fix(desktop): open chat tabs where chats are created, and fix tab order, popover and chat scroll - #9344
In Chat mode, a new workspace opened with "Workspace Setup" first and selected, and the agent's chat second. The create flow dropped chat launches. The chat only appeared later, when useAutoAdoptChatSessions found it as an orphan and added a background tab. That hook polled sessions and guessed which panes to open.
What / How
Local create:appendLaunchesToPaneLayout writes the chat (or terminal agent) tab first and selects it. The host returns an optional chatAgentId on agent results. For an older host, the desktop reads the agent from sessions.get by the exact session id. If a create times out but the row exists, the launched agents are read back from the host's agent bindings.
panes.newTab takes sessionId and focus. The host resolves the chat's agent and terminal, and sends them in a separate chat field of the op. A desktop that predates it then rejects the op, instead of opening a terminal pane on the chat's id. A chat that already has a pane is reused. CLI: superset panes new-tab --session ID [--focus].
Other creators ask for a tab after they start a chat: CLI sessions create/import/resume, relay automation dispatch, and the mobile new-session sheet. Each call is best-effort and opens the tab in the background.
Removed: orphan adoption, latestOpenChatSessions, and the closed-terminal bookkeeping that only kept adoption from reopening chats.
Part 2: Cloud chats bind by terminal id
The composer sends agentTerminalId with cloudWorkspace.create. It travels as SUPERSET_SANDBOX_AGENT_TERMINAL_ID, and the sandbox host starts the chat (or the terminal it falls back to) under that id. The launch descriptor echoes it as terminalId.
The pending pane binds itself to the session or terminal with that exact id, and still releases to a plain chat at the 3-minute deadline. Background terminal adoption now treats the promised terminal as attached, so a terminal fallback does not open twice.
The id is carried in sandboxIdentitySchema (sandbox.conf) and in superset-boot's host-service env list. CI's boot test caught both, because they would have dropped it silently.
Deleted useAutoAdoptChatSessions: prompt-hash matching, first-prompt reads, backoff polling, and the closed-launch tracking.
Chat: scroll position not kept when returning to a session #9312:useCarriedReaderPosition saves the reader position by session id in a layout cleanup, before React detaches the DOM. The existing restore path uses it. It is kept in memory and capped at 50 sessions.
Manual QA (dev desktop, driven over CDP with real input)
Each fix was reproduced on main first, then checked on this branch with the same journey.
Chat tabs
New workspace with a prompt in Chat mode: the chat tab is first and selected, and Setup is second. (main: Setup first and selected.)
CLI sessions create: a background tab is added and the selected tab does not change.
panes new-tab --session … --focus on the same session reuses its tab and selects it.
A session created with no tab request gets no tab, so adoption is gone.
Cloud binding (against the real local host; the pending pane was seeded as setup)
A chat under a different terminal id does not bind (control case).
A chat started under the promised id binds in about 1 s, in the same tab.
A terminal started under the promised id becomes the pane. Before the background-adoption fix, this showed two tabs.
Narrow window: open the floating popover in A, switch to B from the sidebar, then back to A. It is open again. Outside click and Escape still close it.
Chat scrolled to the middle (scrollTop 900): the same position after a tab switch, and after a workspace switch. (main: back at the bottom.)
Testing
Typecheck: desktop, host-service, trpc, cli, and mobile (through turbo).
bun test: trpc, shared, and cli all pass. Desktop has 9222 passing and 2 failing in browser-extension bundle tests that this PR does not touch. host-service has 22 naming tests that fail only in a full-suite run (they pass alone), plus a health test that reads this cloud box's real boot stamps.
Biome is clean.
Known Limitations
Not tested end to end: the sandbox boot launching under the promised id, and composer → API → pending pane against a real cloud sandbox. Both are covered by unit tests (createChatSessionInWorkspace with a terminal id, the env round trip, and the descriptor). The Sandbox workflow's real-sandbox run on this branch is the way to check them.
A chat started by a client this PR does not update (for example another window's own flow) appears only in chat history now.
The deadline release is covered only by unit tests.
Compatibility
