Summary

  • A cloud workspace provisioned zero skills — not zero plugin skills, zero. getBundledPluginDir looks for templates/plugin and falls back to a repo checkout, and the host tarball shipped neither. It now ships the bundled plugin and the installable first-party trees.
  • The plugin ledger on a box comes from sandbox.conf: claim.ts reads the creator's installs, host-service turns them into installed_plugins.json before provisioning runs. No pull, no account call, no second sync pass.
  • The MCP half: a box's credential is accepted on the plugin proxy only, rate-limited per workspace, and one ledger-driven writer in agent-setup keeps mcpServers in step with the skills.

Reviewed against Plugins in Sandboxes: Review. Deltas from it are in Design Decisions.

Why / Context

superset plugins list --json in a cloud workspace returned A cloud workspace cannot call plugins.list. That error was the symptom of three separate gaps, which is why this is not a two-line change:

  1. No skills at all. getBundledPluginDir() resolves <templates>/plugin, then falls back to <repo>/plugins/superset — which exists in a dev checkout and on no box. Every cloud workspace logged Bundled plugin missing …; skipping managed skills and provisioned nothing, including the superset:* skills.
  2. No ledger. installed_plugins.json is per-machine and its only writers are the desktop main process and the CLI. Nothing in the sandbox image or host-service ever wrote it.
  3. No tools. /mcp/plugins/* goes through resolveMcpContext, which accepts an API key or an OAuth JWT. A box holds neither, so every plugin tool call was a 401.

How It Works

The claim writes, the box reads. creatorPlugins() reads the creator's plugin_installs and claim.ts writes SUPERSET_SANDBOX_PLUGINS into sandbox.conf beside SUPERSET_SANDBOX_REPOSITORIES — on create and on every wake, because a wake is a re-claim. seedSandboxPlugins() runs in serve.ts immediately before provisionAgentIntegrations(), so the boot-time sync that already existed finds the ledger on disk. The box never asks the API for account state.

No clone in the box. Every account install is first-party (plugins.install has one insert site and refuses any other marketplace), and all of plugins/ is 244 KB, so produce.ts ships the trees and the seed points installPath at them. There is no git in this path.

One writer for mcpServers. desiredPluginMcpServers + syncPluginMcpServers live in agent-setup and run in the same pass as createManagedSkills, off the same ledger. The desktop's local-db-driven copy is deleted; its mutations already shell out to the CLI, which now converges both halves.

The sandbox credential on one route. resolveMcpContext takes an opt-in sandboxCredential flag that only the plugin proxy passes. The resulting context carries bearerToken: "" on purpose: nothing in proxy/ reads it, but anything reaching hosts through the relay does, so Superset's own tools fail on a box rather than acting as the creator. apps/api/src/app/mcp/route.ts also refuses source: "sandbox" outright.

Manual QA Checklist

Verified in a real cloud workspace (box-side)

  • Baseline in a fresh box: ls ~/.agents/skills is 0, no plugins key in /etc/superset/sandbox.conf
  • With the conf key present: ledger written from the conf alone, 16 skill dirs (13 superset:* + 3 linear-*)
  • installPath resolves to a shipped tree; ledger records the tree's version (1.5.2), not the conf's (0.0.0)
  • A disabled install stays a record and materializes nothing
  • A tools-only plugin with no tree (circleback) still gets its MCP server
  • MCP entries: linear → api.superset.sh/mcp/plugins/superset/linear, circleback → its direct URL
  • superset plugins list from inside the box still refuses — production API is pre-deploy, which is the expected state

Verified in a Linux container (11/11)

  • The same chain with real seedSandboxPlugins + createManagedSkills + syncPluginMcpServers, no network
  • Login-shell SUPERSET_HOME_DIR before/after the rename: /home/ubuntu → /home/ubuntu/.superset

Not verified — needs a deploy

  • plugins.list from a box returns 200 (needs the api deploy)
  • A plugin tool call from a box succeeds (needs the api deploy)
  • claim.ts writes the conf key on a real create and wake (needs the api deploy)
  • boot-twice (needs native amd64; the 8 new assertions cover this chain)

