What & why

Fixes #9452.

connecting was set only after await ptyDaemonSocketPath(), so two first callers each opened a connection and one was never disposed. The in-flight promise is now set before the first await.

Left out (already there before): disposeDaemonClient() during a connect can let the old finally clear a newer connecting. Only tests and shutdown call it.

How I tested it

Failing regression test with a fake socket server through the existing SUPERSET_PTY_DAEMON_SOCKET override, fix on top. The bug was first found by checking every order of events in a small model, then reproduced against the real code.

  • packages/host-service: bun run test gives 2755 pass, 0 fail.

Checklist

  • PR title follows conventional commits (type(scope): subject)
  • bun run lint and bun run typecheck pass (CI fails on lint warnings too)
  • "Allow edits from maintainers" is checked on fork PRs
  • I have signed the CLA (the bot asks on your first PR)

Summary by cubic

Fixes #9452. getDaemonClient() now shares a single in-flight connect, so concurrent first callers no longer open duplicate daemon connections where one is never cached or disposed.

  • The in-flight promise is set before the first await instead of after resolving the socket path.
  • A connect that outlives disposeDaemonClient() no longer replaces the newer cached client, and its failure can no longer duplicate the fresher connect.
  • A failed connect disposes its partially initialized client so later attempts still succeed.
  • Adds regression tests using a fake socket server covering all three cases.

Written for commit 1cbe0d5. Summary will update on new commits.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved reliability when multiple requests connect to the terminal daemon at the same time, ensuring they share a single connection.
    • Improved recovery after connection failures so later attempts can connect successfully.
    • Prevented a connection attempt started before disposal from replacing a newer client after reconnection.

…nections

connecting is assigned only after awaiting the socket path, so two first
callers both pass the in-flight check and each open a DaemonClient. One
of them is never cached or disposed.
Assign connecting before the first await, so every caller that arrives
while a connect is in flight joins it. Before, each first caller opened
its own DaemonClient and only the last one was cached.

Walkthrough

Concurrent calls to getDaemonClient() share a connection attempt. The singleton updates its cached client and in-flight promise only when the attempt remains current. Tests cover concurrent callers and disposal while a connection is pending.

Changes: Daemon client singleton

Layer / File(s) Summary
Share connections and protect client state
packages/host-service/src/terminal/daemon-client-singleton.ts, packages/host-service/src/terminal/daemon-client-singleton.test.ts
getDaemonClient() caches a successful client and clears the in-flight promise only if its attempt is still current. connectDaemonClient disposes the client and rethrows if connection fails. Tests check that concurrent callers share one connection and that a delayed connection does not replace a newer client after disposal and reconnection.

Explanation

The description includes the required sections, issue link, and test results. It says the disposal race is left out, but the changes also guard against an older connection attempt clearing a newer one. Update that statement.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

[#9452] getDaemonClient() sets connecting before socket-path resolution can complete. Concurrent first callers therefore share one connection. The regression test asserts one accepted socket and the same client for both callers. Failed connections are disposed.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

[#9452] The connection refactor and regression test support the singleton fix. The new identity checks and disposal-race test protect the same connection lifecycle. They do not introduce unrelated changes.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 2 functions across 2 files.

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Add a retry check after a shared connection failure.

The test covers only successful connections. If a rejected connecting promise remains cached, later calls can reject without starting a new connection. Add a test that rejects concurrent callers, then verifies a successful retry without calling disposeDaemonClient() first.