Every tRPC change is additive. panes.newTab.terminalId becomes optional, and a call with neither or both ids is BAD_REQUEST, the same code a missing terminalId gave. New optional fields: sessionId, focus, agentTerminalId, chatAgentId, and the descriptor's terminalId. promptHash stays in the descriptor for released desktops.
New host + old desktop: a chat newTab op gets a clean 400, and callers ignore it.
New desktop + old remote host: chatAgentId falls back to sessions.get.
Deployment / Rollout
The API deploys on merge (it adds agentTerminalId).
Rebuild the sandbox image and publish the bundle before the desktop release (the bundle-touching merge runs production-release). The id reaches the box through sandbox.conf and the boot runner (superset-boot), and a fresh box runs the runner from the image. On an old image or host, the pending pane waits until the deadline, and the launched chat is only reachable from history.
Desktop release.
Rollback
Revert the PR. No migrations. The API fields are optional, so released clients are unaffected either way.
Follow-ups
Terminals have the same adoption pattern (useAutoAdoptBackgroundSessions).
Add a router test for the host's panes.newTabsessionId branch.
Summary by cubic
Fixes chat tabs so they come from whoever creates the chat, and fixes tab order, the activity popover, and chat scroll restoration.
Behavior changes
Chat tabs are opened by the creator (desktop create flow, CLI sessions commands, mobile new-session sheet); the orphan-adoption hook is removed. Cloud chats bind by an exact terminal id instead of a hash of the first prompt, so the pending pane attaches to the launched chat or terminal without matching prompts. The floating activity popover keeps its open state per workspace and no longer closes when switching workspaces via the sidebar. Chat scroll position is saved on unmount and restored on remount, capped at 50 sessions.
Notes for review
panes.newTab now accepts sessionId and focus; the host resolves the chat's terminal and agent, and a desktop that predates the op rejects it instead of opening a terminal pane. A focused newTab in the sidebar shows the sidebar, and panes new-tab --sidebar --session checks for sidebar support like the terminal path. The pending cloud chat pane fetches the full session page so a busy workspace doesn't hide the promised session. Tab requests from the CLI, mobile, and automations, plus agent launch recovery, log unexpected failures while staying quiet when no desktop is attached or the host is too old. The chat agent lookup on workspace create retries before giving up. All tRPC changes are additive. SUPERSET_SANDBOX_AGENT_TERMINAL_ID now reaches the box — both sandbox.conf and superset-boot previously dropped it — so publish a sandbox bundle with this host-service before the desktop release. Not tested end to end: the sandbox boot launch under the promised id and the composer-to-API-to-pane path, which are covered by unit tests.
Written for commit 985b729. Summary will update on new commits.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Chat sessions created, imported, resumed, or launched by automation can open in a desktop workspace tab.
The CLI can open chat sessions in tabs and optionally focus them.
Workspace creation can recover agent launches after timeouts, and pending launches can resolve to a chat or terminal tab.
Agent launches can appear as chat or terminal tabs in the workspace.
Bug Fixes
Activity popovers stay open when interacting with the workspace sidebar.
Chat reader position is retained across pane unmounts.
Opening an existing chat session reuses its current tab.
The host launches an independent agent before the setup terminal (#7041),
but appendLaunchesToPaneLayout put terminals first, so Workspace Setup took
tab 1. Agents now come first and the first tab stays selected and focused.
A wait-for-setup chained agent still collapses to one tab with the setup
label.
Fixes#9260
The local create pipeline dropped chat launches, and the chat only appeared
when useAutoAdoptChatSessions later found it as an orphan: as a background
tab after Workspace Setup, with Setup selected.
appendLaunchesToPaneLayout now writes a chat-v3 tab for a chat launch, first
and selected, like a terminal agent. The host returns the chat agent's preset
id as an optional chatAgentId on agent results; for an older host the desktop
reads it from sessions.get by the exact session id. A launch whose terminal or
session already has a pane is not added again.
Part of #9260
panes.newTab accepts a sessionId as well as a terminalId, plus an optional
focus to select the new tab. The host resolves the chat's agent and terminal
from the session and sends them in a separate chat field of the newTab op, so a
desktop that predates it rejects the op instead of opening a terminal pane on
the chat's id. A chat that already has a pane is reused. The CLI gets
`superset panes new-tab --session ID` and --focus.
All inputs are additive: terminalId becomes optional, and a call with neither
