feat(desktop): add API-billed usage profiles - #7175
Conversation
📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe usage page now supports subscription and API-key billing profiles for Claude and Codex. Profile discovery records billing metadata through marker files, usage cards show billing-specific content, and the add-account flow generates provider-specific login commands. Localized strings and background login polling were updated. ChangesAPI-billed usage profiles

Greptile SummaryThis PR adds API-billed Claude and Codex usage profiles across the desktop UI and host-service discovery contract.
Confidence Score: 3/5The PR is not yet safe to merge because Codex API login fails in supported shell environments and stale API markers can direct new agents into logged-out profiles. The copied Codex command relies on incompatible shell flags, and API-profile health is inferred permanently from a marker that outlives provider credentials; both paths can leave the new workflow unusable or launch agents with no valid sign-in. ### Issue 1
apps/desktop/src/renderer/routes/_authenticated/settings/usage/components/UsageView/utils/apiBilling/apiBilling.ts:46
**Login command breaks supported shells**
The generated Codex API-login command uses `read -rs`, but Fish rejects `-r` and POSIX shells such as dash reject `-s`. Although the dialog says the command works in any terminal, these shells stop before Codex runs, so no marker is written and the dialog waits indefinitely for a login that cannot complete.
### Issue 2
apps/desktop/src/renderer/routes/_authenticated/settings/usage/components/UsageView/utils/apiBilling/apiBilling.ts:46
**Cleanup masks login failure**
The unconditional `; unset OPENAI_KEY` becomes the final command, so a failed `codex login` still leaves the pasted command with a successful exit status. The marker is correctly withheld, but the terminal reports false success while the dialog continues waiting, making failed sign-ins harder to understand and diagnose.
### Issue 3
packages/host-service/src/trpc/router/usage/profiles.ts:146-149
**Stale markers appear healthy**
API-profile discovery treats this marker alone as proof of a healthy login. If the provider CLI logs out or its credentials are removed without deleting Superset's marker, the profile remains marked `ok` and can stay selected as the default. New agents are then launched against a credential-less profile directory instead of falling back to the system login.

Preserve “quota windows” in both German subscription descriptions.
AddAccountDialog renders these messages in the current usage workflow, and the German runtime catalog uses the shortened wording. This omits the reset-window information and can mislead German users about the displayed usage data. Use Kontingentfenster werden hier angezeigt. in both msgstr values, then regenerate packages/i18n/locales/de/messages.ts.

Translate “quota windows” explicitly in both Spanish subscription descriptions.
AddAccountDialog renders these catalog entries in the subscription/API billing selector. Without “ventanas de cuota,” Spanish users can lose the distinction between subscription quota windows and API billing with no quota windows. Use “aquí se muestran las ventanas de cuota.”

Correct the billing direction in the API-key account confirmation.
This message appears after sign-in in the usage account flow, where the user can select the new profile as default. cobra por token makes the profile the party that charges instead of stating that its API account is billed. Use está conectada e é cobrada por token na conta de API dela.

Handle quota-query errors before the empty-account branch.
If a provider quota fetch rejects, usage.quota rejects and useHostUsageQuota leaves data undefined. accounts becomes [], while visibleQuotaAgents(accounts) still renders the managed sections. Because isPending is false, each section reaches agentAccounts.length === 0 and shows “No logins” instead of the query error. Handle quotaQuery.isError before this branch and render the error state.

What & why
Supersedes #6967 (thanks @iamgadmarconi) — that branch was 141 commits behind
mainand on the retired explicit-ID i18n scheme, so this re-applies it onmainand reworks the UI. Fixes #6966.The Usage page can already discover several Claude Code and Codex subscription profiles and switch the default with one click. API-billed profiles (Anthropic Console,
codex login --with-api-key) could not take part. Now:Changes vs #6967
claudeorcodex. A presence-only marker made every marked~/.codex-*home also show up as a Claude API profile, because Claude discovery scans all~dot-dirs (reproduced in the running app).read -rsinstead of thestty/trapsubshell, and the marker step precedesunsetso it follows the login's exit status. A multi-line paste would feed the next line toreadas the key, so it stays single-line on purpose.useHostUsageLoginssetsrefetchIntervalInBackground: true. The app ties react-query's focusManager to window focus, so the poll paused exactly while the user was off in a terminal signing in, and the dialog never noticed the new profile.RadioGroupinstead ofTabs; dialog copy trimmed; catalogs for all 17 locales. How I tested it
bun testonpackages/host-service/src/trpc/router/usage(97 pass) and the desktop usage folder (39 pass): agent-tagged marker classification, fingerprint changes on re-login, other agent's marker ignored, unmarked APIauth.jsonignored, generated commands for both agents and both billing kinds.typecheckfor desktop and host-service, biome clean, bun run check:i18nclean.codex login --with-api-keyaccepted it from stdin and the marker was written; the profile appeared under Codex only.Screenshots