Testing

  • bun run typecheck — 42/42 tasks
  • bun run lint — clean
  • bun run check:plugins — clean
  • bun run check:i18n — no catalog changes (no translated strings added)
  • bun test packages/host-service/src/runtime — 221/221, including 5 new sandbox-plugins tests
  • bun test packages/sandbox — 9/9 · bun test packages/cli/src/lib/plugins — 46/46
  • 8 new assertions in boot-twice.ts covering the ledger, a treeless plugin, installPath, skills, the bundled skills, the mcpServers entry and the login-shell SUPERSET_HOME_DIR

Pre-existing failures, unchanged by this branch: 5 notify-hook "agent identity precedence", 22 rrule describeSchedule (Lingui macro outside compilation), trpc/credentials.test.ts (no local .env), and 20 desktop host-service-coordinator/notifications/host-db-workspace-name tests (no test under main/lib imports plugin-installs).

Design Decisions

  • SUPERSET_HOME_DIR → SUPERSET_USER_HOME in the contract. The contract's name meant $HOME while meaning ~/.superset in agent-setup, the CLI and the desktop. host-service exports the latter into every terminal; a login shell then sources contract.sh, and because the variable is already exported the reassignment is exported too. The CLI's ledger landed in $HOME, split from the one provisioning reads. Demonstrated before/after in a container. All 9 contract-side uses meant "the user's home", so the contract is the one that moved.
  • Queries key on user_id alone, not organization_id + user_id as the review specified: plugin_installs.organization_id is nullable and the install path writes it null, so narrowing by organization matches nothing.
  • SUPERSET_SANDBOX_MARKETPLACES dropped. With first-party trees shipped and account installs first-party-only, nothing on a box resolves a marketplace, so the key would always be empty.
  • Tools-only plugins stay in the ledger without an installPath. A catalog entry can have a direct MCP server and no tree (circleback); dropping it cost it servers that have nothing to do with a tree. Skill provisioning requires the field, MCP provisioning does not.
  • bearerToken: "" for a sandbox context rather than a minted JWT, so the guarantee does not rest on the opt-in flag alone.
  • plugins.list and plugins.marketplaces.list stay on the sandbox allowlist, against the review's "drop these two rows". superset plugins list and superset plugins marketplace list working inside a box is the point of this PR. Both are reads; every account write (install, uninstall, enable, disable, connect) stays sandbox: false.
  • The review's CLI sandbox: false work is already on main (feat(cli): add an audience flag to hide unreleased commands #7776 landed the second axis); nothing to do there.

Known Limitations

  • plugins install/uninstall/enable/disable/connect stay hidden in a box (sandbox: false); account writes remain a person's call from a signed-in client. A plugin with no connection returns PLUGIN_UNAVAILABLE.
  • A box serves the plugin version its runtime ships, not the version the account records.
  • packages/agent-setup/** is not in .github/workflows/sandbox.yml paths, so a future agent-setup-only change to this chain gets green CI without boot-twice. Worth adding; left out to keep this diff to one concern.

Risks / Rollout

  • Risk: the sandbox credential reaching Superset's own MCP tools would hand a box the creator's full tool surface. Mitigated three ways: the capability is opt-in per route, the plugin route is the only caller, and /mcp refuses source: "sandbox".
  • Risk: before the per-workspace rate-limit key, bearer-less boxes behind shared egress would have shared one 600/min bucket fleet-wide. Ships with the auth change for that reason.
  • Rollout order: api deploy first (allowlist, MCP auth, rate-limit key, and the claim writing the conf key), then a bundle release (bun run release) for host-service, agent-setup and the runner. A box with no conf key simply seeds nothing, so the API landing first is safe.
  • The release must push the image. superset-boot is a rootfs file and the runner that handles a boot is the one already on the box, so the new host_env entry reaches an existing box on its second boot after the bundle lands, and a fresh box only through the image. Do not use --skip-image.
  • Rollback: revert the api deploy to stop the new auth path; point environments.bundle_sha at the previous sha (environment.update) and the next wake flips current with no download. Nothing here migrates data.