or both is BAD_REQUEST, the code a missing terminalId already gave.
Whoever starts a chat session now also asks for its tab, instead of the
desktop finding it later: the CLI after sessions create, import and resume,
relay automation dispatch after its launch, and the mobile new-session sheet.
Each is best-effort and in the background, so a host with no desktop, or one
too old for chat tabs, only leaves the chat without a tab.
useAutoAdoptChatSessions added a background tab for any live chat without a
pane. Every creator now opens its own tab, so that path, its
latestOpenChatSessions util and the closed-terminal bookkeeping that only
kept it from reopening chats are removed. When a workspace create times out
but the row exists, the launched agents are read back from the host's agent
bindings by exact id instead of being left to adoption.
The pending cloud chat binding stays until the cloud launch carries an exact
id.
…erminal id
cloudWorkspace.create takes an optional agentTerminalId. It travels with the
launch to the sandbox (SUPERSET_SANDBOX_AGENT_TERMINAL_ID), where host-service
starts the chat, or the terminal it falls back to, under that id. The launch
descriptor echoes it as terminalId, so the creator can open the agent's pane
by an exact id instead of matching sessions by a hash of the first prompt.
All additive: promptHash stays in the descriptor for released desktops, and
the terminal id option on the host launch functions is internal, not tRPC
input.
The composer now promises the terminal id the box launches under, and the
pending pane binds itself to the chat (or terminal) that starts with that
exact id, then releases to a plain chat at the deadline as before.
This removes useAutoAdoptChatSessions entirely: its prompt-hash matching,
first-prompt outline reads, backoff polling and the closed-launch
bookkeeping. A pending pane without a promised id, which only an API that
predates agentTerminalId produces, is released right away.
The floating popover's open state was component-local useState, so it reset
when the workspace view remounted. It also closed on the sidebar click that
switches workspaces, because Radix treats that as an outside interaction.
The open state now lives in activityPanelStore per workspace, like the docked
panel's hidden state, and outside clicks on the workspace sidebar no longer
close the popover.
Fixes#9311
A chat pane is unmounted when you switch tab or workspace, and the rebuilt
transcript always opened at the bottom. Nothing saved the reader position
except the resume path.
useCarriedReaderPosition now saves the position by session id in a layout
cleanup (before the DOM is detached), and the existing restore path uses it
on remount. The in-memory store is capped at 50 sessions, oldest dropped.
Fixes#9312
A pending cloud chat whose launch fell back to a terminal turns into that
terminal's pane. Background terminal adoption only counted terminal panes
as attached, so it also opened the terminal as a second tab before the
pending pane could claim it. The pending pane's promised terminal now counts
as attached.
Document SUPERSET_SANDBOX_AGENT_TERMINAL_ID as an internal first-boot
variable, give resolveChatAgentIds and recoverAgentLaunches their own
folders, and drop comments the code already says.
The changes add terminal-ID-based agent launches and desktop chat-tab requests across host, CLI, mobile, and automation flows. Pending cloud-chat panes resolve to chat or terminal panes. The desktop also stores activity-popover state per workspace and retains transcript reader positions across unmounts.
Cloud launch data and sandbox identity now carry an optional terminal UUID. Workspace creation supplies that ID. The pane operation schema accepts chat-session details and an optional focus flag.
Host launch paths pass supplied terminal IDs to chat or terminal launches. The panes endpoint accepts a chat session or terminal ID. Layout operations build or reuse chat panes and apply requested focus and area settings.
Workspace launch recovery and pane assembly apps/desktop/src/renderer/stores/workspace-creates/*
Workspace creation can recover active agent launches from the host, resolve missing chat-agent IDs, and add chat or terminal panes. Existing terminal and session IDs are checked when avoiding duplicate tabs.
Pending pane data now uses a promised terminal ID. A hook evaluates chat sessions and terminal bindings, then attaches a matching chat or terminal pane, waits until a deadline, or releases the pending pane. The prior auto-adoption hook and launch and terminal closure tracking are removed.
CLI commands can open chat sessions in desktop tabs, and session commands report whether the tab opened. Mobile session flows and automation chat launches also request desktop tabs.
Workspace Activity Popover

