What

Once the v1 migration marker is written for an org, useIsV2CloudEnabled returns v2 before it ever reads the optInV2 override. The "Try Superset v2" switch in Experimental settings still rendered, so toggling it off wrote the override, fired surface_toggled, and snapped back on the next render. It looked interactive and did nothing.

This is live: one migrated user clicked it about 30 times post-flip (surface_toggled events, to=v1, after their v1_auto_migration_completed).

Change

  • New useIsV1FlipLocked: true when the org's migration marker is set at boot, or the forced-flip backstop is active. Both states ignore optInV2.
  • ExperimentalSettings hides the switch row when the flip is locked. "Import from v1" stays visible as the recovery path.
  • Unlocked v1 users and voluntary v2 opt-ins (no marker) keep the working toggle.

Testing

  • New unit tests: lock semantics (marker beats explicit opt-out, opt-in does not lock, no-org case) and settings rendering per state. Mutation-checked: reverting the render guard and inverting the marker-vs-override priority each fail a test.
  • Full desktop suite: 2695 pass, 0 fail. Typecheck clean.
  • Verified in the dev app over CDP, screenshots of Settings -> Experimental in all three states:
    • v1 user, unmigrated: toggle visible and off.
    • migrated machine with opt-out still set (the affected user's exact state): boots v2, toggle gone, Import from v1 present.
    • voluntary v2 opt-in, no marker: toggle visible and on.

No v1 code paths change behavior: the row only disappears in states where the app already boots v2 unconditionally.

Summary by cubic

Hides the v1/v2 switch in Experimental settings once the v1→v2 flip is locked to remove a dead control. Previously, migrated or forced-flip users could toggle it, which wrote optInV2, fired surface_toggled, and immediately reverted to v2.

  • Adds useIsV1FlipLocked (true when the org’s migration marker is present at boot or the forced-flip backstop is active) and gates the switch on it; both states ignore optInV2.
  • Keeps the toggle for unlocked users (v1-era and voluntary v2 opt-ins); v2-only signups without a marker still see it. Import from v1 remains visible where applicable.
  • Tests cover marker precedence, forced-flip activation, no-org case, and settings rendering; makes the notifyQuotaExhausted toast interception order-immune by patching @superset/ui/sonner, and spreads real modules in test mocks so they survive any load order.

Written for commit 07bd707. Summary will update on new commits.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added safeguards that prevent switching back to v1 after migration or when the forced transition is active.
    • Preserved the v1 import recovery option for eligible accounts.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Updated Experimental Settings to hide the v2 toggle when v1 is locked.
    • Ensured forced transition states consistently enable v2 and lock v1.
  • Tests

    • Added coverage for migration states, opt-ins, opt-outs, inactive sessions, forced transitions, import recovery, and settings behavior.

After the v1 migration completes for an org, the migration marker beats the
optInV2 override, so the Experimental settings switch silently snapped back
on every click. Telemetry shows a migrated user clicking it ~30 times.

Adds useIsV1FlipLocked (marker or forced-flip backstop) and hides the
switch row when it is true. Unlocked v1 users and voluntary v2 opt-ins
keep the working toggle; Import from v1 stays as the recovery path.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The change adds useIsV1FlipLocked for migration and forced-flip state. ExperimentalSettings uses the state to hide the V2 toggle while retaining V1 import recovery. Tests cover hook states, settings visibility, and scoped toast interception.

Changes

V1/V2 settings flow

Layer / File(s) Summary
V1 flip state and hook coverage
apps/desktop/src/renderer/hooks/useIsV2CloudEnabled.ts, apps/desktop/src/renderer/hooks/useIsV2CloudEnabled.test.tsx
Adds useIsV1FlipLocked and tests migration markers, opt-in and opt-out states, forced-flip behavior, and sessions without an active organization.
Experimental settings visibility
apps/desktop/src/renderer/routes/_authenticated/settings/experimental/components/ExperimentalSettings/*
Hides the V2 toggle when the V1 flip is locked. Tests cover unmigrated users, migrated organizations, import recovery, and V2-only users.

Toast test isolation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Scoped toast interception
apps/desktop/src/renderer/routes/_authenticated/providers/CollectionsProvider/notifyQuotaExhausted.test.ts
Uses the real toast object for call capture and restores the patched methods after the tests.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 07bd7

The PR correctly hides the inactive v1/v2 switch for locked migrations, but the new tests should restore global storage and mocks after execution to avoid affecting later tests; merge is reasonable with this follow-up explicitly owned.

Add coverage for the forced-flip condition.

These cases only lock v2 with a migration marker. Add a no-marker case that activates isV1ForcedFlipActive() and asserts locked: true and v2: true. This protects the independent condition in useIsV1FlipLocked.

CI fails this file when other test files load the implementation first:
mock.module registered here comes too late for an already-imported module
on the CI bun build. Patching the shared toast object's methods applies
regardless of import order, so new test files can't reshuffle it broken.
…load order

mock.module is process-global; a partial auth-client mock crashed later
files importing getAuthToken/ensureFreshJwt when Linux load order put
them after these files.

Restore process-global test state in afterAll.

This test replaces globalThis.localStorage with backing, but the preload clears a different storage map. Migration markers and module mocks can therefore leak into later suites. Restore the original storage, clear backing, and call mock.restore(). Bun 1.3.14 restores module mocks created outside preload; do not treat realAuthClient or realEnv as immutable snapshots.

1.24.0 is the first release with the v1/v2 flip lock (#6693). Everything
below it still renders a working "Try Superset v2" switch after the
migration completes, which is the drift the migration tracker reported,
and everything below 1.19 cannot self-update at all (#6049). The gate is
the one lever that reaches both cohorts: 1,202 weekly actives below 1.24,
889 of them below 1.19, as of 12 September.
