The Preidentified Protocol delineates packets using the COSMOS header. This Protocol was created to allow tools to connect and receive the entire packet stream. It can be used with the [FileInterface](/docs/configuration/interfaces#file-interface) to process COSMOS 4 log files. It can also be used to chain COSMOS instances together although that should rarely be needed with the new web native implementation.

Every target named in the incoming packet headers must be mapped to the interface with [MAP_TARGET](plugins.md#map_target) or [MAP_TLM_TARGET](plugins.md#map_tlm_target). Packets for unmapped targets are dropped, and the interface logs a warning the first time it sees each unmapped packet.

| Parameter | Description | Required | Default |
| ------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | -------- | ----------------------- |
| Sync Pattern | Hex string representing a byte pattern that will be searched for in the raw data. This pattern represents a packet delimiter and all data found AFTER the sync pattern will be returned. The sync pattern itself is discarded. | No | nil (no sync pattern) |

Bound warning tracking with eviction, not a silent cutoff.

The Preidentified Protocol accepts successive packets with distinct target and packet names. Each name is limited to 255 bytes, but the stream has no lifetime limit on distinct names. Both service loops continue after the unmapped-target branch returns, so the warning sets can grow for the service lifetime.

The proposed silent cap would suppress the required first warning for new keys after the set reaches 1000 entries. Use bounded storage that evicts an older key before adding a new key, then apply the same policy to Ruby and Python. This preserves a warning for each newly seen key while bounding memory.

Review comment at @openc3/lib/openc3/microservices/interface_microservice.rb
around lines 765 - 768:
Replace the unbounded @unmapped_tlm_warned tracking with bounded storage that
evicts an older key before inserting a new one, rather than silently stopping
warnings at a fixed limit. Preserve the first-warning behavior for every newly
observed unmapped target/packet key, and apply the same eviction policy in the
corresponding Ruby and Python service loops.