Reader position storage and unmount handling apps/desktop/.../useCarriedReaderPosition.ts, apps/desktop/.../carriedReaderPosition/*
The transcript stores its reader position during layout-effect cleanup when the reader is away from the end. Position storage clears null entries and keeps at most 50 positions.
ParadevAI/Paradev#9368: The change replaces prompt-based adoption with terminal-ID matching, but the issue's resumed-session replacement recovery case is not shown to be fixed.
ParadevAI/Paradev#9037: CLI session flows now request desktop tabs, but the reported stale-host cause is not shown to be fixed.
Some created chats can fail to appear in their intended tabs, particularly during timeout recovery or when a chat ends before its pane resolves. Address those paths and ensure the updated sandbox image is released before merging.

Explanation
The title "fix(desktop): open chat tabs where chats are created, and fix tab order, popover and chat scroll" follows conventional commit format and matches the main change. The PR creates chat tabs from the creator (the primary change, linked to #9260), and also covers the activity popover and chat scroll fixes, which the title names. Some sub-changes (cloud terminal-ID binding, removal of useAutoAdoptChatSessions) are not named, which is acceptable because the title need not cover every detail. The title is long at 96 characters, but it is specific and accurate.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template's main sections: "What & why" (Part 1-3 and the problem statement), "How I tested it" (Manual QA and Testing sections), and a checklist-like area is partly covered by the Testing section, which mentions typecheck and Biome. It links issues (#9260, #9311, #9312) and states the conventional-commit title. However, the template's checklist items are not explicitly ticked, the CLA and maintainer-edit items are not addressed, and the description does not state whether bun run lint and bun run typecheck ran in CI, only that typecheck and Biome were run locally. The description also includes a cubic-generated summary block. Overall it is mostly complete.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Three active direct issues apply: #9260, #9311, and #9312. All three have coding requirements.
[#9260] Agent tab first, in creation order. appendLaunchesToPaneLayout.ts places agent launches before terminal launches. It focuses the first launch and restores that tab as active. For chat launches with a session ID and agent ID, it creates a chat-v3 pane. appendLaunchesToPaneLayout.test.ts expects an independent agent launch before Workspace Setup and selected. The issue's expected order is met. The dropped role: "setup" field is not restored, but the ordering no longer depends on it.
[#9311] Activity popover stays open after switching workspaces. WorkspaceActivityMenu.tsx moves the floating open state from local useState to activityPanelStore, keyed by workspaceId. activityPanelStore.test.ts covers the per-workspace key. Clicks on targets inside the data-workspace-sidebar attribute no longer dismiss the popover. Outside click and Escape still close it. No unit test covers the sidebar guard. The author reports a CDP run of this journey.
[#9312] Chat scroll position kept on return. useCarriedReaderPosition saves the reader position in a layout cleanup, before DOM detach. It calls keepReaderPosition keyed by session ID. carriedReaderPosition.test.ts covers eviction at MAX_CARRIED_POSITIONS (50) and clearing with null. The author reports scrollTop 900 kept after tab and workspace switches.
Unresolved uncertainty: the reviewer could not render the workspace view on the review box. Runtime behavior for #9260 ordering, #9311, and #9312 rests on unit tests and the author's CDP report. This does not show a missing coding requirement. The code and tests support compliance. Manual QA steps are non-coding and are not assessed. No repository inspection was made in this assessment.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes for #9260, #9311, and #9312 are in scope. These are: the agent-first launch ordering in appendLaunchesToPaneLayout.ts and its tests; the popover state in activityPanelStore, WorkspaceActivityMenu.tsx, and the WORKSPACE_SIDEBAR_ATTRIBUTE guard; and the scroll memory in carriedReaderPosition.ts and useCarriedReaderPosition.ts.
The PR also includes work that no linked issue requires. The PR description presents these as separate features:
Removal of useAutoAdoptChatSessions and its fixtures, tests, and utils (latestOpenChatSessions, unresolvedPollDelay, initialCloudChatPrompt). Also removal of closedChatSessions cloud-launch and terminal-closed helpers, and related changes in useSurfaceFork, useUndoableChatClose, focusChatSession, usePaneRegistry, and WorkspaceAgentEffects. None of the linked issues asks for adoption to be removed. The issues can be met by the creator-side ordering and by the popover and scroll fixes.
Cloud chat binding by terminal ID. This covers usePendingCloudChatLaunch, pendingLaunchOutcome, attachCloudTerminal, PendingCloudChatPaneData.terminalId, PENDING_CLOUD_CHAT_POLL_MS, backgroundTerminals, useSubmitWorkspace agentTerminalId, and cloud-workspace.ts agentTerminalId. None of the linked issues mentions cloud chats.
Sandbox plumbing for SUPERSET_SANDBOX_AGENT_TERMINAL_ID. This covers sandbox-contract.ts, cloud-agent-launch.ts, superset-boot, sandbox-self-seed.ts, and docs/environment-variables.md. These serve item 2 only.
External tab-opening behavior. This covers CLI sessions create, import, and resume; the panes new-tab --session and --focus options; mobile NewSessionSheet and openDesktopChatTab; and automation dispatch and hostSession with openTab: true. The PR description calls these new creator behaviors. No linked issue requests them.
Host and tRPC API changes for panes.newTab (sessionId, focus, XOR id rule), pane-layout-ops newTab chat payload, createChatSessionInWorkspace terminalId, and runAgentInWorkspace terminalId. These support items 1 to 4, not the three issues.
Gray zone: chatAgentId in agent results, recoverAgentLaunches, and resolveChatAgentIds may support the chat-v3 pane creation that #9260 needs. The PR does not state that link. Without that statement, these are not established as in scope.
The PR does not link items 1 to 5 to any linked issue requirement. Items 1 to 4 also change behavior for existing clients. The reviewer reports that mobile workspace creation, cloud automations, and workspaces opened from another client may no longer receive a tab.
Resolution
Split the unrelated work into separate pull requests. Keep in this PR only: the launch-order change in appendLaunchesToPaneLayout.ts and its tests; the popover store and WorkspaceActivityMenu.tsx and WORKSPACE_SIDEBAR_ATTRIBUTE changes; and the scroll memory in carriedReaderPosition and useCarriedReaderPosition with their tests. Move or remove items 1 to 5. If the chat-v3 creator path and the agent-result fields (chatAgentId, recoverAgentLaunches, resolveChatAgentIds) stay, state in the PR description which #9260 requirement needs them. If adoption removal stays, state in the PR description why #9260 requires it. If CLI, mobile, or automation tab-opening stays, state which linked issue requires it.

