a crash, to reproduce, clone the llama.cpp github (https://github.com/ggml-org/llama.cpp) and try to index it. Fails under both Gemini -> gemini-text-embedding and LMStudio -> snowflake-arctic-l-v2.0
