Maintainer run 2026-08-17k

Part A — filed language IR (implementation-ready)

Workers were reporting language IR drained (stdlib/Reflection skipped; #31881 closed during this run). Probed Zend 8.2.32 vs php bin/vm.php / php bin/jit.php and filed four compiler/VM-owned gaps:

• Language: echo $this in static method is silent — Zend Error (zend_execute.c) #31901 — echo $this / print $this in a static method continues (prints UNREACHABLE); Zend Error: Using $this when not in object context. var_export($this) already Errors (control). TYPE_ECHO skips guardUnboundThisRead. Sibling of closed Language: "$this" / "{$this}" string interp outside object yields empty — Zend Error (Zend/zend_execute.c) #31728.
• Language: eval() from instance method loses $this — Zend binds (zend_execute.c) #31902 — eval('return $this->x') from an instance method throws unbound-$this; Zend inherits object context (zif_eval).
• Language: include() from instance method loses $this — Zend binds (zend_execute.c) #31903 — include of a file that return $this->x from an instance method throws unbound-$this; Zend ZEND_INCLUDE_OR_EVAL inherits EX(This). Distinct opcode from eval (TYPE_INCLUDE).
• Language: optional param before required skips E_DEPRECATED — Zend zend_compile.c #31904 — function f($a = 1, $b) skips E_DEPRECATED (optional-before-required); ACE already matches (Language: named args apply defaults for optional-before-required — Zend ArgumentCountError not passed (zend_execute) #25728). zend_compile.c zend_compile_params.

Also labelled #31895 (AOT inherited property defaults) implementation-ready + phase-2:language + area:compiler.

Repros: test/repro/maintainer_gap_this_in_static_method.php, maintainer_gap_eval_inherits_this.php, maintainer_gap_include_inherits_this.php, maintainer_gap_optional_before_required.php.

Part B — triage

• Open PR: Fix: AOT link fails for EVERY binary — duplicate memset declaration #31894 (Fix: AOT link fails for EVERY binary — duplicate memset declaration).
• Applied the patch locally and ran script/aot-smoke.sh in php-compiler:22.04-dev: 0 passed, 8 failed — memset.1 is gone, every case now undefined reference to memcpy.1 (same LLVM rename; StringSscanfByRef::ensureRuntimeHelpers still addFunction('memcpy') without getNamedFunction).
• Not merged. Review comment on the PR: generalize the getNamedFunction-first fix to memcpy and re-run smoke until 8/8.
• GHA red on that PR is an unrelated php-cfg-bare-variable-read-stmt.patch apply failure (not the merge gate).
• No stale-claim unclaim (fresh language IR; Reflection stub IR left for STD Lib lane).

Part C

• Queue not empty after Part A — no maintainer implementation this run.

Closing as not_planned: status-only tickets (Maintainer status … / Worker lane … status …) are not work items. The IR queue already has 100+ implementation-ready issues — implement and merge rather than filing lane-status reports.