…-service
SUPERSET_SANDBOX_AGENT_TERMINAL_ID was dropped twice on the way to the box:
sandboxIdentitySchema stripped it when the control plane rendered
sandbox.conf, and superset-boot starts host-service with env -i and an
explicit key list that did not name it. So a real sandbox would never have
launched under the promised id. Both now carry it, and a test checks that
every launch variable is a sandbox.conf key.
superset-boot runs from the image on a fresh box, so this reaches new cloud
workspaces once the image is rebuilt.

Review at 9ea431a21: minor issues. The design is right: the creator opens the tab, and the binding uses an exact terminal id. The terminal-id drop (sandbox.conf + superset-boot) is fixed in 9ea431a21, and I re-checked it.
Medium: the rollout needs an image release, not only a bundle. superset-boot:159 runs from the image on a box's first boot, which is when the agent launches. Until bun run release pushes the image, new cloud chats lose the id: the pending pane waits 3 min (pendingLaunchOutcome.ts:45), and the real chat shows up only in history.
Medium: with adoption gone, creators this PR does not update get no tab. Examples: mobile workspace create with a host chat (useCreateTerminalWorkspace.ts:152), cloud automations (cloudDispatch.ts:101), and cloud workspaces opened from another client. Suggestion: open the tab in the host where it starts the chat (agents.ts:742launchChatAgent), or list these flows as known limitations.
Low: a chat launch with an unresolved agent is dropped silently (appendLaunchesToPaneLayout.ts:74).
Low: pending panes saved before the upgrade (no terminalId) release at once (pendingLaunchOutcome.ts:38).
CI is green at head. The changed-area bun test suites pass. The desktop dev build booted and signed in over CDP, but the workspace view did not render on this memory-limited box, so the tab order, #9311 and #9312 are not verified end to end.