Summary by cubic

Cloud workspaces now provision the creator's plugins and their MCP tools, including the creator's connections; before, they provisioned zero skills.

  • The claim always writes the install set and the creator's connections to sandbox.conf; host-service seeds the plugin ledger and connections.json from them before provisioning runs, so a connector with two accounts gets split MCP entries on a box. installPath resolves to a cached copy of a bundled first-party tree — the full tree, not just skills — staged and renamed into place so a partial copy is never recorded; a same-named plugin from another marketplace or a missing tree stays tools-only, and an empty set empties the ledger.
  • Plugin MCP servers sync off the same ledger in host-service and the CLI (readEnabledPlugins); there is now one reconciler rather than two competing ones, same-named installs from other marketplaces are never served Superset's endpoint, an unreadable ledger counts as unknown rather than empty so a torn write cannot reap every managed server, and a server the reconciler wrote that the ledger no longer names gets reaped while a server the user configured themselves is untouched. The desktop keeps its local-db-driven sync because its plugins.syncConnections route calls it.
  • A box's credential is accepted only on the plugin MCP route; the MCP rate limit is keyed on the credential's verified workspace id (HMAC, no database).
  • The contract's SUPERSET_HOME_DIR is renamed SUPERSET_USER_HOME.

Rollout

  • Deploy api first, then a bundle release that must push the image.

This change adds sandbox plugin data to sandbox startup and agent setup. It adds sandbox credential support to MCP context resolution and rate limiting, and updates plugin synchronization and CLI install handling.

Changes

Sandbox plugin provisioning

Layer / File(s) Summary
Add creator plugins to sandbox claims
packages/shared/src/sandbox-contract.ts, packages/trpc/src/lib/sandbox/plugins.ts, packages/trpc/src/lib/sandbox/claim.ts
The sandbox identity schema accepts plugin entries. The claim path reads the creator’s plugin installs and serializes them into the identity.
Stage plugin trees and configure sandbox home
packages/sandbox/src/assets/produce.ts, packages/sandbox/bundle/rootfs/usr/local/bin/*, packages/sandbox/bundle/steps/*, packages/shared/src/sandbox-contract.ts, packages/sandbox/src/boot-twice.ts
The sandbox build stages the repository plugin tree. Sandbox scripts use SUPERSET_USER_HOME and forward SUPERSET_SANDBOX_PLUGINS to host-service. The boot test supplies plugin entries and checks the host-service environment.
Share plugin ledger and cache utilities
packages/agent-setup/src/{config.ts,installed-plugins.ts,plugin-cache.ts,index.ts}, packages/agent-setup/src/installed-plugins.test.ts, packages/cli/src/lib/plugins/{host.ts,marketplace.ts}
Agent setup adds shared ledger readers and writers, plugin cache helpers, and bundled marketplace lookup. The CLI uses these shared types and helpers, and tests cover enabled-plugin ledger reads.
Seed sandbox plugin records
packages/host-service/src/runtime/{agent-provisioning.ts,sandbox-plugins/*,../serve.ts}
Host startup validates sandbox plugin data, caches matching bundled plugin trees, and writes installed-plugin records. Provisioning waits for seeding before integration setup. Tests cover cache behavior, ledger entries, and invalid or empty claims.
Synchronize plugin MCP servers
packages/agent-setup/src/{agent-setup.ts,index.ts,plugin-mcp-servers.ts}, packages/cli/src/{commands/plugins/install/command.ts,lib/plugins/*}, apps/desktop/src/main/{index.ts,lib/plugin-installs.ts}
Agent setup and CLI synchronization derive managed MCP server configuration from enabled ledger entries. Desktop plugin operations no longer sync MCP servers directly. CLI changes also gate connector lookup on account-install success, omit empty bearer headers, and require an install path before removing a plugin directory.

