Supersedes #6731, which cannot be merged from its fork: pushing the CI fix to harshithmullapudi/superset needs LFS upload rights we don't have, and main's ruleset only allows an admin bypass through a pull request, so the fix can't go straight to main either.

Same commits, same authorship — all the Pages work here is @harshithmullapudi's, cherry-picked verbatim from feat/pages at def4637e6. One commit added on top to get CI green.

What's on top

fix(skills): give the page skill Codex metadata and drop em dashes

bundled-skills.test.ts enforces two rules on every bundled skill, and the page skill met neither, which was the sole cause of the red Test job on #6731:

  • has Codex interface metadata — every skill needs agents/openai.yaml; the page skill shipped without one. Added, matching the ten existing files.
  • avoids em dashes (repo prose rule) — SKILL.md had 16. Rewritten in house style with semicolons, colons and sentence splits; no other bundled skill substitutes a hyphen, so neither does this one.

One of those em dashes sat inside a blockquote reproducing the publish command's unlinked-workspace notice, so packages/cli/src/commands/pages/publish/command.ts moves with it and the quote stays true to the output.

Verification

  • bun test packages/agent-setup/src/bundled-skills.test.ts — 78 pass, 0 fail
  • bun run lint — clean across 6299 files
  • Full bun run test — green apart from two known-unrelated items: the 5 node-pty spawn-helper tests, which fail identically on origin/main in a worktree without install:deps, and one workspace-fs watcher test that timed out under parallel load and passes 101/101 on re-run

Note

The review threads on #6731 are still the substantive record and several remain open, in particular the forgeable author_kind on pageComment.reply, the unused agent_activated_at columns, and the (workspace_id, entry_path) collision that silently mints orphan pages. Those are tracked as follow-ups, not blockers.

Summary by cubic

Introduce Pages v1: publish and view self-contained HTML pages with versions and inline comments across web, desktop, CLI, and MCP, gated by the pages feature flag. Previously there was no page concept; now users can publish HTML to a shareable URL, control visibility, and hand off comment threads to agents.

  • Desktop: Pages tab and a page pane (flag-gated); Electron superset-page:// protocol with strict CSP to render ephemeral HTML registered via a new pageContent TRPC router; unavailable panes are dropped when the flag is off.

  • Web: route /page/[slug] renders the current version with comments and visibility controls; loading/error/not-found and wrong-organization experiences; server-side PostHog client for flag checks; content downloads are timed-out and logged.

  • CLI: pages commands (list, get, versions, pull, publish) and pages comments (list, reply, resolve); path resolution is canonicalized to prevent symlink escapes; pull streams HTML to stdout with a timeout.

  • MCP: tools pages_list|get|versions|pull|publish and pages_comments_list|reply|resolve; defineTool accepts a z.object for cross-field rules; optionalish normalizes nulls; calls carry agentCaller metadata to gate agent-only actions.

  • Backend/schema: page, version, and comment tables and enums; relations wired; TRPC roots page and pageComment; shared adds FEATURE_FLAGS.PAGES, slug utilities, and content-type constants; docs updated to cover Pages in MCP.

  • Security: desktop rendering runs in a sandboxed scheme with default-src 'none', inline-only scripts/styles, no storage access; asset paths are canonicalized to avoid symlink bypass.

  • Misc: extracted a server-side PostHog client (posthog-node) for flag checks; 404 screens updated on web and desktop; dev seed creates the superset-cli OAuth client and redirect URIs; CLI help improves alias formatting; tests move page-comment helpers out of the TRPC router to avoid the DB import graph (no behavior change).

  • Rollout and migration

    • Run DB migration 0092.
    • Leave the feature off by default; enable with the PostHog flag pages (FEATURE_FLAGS.PAGES) per org.
    • For local dev, re-run the dev seed to create the superset-cli OAuth client and redirect URIs; restart desktop to register the superset-page:// protocol.

