Pull request list and detail responses can opt into review-decision and check-state summaries with include_tracking=true. Reviews use the same branch policy as merging, including the trunk for stacked pulls, with batched loading so clients can track policy and check state efficiently.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Pull request APIs can optionally include review decisions and checks status with include_tracking=true.
    • Added support for stacked pull request metadata and operations.
    • The API settings response now advertises pull-tracking summaries.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Merge protection now ignores dismissed official review requests.
    • Review and approval results more accurately reflect the latest valid reviews and protected branch policies.
    • Stacked pull request conflicts now return a clear HTTP 409 response across relevant operations.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The change adds stack-aware pull request review and check summaries. It resolves protected policy branches, computes review and check states, exposes optional tracking fields, and maps stacked conflicts to HTTP 409.

Changes

Pull request tracking

Layer / File(s) Summary
Review policy evaluation
models/issues/..., services/issue/pull.go, models/issues/review_test.go
Review helpers count valid approvals, detect blocking reviews and requests, ignore dismissed requests, and normalize supplied code-owner reviews.
Tracking aggregation
models/issues/stack.go, services/pull/tracking.go, services/pull/tracking_test.go
The pull service resolves stack policy branches, loads reviews and commit statuses, and computes review decisions and check states.

Pull responses conditionally include nullable tracking fields, and the settings response exposes the pull-tracking-summary feature.
Stack conflict responses
routers/api/v1/repo/pull.go
Pull request operations return HTTP 409 for stacked conflicts. Auto-merge scheduling returns unwrapped user-facing errors with their status.

Estimated code review effort: 4 (Complex) | ~45 minutes

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 2b7d4

This change adds optional pull-request tracking fields to API responses, but the generated API specifications may not describe the new contract. Clients relying on generated specifications could miss or mishandle the feature, so this should be resolved before merge.

Two P2 blockers at c0ac9d346c0de676237b70670ed100386eeda4a0, independently confirmed by Fable 5.1:

  • The generated API specifications omit include_tracking, review_decision, and checks_state at this head. Their generated additions currently live in feat(api): open pull requests reverting recorded merges #12. Regenerate and commit the specifications here so this PR is independently complete, then update the dependent branch normally.
  • When combined with the native stacks now on rtvision, services/pull/tracking.go:70 selects protection with GetFirstMatched(pr.BaseBranch), while stack merge policy resolves the trunk. An upper layer targeting an unprotected feature branch can report review_decision: null even though trunk approval requirements block its merge. Resolve the same policy branch for tracking, preserving batched loading, and cover that case.

The policy mismatch is a cross-stack integration defect. Focused tests passed on the isolated API stack; they do not exercise this combination. Fable does not agree to merge this head.

Merge decision: NO-GO. Codex code review: NO-GO at c0ac9d346c0de676237b70670ed100386eeda4a0.

The generated Swagger and OpenAPI documents omit include_tracking, review_decision, and checks_state; regenerate them in this PR instead of #12. Also, services/pull/tracking.go:70 matches protection against pr.BaseBranch, while native stack merge policy on rtvision resolves the trunk: upper layers can report no review requirement while trunk policy blocks merging. Use the same policy branch resolution and cover that combination. The focused review-decision unit test passed. TestAPIExposedSettings fails at this head as well: it expects four features, while the API now returns six. Update that expectation here.

Fable 5.1 (claude-fable-5-1) was invoked through Claude CLI, but hit its session limit before returning fresh verdicts. No fresh Fable approval is claimed. CodeRabbit was asked to review this head; no explicit APPROVED review is present, and its active API-branch configuration reports reviews.request_changes_workflow: false. Enable that workflow and obtain approval after blockers are resolved. No merge performed.

Repaired at 3a7c62b20b459bd3f0246f480c4c63f5211027b8. Tracking and merge now share batched trunk-policy resolution; both API specifications and the settings expectation are fixed. Go lint, tracking/list/settings integration coverage, and the policy regression tests pass. Codex and Fable 5.1: GO.

The latest-review finding was verified against actual review submission: SubmitReview clears prior official flags, so both merge gates and tracking exclude superseded decisions. TestTrackingStackPolicyAndSupersededReviews submits reject → approve → reject and checks summary/merge agreement. CODEOWNERS already reduces reviews with the same latest-review semantics as its merge gate. Adding a second filter would change that policy unnecessarily.

@kalvenschraut I cannot approve this head.