Sandbox MCP access

Layer / File(s) Summary
Resolve sandbox MCP contexts
packages/mcp/src/{auth.ts,define-tool.ts}, packages/trpc/src/lib/sandbox/{api-credential.ts,index.ts}
MCP contexts and tool events accept the sandbox source. Credential validation returns a workspace ID, and caller resolution retains its workspace and membership checks. Sandbox access also allows plugin listing procedures.
Apply sandbox context and rate-limit keys
apps/api/src/app/mcp/{route.ts,plugins/[marketplace]/[plugin]/route.ts}, apps/api/src/lib/mcp-rate-limit.ts
The MCP routes enable sandbox credential resolution and use the context source as the client ID. Rate limiting uses a verified workspace key when no bearer token is present and retains the IP fallback.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 8f642

Cloud workspaces gain access to the creator’s connected plugin accounts. Authentication remains scoped, but changing an optional authorization header can bypass the workspace request ceiling, weakening abuse containment for shared services.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: The new sandbox-authenticated plugin path does not consistently enforce its workspace request ceiling. A workspace process can send changing Authorization values: the limiter selects a fresh token bucket, but authentication still selects the firewall-injected sandbox credential. This permits authenticated plugin requests beyond the intended workspace quota, weakening containment of malicious or runaway workloads.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — Workspace processes using the configured API egress path inherit the creator’s plugin-proxy authority, including manually requested currently enabled plugins beyond the locally generated first-party entries. Sensitive outcomes include operations against connected external accounts. The quota mismatch affects shared API abuse containment, but does not itself grant another workspace identity or access to the general MCP tool registry.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — A workspace workload can repeatedly call a plugin endpoint with different arbitrary Authorization values. Egress supplies valid sandbox authentication, while each value receives a separate token-derived rate bucket. Authentication succeeds as the workspace creator without validating that bearer. This newly combines an existing pre-authentication bucket-selection behavior with authenticated plugin execution.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Credential verification binds the presented secret to a workspace ID. Caller resolution requires a non-deleted workspace and creator membership in its organization. Plugin lookup requires the creator’s current enabled installation; pinned connections explicitly check creator and organization ownership. Only trusted manifests may select first-party servers. Sandbox context carries no minted bearer token for relay calls.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Cache reuse deliberately accepts an existing target containing plugin.json, while the cloud install command declares sandbox installation unsupported. These are important counterweights to the shared-cache concern: manifest presence is not a provenance check, but the normal cloud CLI installation path is not enabled. Cross-process serialization and malformed-reclaim recovery policy remain coverage gaps.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Use the same identity precedence for authentication and rate limiting: whenever sandbox authentication wins, select the verified workspace bucket regardless of an optional Authorization header. Preserve a separate pre-authentication abuse ceiling without allowing that header to partition authenticated workspace traffic.

RetriggerConfidence Score: 2/5

[High risk] Extends MCP authentication to cloud workspaces and plugin provisioning.

The PR is not ready to merge because packaged cloud workspaces still miss installed plugin skills, and plugin removals can leave stale configuration.

  2. P1 Last uninstall leaves stale plugins ▶
  3. P1 Failed CLI leaves MCP active ▶
  4. P2 Unreadable ledger removes MCP servers ▶
Fix with agent prompt
### Issue 1
packages/host-service/src/serve.ts:63
When a packaged cloud workspace starts, `seedSandboxPlugins()` runs before `provisionAgentIntegrations()` sets the bundled templates directory. Seeding therefore misses the shipped plugin trees and records first-party plugins without an `installPath`. Skill provisioning skips those entries, so the workspace still lacks their skills.

### Issue 2
packages/host-service/src/runtime/sandbox-plugins/sandbox-plugins.ts:26-27
When a creator uninstalls their last plugin, the next claim omits `SUPERSET_SANDBOX_PLUGINS`. This early return leaves the old ledger on disk instead of recording an empty plugin set. On wake, provisioning reads that ledger and retains the removed plugin’s skills and MCP configuration.