The new resolver immediately releases a pending pane without a promised terminal ID. A pane persisted by the previous prompt-hash version has no such field, so an upgrade can turn it into a blank chat rather than resolving its in-flight cloud launch.
The initial chat launch is not attached to the pane when it eventually appears.
This can occur when: The desktop upgrades or restarts while an older pending cloud-chat pane is persisted and its box is still starting.

Add a second-workspace open case to the floating popover test.
The test opens ws-a and checks that ws-b stays unset. It never calls setFloatingOpen("ws-b", true). A setter that always writes the ws-a key would pass every assertion. Add a step that opens ws-b, checks both keys, and closes ws-b again. The store is a module-level singleton with no reset between tests.

Assert a retained intermediate entry in the cap test.
The cap test writes kept-0 through kept-${MAX_CARRIED_POSITIONS} and checks only the evicted oldest key and the newest key. An implementation that retains only the newest entry passes these checks and the null-write check. kept-1 is the oldest entry that the eviction keeps, so asserting it verifies retention up to the cap. No other test in the desktop renderer asserts a retained intermediate entry.

When the source Transcript is unmounted, carryReaderPosition reads only the live readers entry and passes null. A resume that completes while a subagent view replaces the Transcript opens the replacement at the end. Fall back to the saved carried position when no reader is registered.

Find the launched chat without relying on the newest 50 sessions.
The pending pane reads only the 50 most recently updated sessions in the workspace. If more than 50 other sessions update after the launched chat, the pane never matches it. It then releases to a plain chat pane with a new terminal ID and no session, so the running chat is not attached to the pane.
Possible fix direction
No safe localized edit is established. Passing limit: 200 does not fix this, because the same cap still applies at 200. A fix needs a lookup keyed by the promised terminal ID, or a session query that filters by terminal ID.

Keep a chat fallback when the create response has no terminal ID.
When initialLaunch returns no terminalId, seedPendingCloudChat returns early and no chat pane opens. Auto-adoption was removed, so nothing else opens the chat. The agent can run while its chat stays hidden. Add a fallback that opens the chat when the response has no terminal ID, or keep adoption for that case.
Context
packages/shared/src/cloud-agent-launch.ts:89 builds the descriptor with terminalId: launch.terminalId ?? null, so a missing ID is returned as null.

Retry the chat agent lookup before dropping a chat launch.
resolveChatAgentIds maps a failed sessions.get call to an unresolved entry. appendLaunchesToPaneLayout then drops every chat launch that has no chatAgentId. On the ordinary completion path, the lookup runs once. A single transient failure therefore removes the chat tab, and no later step adds it back. Hosts that do not send chatAgentId use this path.
Recovered launches run the lookup again in the completion step, so they lose their tab only when both lookups fail.
Add a bounded retry around the sessions.get call in resolveChatAgentIds so that a transient error does not drop the tab.

Gate ID-bound pending panes on the box's host version.
A box whose boot bundle predates this allowlist entry drops SUPERSET_SANDBOX_AGENT_TERMINAL_ID. The launched agent then gets a host-chosen ID. pendingLaunchOutcome matches only on the promised ID, so the pending pane is released after the three-minute timeout without its session. Nothing in the desktop seeding path or the cloudWorkspace create mutation checks the box version before the ID is sent.
Based on learnings: "gate a new host feature on the version the box reports (health.check), the same way as a remote host. The chat attachment parts floor (ATTACHMENT_PARTS_MIN_HOST_VERSION) works like this." Apply the same check to the terminal ID.