The API specification fix is present. Both generated specifications contain include_tracking, review_decision, and checks_state.

The tracking fix is present. GetPullRequestTrackingSummaries uses ResolvePullRequestPolicyBranches. The regression test covers an unprotected intermediate base branch and a protected stack trunk.

The superseded-review evidence is valid. SubmitReview clears prior official flags for the reviewer. The test verifies reject → approve → reject and compares tracking results with merge-policy results.

One blocker remains in models/issues/stack.go. ResolvePullRequestPolicyBranches joins stack_branch_claim to pull_request_stack but does not filter for pull_request_stack.state = StackStateOpen. Terminal transitions retain the claim rows as history and only re-key branch_key. The query selects by pull_request_id, so it still resolves a completed or unstacked stack to its old TrunkBranch.

Filter policy resolution to open stacks. Add a regression test that confirms a completed and an unstacked stack resolve to pr.BaseBranch.

@kalvenschraut I verified the repairs on 776866361566c2961e175b8ca0b695f0771312fa.

The generated Swagger 2 and OpenAPI 3 specifications include include_tracking, review_decision, and checks_state.

Tracking now resolves policy branches in batch form. It matches each rule against the resolved stack trunk branch. TestTrackingStackPolicyAndSupersededReviews covers an unprotected intermediate branch and a protected trunk.

The superseded-review finding does not apply. SubmitReview clears the reviewer’s previous official flags in the same transaction. Tracking and merge use equivalent predicates for official, dismissed, stale, approval, rejection, and review-request checks. The reject → approve → reject test verifies the resulting tracking decision and merge predicates.

One blocker remains. ResolvePullRequestPolicyBranches in models/issues/stack.go uses historical StackBranchClaim rows without filtering pull_request_stack.state = StackStateOpen. Terminal transitions retain and re-key these claims. A completed or unstacked stack can therefore still apply its former trunk policy instead of the pull request base branch.

Do not approve this PR until the resolver ignores terminal stacks and regression coverage verifies that behavior.

@kalvenschraut I reviewed current head 776866361566c2961e175b8ca0b695f0771312fa.

The API specification, tracking policy-branch, and superseded-review fixes are present.

I cannot approve this pull request.

ResolvePullRequestPolicyBranches in models/issues/stack.go still does not limit the pull_request_stack join to StackStateOpen. Completed and unstacked stacks retain historical StackBranchClaim records. The resolver can therefore apply the former stack TrunkBranch instead of PullRequest.BaseBranch.

Filter the resolver query with pull_request_stack.state = StackStateOpen. Add regression coverage for both StackStateComplete and StackStateUnstacked to confirm that each resolves to PullRequest.BaseBranch.

Verified the terminal-stack finding and fixed it in 2b7d4da0bb. Only open stacks supply trunk policy; dangling claims still return the existing missing-stack error. The existing membership test now covers re-keyed claims for completed and unstacked stacks plus missing-stack corruption. That test, tracking regression coverage, and Go lint pass. Fable is reviewing this final repair.

Codex and Fable 5.1: GO at 2b7d4da0bb82e96fdf905a0a4844759f3b41cc3d. Fable independently verified the terminal-claim lifecycle, SQL condition grouping, preserved corruption errors, and both terminal-state regression cases. Focused policy/tracking tests and Go lint pass. Awaiting CodeRabbit approval before merge.

@kalvenschraut Verified on 2b7d4da0bb82e96fdf905a0a4844759f3b41cc3d.

ResolvePullRequestPolicyBranches now uses TrunkBranch only when pull_request_stack.state = StackStateOpen.

The LEFT JOIN preserves the dangling-claim case. The resolver still returns ErrStackNotExist when the stack row is missing.

TestStackMembershipPolicyAndRevision verifies that re-keyed claims from StackStateComplete and StackStateUnstacked resolve to PullRequest.BaseBranch. It also verifies the missing-stack error.

The terminal-stack finding is resolved. I found no remaining blocker in the inspected changes.

Learning: In `models/issues/stack.go`, `ResolvePullRequestPolicyBranches` must use `PullRequestStack.TrunkBranch` only for stacks in `StackStateOpen`. Completed and unstacked stacks retain re-keyed `StackBranchClaim` history, so their pull requests must resolve to `PullRequest.BaseBranch`. A dangling `StackBranchClaim` with no `PullRequestStack` must continue to return `ErrStackNotExist`.