### Issue 3
apps/desktop/src/main/lib/plugin-installs.ts:198-201
Disabling or uninstalling a plugin now saves the desktop’s local state but relies on an asynchronously queued CLI call to remove its MCP entry. If the bundled CLI is missing or the call fails, the failure is only logged and the old entry remains configured. Restarting does not repair it from desktop state because startup sync reads the unchanged CLI ledger.

### Issue 4
packages/agent-setup/src/installed-plugins.ts:30-34
A read or parse error here returns an empty plugin list, which MCP sync treats as an instruction to remove previously managed servers. Skill provisioning preserves its existing state when the same ledger is unreadable, so a temporary read failure can leave installed plugins with skills but no tools. Please distinguish an unreadable ledger from a genuinely empty one.

---

For each issue above, determine whether it is valid and should be fixed. If so, fix it directly.

Summary

The PR packages plugin trees for cloud workspaces, seeds a plugin ledger from each workspace claim, provisions agent MCP entries from that ledger, and permits workspace credentials on the plugin MCP route. The packaged startup order still prevents first-party plugin skills from being seeded. Empty claims and failed desktop CLI synchronization can also leave plugin configuration stale.

Three review findings on #8014:

1. seedSandboxPlugins() resolved the bundled marketplace dir before
provisionAgentIntegrations() set the templates-dir override, so in a
packaged box every plugin landed without an installPath and no cloud
workspace got any plugin skills. The existing test only passed because
its beforeEach set the override that production set five lines too
late. Hoisted the resolution into applyAgentTemplatesDir().

2. The claim omitted SUPERSET_SANDBOX_PLUGINS when the creator had none,
so uninstalling the last plugin left the previous ledger on disk and
the box kept its skills and MCP entries on wake. The claim now always
states the set; an absent variable still means "not a cloud
workspace", which must not touch the ledger.

3. readEnabledPluginNames() read an unreadable ledger as an empty one,
which MCP sync takes as an instruction to reap every managed server.
It now returns null for that, the way readInstalledPluginSources
already did, and the sync skips.

Comment thread apps/api/src/lib/mcp-rate-limit.ts Resolved
harshithmullapudi added a commit that referenced this pull request Oct 1, 2026
Six more review findings on #8014:

- The rate-limit key trusted the sandbox credential header as presented.
The firewall adds it on the way out, so nothing inside a box can rotate
it, but anyone on the internet can send the header and a fresh value
bought a fresh bucket every request, which walks past the IP limiter
the branch falls back to. Verifying is an HMAC and no database, so
sandboxCredentialWorkspaceId does that much and the key is now the
workspace id. An unverified header falls through to the IP bucket.

- Dropped the ctx.source === "sandbox" guard on /mcp: the route never
enables sandboxCredential, so it was unreachable. Enabling it to make
the guard live would refuse a person's own agent inside a box, which
reaches the API through the same firewall and so carries the header on
  every request alongside their bearer.

- produce.ts's copy helper ignored cp's exit code, so a missing tree
shipped a tarball with no plugins in it and a box fell back to a repo
checkout it does not have. That is the same silence as the templates
  ordering bug, one layer down.

- boot-twice asserted on the ledger with regexes loose enough to pass on
a wrong installPath. It parses the JSON now.

- Restored the templates dir and removed the temporary dirs in the seed
test's afterEach: the override is global and test files share a
  process.

- Moved getBundledMarketplaceDir below getBundledPluginDir so the doc
comment sits above the function it describes.
A box provisioned zero skills, not just zero plugin skills:
getBundledPluginDir looks for templates/plugin and falls back to a repo
checkout, and the host tarball shipped neither. The desktop and the CLI
both overlay plugins/superset there; produce.ts now does too, along with
the installable first-party trees, which is all a box needs — every
account install is first-party and the whole set is 244 KB.

The ledger comes from sandbox.conf. claim.ts reads the creator's installs
(keyed on user_id alone: an install's organization_id is nullable and the
install path writes it null) and writes SUPERSET_SANDBOX_PLUGINS, which
host-service turns into installed_plugins.json before provisioning runs.
No pull, no account call, no second sync pass.