Written for commit dae2349. Summary will update on new commits.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01EBvwgtt7jo7oLi8QqJhjQi
Teaches an agent to build and publish a self-contained HTML page, and to work
the comment loop back from readers. Modelled on Claude's artifact skills, but
the constraints are Superset's own: the publish frame is sandboxed without
allow-same-origin, so storage throws and the network is effectively closed.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01EBvwgtt7jo7oLi8QqJhjQi
Published a containment probe into a real pages frame. All eight passive
escapes were refused, but document.cookie throws a SecurityError rather than
returning "" — which killed the probe's own script mid-run. Same trap as
localStorage, so the skill now names it. Also corrects the postMessage claim
and records the superset-page:// origin.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01EBvwgtt7jo7oLi8QqJhjQi
bundled-skills.test.ts requires every skill to ship agents/openai.yaml and
to avoid em dashes; the page skill had neither, failing CI Test.

The blockquote in SKILL.md quotes the publish command's unlinked-workspace
notice verbatim, so that string moves with it to keep the quote true.

Merge Risk: 🟠 High · up to dae23

Pages v1 still has a security risk in agent comment resolution, where missing session identity can bypass activated-thread authorization, plus a workflow bug that may create a new page instead of a new version. These issues can expose unintended comment actions and produce incorrect page history, so the PR is not ready to merge until they are fixed or explicitly accepted by owners.

🧹 Preview Cleanup Complete

The following preview resources have been cleaned up:

  • ✅ Neon database branch

Thank you for your contribution! 🎉

page-comment.test.ts imported the router to reach agentSessionFor and
assertActivatedForAgent. The router pulls @superset/db/client, which calls
neon() at module scope, so the file threw on import in CI where DATABASE_URL
is unset — the same trap publish.integration.ts is named around.

Both helpers are pure, so they move to agent-access.ts beside the router,
matching page/access.ts and page/publish-rules.ts. No behaviour change.

Merge the two duplicate at-cap tests.

Scope the comment query to the threads that are returned.

threadRows is already narrowed by activatedOnly and by input.version. The comment query still loads every non-deleted comment on the page. The extra rows are then discarded, because byThread is only read for the returned threads. For an MCP caller, activatedOnly is forced on, so the over-fetch is largest exactly where the result set is smallest.

Filter by the thread ids you already have. This also removes the join on pageCommentThreads.

Document the fail-open branch.

if (!cloud) return; allows any unknown workspace id. That is intentional for local workspaces, whose ids never reach Neon, and the integration test at packages/trpc/src/router/page/publish.integration.ts Line 409 asserts it. Align the doc comment with the predicate.

The comment states "Exactly one of id or slug". hasPageRef returns true when a caller sends both id and slug. The MCP tools are told to mirror this rule at their edge, so the mismatch can propagate. Either state "at least one" or enforce exclusivity.

Handle a failed visibility change.

setVisibility.mutateAsync rejects when the server denies or drops the request. This handler does not catch the rejection. The user then sees no error, and the menu keeps the previous visibility with no explanation. Other mutations in this layer report failures with toast.error (PageHandoffMenu.tsx lines 54-58, usePageCommentStore.ts line 55). Use the same pattern here.

Use one unresolved-flag policy for page panes.

usePaneRegistry treats an unresolved Pages flag as disabled. useV2WorkspacePaneLayout retains page panes until the flag becomes explicitly false. A workspace restored with a page pane can therefore render before a page registry entry exists.

Filter the seeded and persisted layout when Pages is not enabled, or retain the page registry entry until the flag resolves.

Keep a level-one heading for this route.

The changed block replaces the visible 404 heading with Pixel404, while the remaining title is <h2>Page Not Found</h2>. The final route has no <h1>, so heading navigation does not expose a primary page heading. Keep Pixel404 and render the title as <h1>.

Document the handoff restriction for page comments.

Forward the CLI agent session when resolving a thread.

This mutation sends no agentSessionId. The server resolve path therefore calls agentSessionFor(ctx) without the CLI identity. A pane agent can resolve any readable thread as a human and bypass the activated-thread check.

Extend the resolve input schema and server procedure to accept agentSessionId, then send agentSessionId() here.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Handle serveHtml failures.

If serveHtml(injected) rejects, Line 65 leaves servedSrc as null. Line 158 then renders no PageFrame. The page viewer stays blank and the caller cannot show its existing error UI.

Store and render an error state, or use a safe srcDoc fallback.

Pass the page identifier when republishing from the comment workflow.

Line 169 republishes without --page. Lines 129-131 state that publishing outside the original workspace or after a move can silently create a new page. The workflow can therefore publish the fix to a different page, then reply to and resolve threads on the old page. Use --page <page-id> in this workflow, or make the workspace and path precondition explicit before omitting it.