Request a tab for pinned cloud chats.
The pinned cloud branch omits openTab, and launchAgentSession sends panes.newTab only when that flag is true. With desktop auto-adoption removed, an attached desktop can create the chat without opening its tab. The chat remains accessible through history, but the creator-opens-tab behavior is lost.

Preserve a carried position until restoration completes.
When the viewport mounts before transcript rows load, restoration returns because hasRows is false. A session change can then run the cleanup and delete the carried position before restoration. Keep the map entry while carried is pending, and forget it only after restoration succeeds or rejects its target.

- Retry the chat agent lookup on workspace create, and warn when it still
fails, so one transient error does not drop the chat tab.
- A focused newTab in the sidebar now shows the sidebar.
- `panes new-tab --sidebar --session` checks for sidebar support, like the
terminal path.
- The pending cloud chat pane asks for the maximum session page, so a busy
workspace does not hide the promised session.
- Tab requests from the CLI, mobile, and automations, and the agent launch
recovery, log unexpected failures. "No desktop attached" and "host too
old" stay quiet.

Summary
This PR bundles four fixes and the removal of
useAutoAdoptChatSessions:Closes #9260, closes #9311, closes #9312.
Part 1: Chat tabs from the creator
Why
In Chat mode, a new workspace opened with "Workspace Setup" first and selected, and the agent's chat second. The create flow dropped chat launches. The chat only appeared later, when
useAutoAdoptChatSessionsfound it as an orphan and added a background tab. That hook polled sessions and guessed which panes to open. What / How
appendLaunchesToPaneLayoutwrites the chat (or terminal agent) tab first and selects it. The host returns an optionalchatAgentIdon agent results. For an older host, the desktop reads the agent fromsessions.getby the exact session id. If a create times out but the row exists, the launched agents are read back from the host's agent bindings.panes.newTabtakessessionIdandfocus. The host resolves the chat's agent and terminal, and sends them in a separatechatfield of the op. A desktop that predates it then rejects the op, instead of opening a terminal pane on the chat's id. A chat that already has a pane is reused. CLI:superset panes new-tab --session ID [--focus].sessions create/import/resume, relay automation dispatch, and the mobile new-session sheet. Each call is best-effort and opens the tab in the background.latestOpenChatSessions, and the closed-terminal bookkeeping that only kept adoption from reopening chats.Part 2: Cloud chats bind by terminal id
agentTerminalIdwithcloudWorkspace.create. It travels asSUPERSET_SANDBOX_AGENT_TERMINAL_ID, and the sandbox host starts the chat (or the terminal it falls back to) under that id. The launch descriptor echoes it asterminalId.sandboxIdentitySchema(sandbox.conf) and insuperset-boot's host-service env list. CI's boot test caught both, because they would have dropped it silently.useAutoAdoptChatSessions: prompt-hash matching, first-prompt reads, backoff polling, and the closed-launch tracking.Part 3: #9311 and #9312
activityPanelStore, per workspace. Clicks on the workspace sidebar no longer close it.useCarriedReaderPositionsaves the reader position by session id in a layout cleanup, before React detaches the DOM. The existing restore path uses it. It is kept in memory and capped at 50 sessions.Manual QA (dev desktop, driven over CDP with real input)

Behavior changes
Notes for review
panes.newTabnow acceptssessionIdandfocus; the host resolves the chat's terminal and agent, and a desktop that predates the op rejects it instead of opening a terminal pane. A focusednewTabin the sidebar shows the sidebar, andpanes new-tab --sidebar --sessionchecks for sidebar support like the terminal path. All tRPC changes are additive.SUPERSET_SANDBOX_AGENT_TERMINAL_IDnow reaches the box — bothsandbox.confandsuperset-bootpreviously dropped it — so publish a sandbox bundle with this host-service before the desktop release. Not tested end to end: the sandbox boot launch under the promised id and the composer-to-API-to-pane path, which are covered by unit tests.Written for commit 985b729.