SUPERSET_HOME_DIR in the sandbox contract meant $HOME while meaning
~/.superset everywhere else, and a login shell sources contract.sh after
host-service exports the latter — so the CLI's ledger landed in $HOME,
split from the one provisioning reads. The contract's name is now
SUPERSET_USER_HOME.
…tools-only plugins

Two things a real box found that a container could not.

host_env in superset-boot is a scrubbed allowlist (`env -i`), so a conf key
host-service reads has to be named there. SUPERSET_SANDBOX_PLUGINS was not,
which made the seed a silent no-op on every box.

And a plugin can be tools only: a catalog entry whose MCP server is reached
directly, with no tree to materialize (circleback). Skipping it cost it its
servers, which have nothing to do with a tree. The ledger now records every
install the account reports, with installPath only where a tree exists —
skill provisioning requires that field and ignores the rest, MCP
provisioning does not.
A comment is the last resort for a trap the next reader would walk into;
the why belongs in the commit message and the PR.
…p on empty

Four more review findings on #8014:

- Seeding matched a claim entry against the bundled tree by name, so
acme/linear took superset/linear's version, installPath and skills. A
tree only counts as shipped when the entry is first-party.

- desiredPluginMcpServers had the same blind spot one layer up: the
catalog is first-party, and its proxy URL names the first-party
marketplace, so another marketplace's same-named plugin was pointed at
Superset's endpoint. readEnabledPluginNames is now readEnabledPlugins
and carries the marketplace for that check.

- boot-twice asserted on SUPERSET_HOME_DIR in a login shell, which this
branch renames to SUPERSET_USER_HOME in the contract shell. Nothing
exported it any more and the expected value had never been the
contract's, so the assertion failed and took the whole run with it. It
now resolves the ledger path the way resolveSupersetHomeDir does and
checks the file host-service wrote is the one a login shell finds.

- The disabled-install test asserted only on the ledger record, so it
could not catch provisioning that started materializing disabled
entries. It asserts against both ledger consumers now.
Review findings from saddlepaddle on #8014:

- The ledger pointed installPath into the bundled marketplace under
  /opt/superset/host/<sha>, which is root-owned and which install-host
reaps on upgrade, and which is not where a laptop keeps a plugin.
Seeding now copies the whole shipped tree into the same cache the CLI
  uses, ~/.superset/plugins/cache/<marketplace>/<name>/<version>, and
records that. The version is in the path, so existence is the
idempotence check and a wake costs one stat per plugin. pluginCachePath
moves from the CLI into agent-setup beside the ledger writer.

- There were two writeInstalledPlugins for one file, and the CLI's
InstalledPlugin required an installPath this one leaves optional, so
the CLI's type denied a ledger it reads. The CLI now uses agent-setup's
writer and type throughout, which turned up the latent bug the types
had been hiding: removePlugin passed a possibly-undefined installPath
  to existsSync.

- readEnabledPlugins duplicated the first twenty lines of
readInstalledPluginSources. Both project over one readLedgerRecords.

- plugins/superset shipped twice in the host-service tarball.
getBundledPluginDir now finds it inside the marketplace tree, so the
sandbox copies the marketplace alone. Its comment claimed every
distribution overlays templates/plugins, which only the sandbox does.

- applyAgentTemplatesDir ran twice per boot. The seed moves inside
provisionAgentIntegrations, right after the templates dir is applied,
so the ordering lives in one place instead of across two lines of main.

- Dropped the membership check in sandboxContext: resolveSandboxCaller
already returns null without that row. Passed ctx.source through on
/mcp instead of the api-key:oauth ternary.

