feat(mobile): "Rate Superset" settings row and App Store rating prompt after positive moments - #6588
Conversation
…t after positive moments Settings → Support gains a "Rate Superset" row directly under Contact Support that opens the App Store write-review page. Separately, Apple's native rating sheet is requested right after Superset did something for the user: immediately when a pull request is merged from the phone, and on the third session an agent finished for them. Never asked twice for the same build or within 90 days; Apple's 3-per-year cap and the system opt-out apply on top. Fires app_review_prompt_requested in PostHog. expo-store-review is pinned to 56.0.3, the same release batch as the installed expo-modules-core; verified booting in a fresh dev client.

🌐 Web query:
For Expo SDK 56 expo-application on iOS, what values do nativeApplicationVersion and nativeApplicationBuildNumber return, and which value identifies an app build?
💡 Result:
In Expo SDK 56, the expo-application library provides access to native application information at runtime [1][2]. The two relevant properties on iOS return the following values: 1. Application.nativeApplicationVersion: Returns the human-readable version string of the application, which corresponds to the CFBundleShortVersionString value in the iOS Info.plist [1][3][2]. This is typically the value displayed in the app store (e.g., 1.0.0). 2. Application.nativeBuildVersion: Returns the internal build version of the application, which corresponds to the CFBundleVersion value in the iOS Info.plist [1][3][2]. This value is set using the ios.buildNumber property in your app configuration [1][2]. Regarding which value identifies an app build, Application.nativeBuildVersion is the property intended to distinguish between different binaries or builds for app stores [1][2]. It is the developer-facing build version used by app stores to identify specific build iterations [4][5]. Note that there is no property named nativeApplicationBuildNumber in the expo-application library; the correct property to access the build version is Application.nativeBuildVersion [1][3][2].

Use Application.nativeBuildVersion for the build gate.
Application.nativeApplicationVersion is the marketing version. Compare and persist Application.nativeBuildVersion, which identifies the iOS build. (nativeApplicationBuildNumber is not an expo-application API.)

Reserve the review request before scheduling the delay.
Two qualifying calls can schedule callbacks before either callback updates the store. Both callbacks can then capture app_review_prompt_requested and call StoreReview.requestReview(). Use a shared in-flight reservation across hook instances. Clear it when availability is false or rejects, and when StoreReview.requestReview() rejects. Keep the persisted prompt mark for the request that proceeds.

Track completed sessions separately from other positive moments.
positiveMoments includes pull-request merges and completed sessions. The hook uses this value for the "session_completed" threshold at Line 28 through Line 30 of apps/mobile/screens/(authenticated)/hooks/useAppReviewPrompt/useAppReviewPrompt.ts. Two pull-request merges and one completed session can therefore request a review before the user completes three sessions.
The timestamp-only dedupe also merges distinct sessions completed within one hour. Persist a completed-session count that increments only for a unique session identifier. Keep the aggregate positive-moment count only for analytics if needed.

We want more 5-star reviews without an in-app banner. Well-regarded iOS apps do two things: a passive "Rate …" row next to Contact Support in Settings, and Apple's system prompt at a peak moment (Duolingo after a lesson, Halide after real usage). The system sheet is the only mechanism that actually moves the rating count and is also the least intrusive one available — it's Apple's small card, capped and user-disableable.
How It Works
packages/shared/src/constants.ts—COMPANY.APP_STORE_URL(id fromeas.jsonascAppId).screens/(authenticated)/stores/appReviewStore— persisted tally of positive moments (deduped to one per hour so an agent stopping several times while the user watches counts once), plus last-prompted time and version.screens/(authenticated)/hooks/useAppReviewPrompt—requestAppReview("pr_merged" | "session_completed"): applies the gates above, waits 1.5s for the screen to settle, checksisAvailableAsync, marks prompted, captures the PostHog event, callsrequestReview().WorkspaceScreen(the existingattention === "review"→ seen transition) andPullRequestScreenonMerged.Manual QA Checklist

Summary by cubic
Adds a “Rate Superset” row in Settings and requests Apple’s rating sheet after positive moments to drive App Store reviews without in‑app banners. Previously there was no entry point or prompt; now the row opens the write‑review page and we request the native sheet at targeted moments with strict caps and an immediate reservation to avoid double prompts.
expo-store-review@56.0.3. Dev clients must rebuild after pulling.PullRequestScreenmerge callback andWorkspaceScreenwhenattention === "review". Dev builds show the sheet on each call; TestFlight often suppresses it; production follows Apple’s caps.app_review_prompt_requestedin PostHog.Written for commit 274eb36.