- boot-twice cannot run this branch's host-service: the box installs the
asset pinned in assets.json. Dropped the seven assertions that needed
it, and kept the one thing the bundle does own, that the runner hands
  the plugin list to host-service.
The no-main-loop-blocking guard rejects cpSync, and rightly: the copy
walks a whole plugin tree. seedSandboxPlugins awaits cp from
node:fs/promises instead, which makes it and provisionAgentIntegrations
async and gives serve.ts one await it did not have. The ordering is
unchanged — the ledger still lands before setupAgentIntegrations reads
it — and boot now yields while the trees copy.
cp publishes each file as it goes, so a host that stopped after
plugin.json landed left a tree that the existence check would call
cached forever, and the ledger would point at a plugin missing its
skills. The copy goes to a sibling and is renamed into place once it
finishes, and a failure takes the staging directory with it.
The CLI's assertSafeSegment and the cache path's had the same regex and
the same rejection rules in two files. agent-setup owns the predicate
now and the CLI's wrapper keeps throwing CLIError for its own message.

Approving at fb9f365. All review asks are closed: the seeder copies into a staging dir and renames with the main-loop ratchet untouched, one segment validator, installPath in the per-user cache, one ledger writer, and the Design Decisions line for the allowlist rows. CI green; host-service runtime, CLI plugins, sandbox and shared plugin suites pass locally.

Follow-ups, none blocking:

  • The body still says /mcp refuses source: "sandbox" (How It Works and Risks). It doesn't; that route just never opts in. Fix the two lines before merge.
  • SUPERSET_SANDBOX_PLUGIN_CONNECTIONS puts the creator's connection ids and account labels in the box, and a visitor in a shared box can call tools on the creator's personal connections. Same stance as the GitHub entry, but add it to docs/cloud-sandbox-considerations.md.
  • creatorPluginConnections copies the connectors.status query; share one.
  • After the api deploy and the bundle release, run one plugin tool call from a real box and tick the checklist. Nothing has exercised that path end to end yet.

…gins

#8003 landed its own plugin MCP convergence while this branch had added a
narrower one. Git merged both cleanly, which was the problem:

- Two desiredPluginMcpServers, one here and one in shared/plugins, both
feeding the reaping syncManagedMcpServers. Ours emitted no headersHelper
and no per-account entries, so whichever ran last won and a box's tools
could lose their credential. #8003's is the superset, so this drops
plugin-mcp-servers.ts, its barrel exports, and the setupAgentCapabilities
action, and keeps the one reconciler.

- The CLI ended up importing syncPluginMcpServers twice under one name and
calling both in syncPlugins. Keeps only ./mcp-servers, which feeds
  SyncResult.

- Both of #8003's call sites fed desiredPluginMcpServers from
readInstalledPluginSources, which requires an installPath, so the
tools-only entries seedSandboxPlugins deliberately writes without one got
reaped — the regression fb81ac5 fixed. They read readEnabledPlugins now.

- Kept #8003's syncInstalledPluginMcpServers in the desktop rather than this
branch's deletion of it: its plugins.syncConnections tRPC route calls it.
…vive a torn ledger

Two gaps in the merged state that would land on cloud workspaces:

- desiredPluginMcpServers matched the first-party catalog by name and
  hardcoded DEFAULT_MARKETPLACE, so another marketplace's same-named plugin
was served Superset's proxy URL. It takes the install's marketplace now
and contributes nothing when that is not the first-party one — the fix
this branch already made for the seed, applied at the other end.

- Both reconcilers passed `readEnabledPlugins() ?? []`, which turns an
unreadable ledger into an empty desired set, and reconciling reaps
whatever is absent: a torn write on a box would take the agent's managed
servers with it. Null now skips the sync instead.
Found by booting the provisioning path against an isolated home with a
cloud workspace's environment: a creator who uninstalls a plugin kept its
MCP server for good, while its skills were reaped — the half-on state the
one ledger exists to prevent, inverted.

claudeStale and codexStale both walked the desired set, so they could see
an entry that was missing or changed but never one that was present and
should go. An empty desired set produced no stale names at all, so the
writer never ran. They now also report what we wrote and the desired set
no longer names: the sidecar ledger for Claude, the fenced block for
Codex. A server the user configured themselves is still untouched, since
only tracked or fenced names can be reaped.
