Background

Closes #1683. Loading a speculative-decoding corpus does not implement speculative execution. This adds an explicit ordinary-generation baseline using a bounded pinned SpecBench selection after stateless Responses.

Exit Criteria

  • Exercise the fixed workload using published pip-installed AIPerf against the existing native bundle.
  • Preserve request/input/output identity, report warmup/errors explicitly, and keep client timing separate from native Task-call timing.
  • Pass the existing family correctness checks without changing model/spec or numerical/merge rules, and document the supported capability limits.

Implementation

The optional text profiler pins the Spec-Bench JSONL revision/checksum used by the tested AIPerf public loader and selects the first twelve distinct fitting original first turns. It preserves question IDs, categories, exact strings/hashes, tokenizer lengths, considered rejections and unexamined counts. It materializes the bounded selection for AIPerf's existing single_turn loader so original whitespace and the existing bundle context limit are explicit, without a client source checkout or loader fork.

Each profile uses one output-token cap so declared and native generation work stay aligned; compare caps in separate configurations. The existing Qwen3-0.6B full FP16 pilot runs ordinary native generation. Corpus, verification and performance reports explicitly record that mode, a separate manual runtime source audit, no draft model, unqualified speculative execution and unavailable acceptance metrics. Native generation caps and Task scope are checked along with all source/wire/native input and output identities. The guide and coverage matrix distinguish qualified corpus input from unqualified speculative execution. This twelve-prompt subset does not qualify the full source corpus, a SpecBench quality score or speculative acceleration. No draft/target model, model spec, runtime implementation, numerical criterion or gate is added.

Commands and Results

All results below use head de62d339214ec8b476e1596873ccf264bc9b884b unless explicitly scoped otherwise.

  • python -m pytest apps/server/python/tests apps/perf_serving/tests apps/aiperf_qual/tests --import-mode=importlib -q: 818 passed, 2 existing optional skips.
  • Focused clean-head self-review tests: 114 passed; exact commands and source revision are retained with local validation records.
  • LC_ALL=C PYTHONUTF8=0 PYTHONCOERCECLOCALE=0 python -m pytest apps/aiperf_qual/tests/test_text_specbench.py -q: 4 passed with preferred encoding ANSI_X3.4-1968; the original Unicode equality assertion is unchanged.
  • python -m tools.ci pipeline source-quality: PASS, including 307 source tests.
  • npm --prefix website ci and npm --prefix website run build: PASS, including model-support tests and the production website build.
  • git diff --check: PASS.
  • python -m pytest families/qwen/tests/test_e2e.py --e2e-model qwen3-0.6b-fp16 -q: 8 passed, 13 unselected skips per profile invocation. Both requested original full-model cases executed: canonical reference correctness and native KV two-chunk parity. They used the exact served bundle through the existing prebuilt-bundle mechanism; references and criteria were unchanged.
  • python -m trtmc_aiperf_qual text-profile --environment environment.yaml --config qwen3-0.6b-specbench.yaml --out artifacts/profile: PASS with the checked-in configuration's interpreter/runtime/bundle paths supplied for the validation host. Each run uses the actual published PyPI AIPerf 0.13.0 client, one native execution lane and greedy sampling. All original input/output/native joins, configured generation caps and request identities verify; there are no unmatched requests or missing successful-request metric exports. Startup/build/load/warmup are excluded from measured request timing.

Source selection considered 12 of 480 rows and left 468 unexamined. This is only the documented original first-turn subset. All reports state ordinary_native_generation; no draft model or speculative execution is qualified, acceptance metrics are unavailable, and no speculative acceleration is claimed.

Actual source, selected inputs, rejection/selection ledger, raw exports, native-library hashes, joins, correctness output and command/environment records are retained locally. Native sources are compared with the validated build before reusing its isolated runtime; Python HTTP/qualification sources come from this clean head.

Not Run / Remaining Gaps

Qualification covers this fixed existing Qwen FP16 pilot on GB300. Other models, hardware/precisions and larger workloads are not implied. Native input-token counts remain unavailable; tokenizer counts are reported separately. Nonstreaming workloads do not claim TTFT/ITL. Current-head remote CI/review are required before merge and tracked on the PR; local checks do not replace the protected automated gate.

  • I have completed a self-review of this change.

Notes For Future Readers

Review the workload preparation/verification, profiler wiring and concise examples together. Corpus input qualification and optional runtime capabilities are distinct. No new model/spec, correctness threshold, CI configuration or merge rule is introduced. The existing build guide remains authoritative for producing the normal full bundle; users install the published AIPerf package. This stage follows its predecessor's merge and remains independently reviewable.

Risk level

  • Low
  • Medium
  • High

The change is confined to optional workload preparation, identity checks, reports and documentation; model computation and serving admission are unchanged.

📝 Summary

Summary

Adds optional AIPerf qualification for 12 prompts selected from a pinned SpecBench revision. Selection takes distinct, fitting original first turns in source order. It preserves prompt text and records selection, rejection, and unexamined-row details. It writes inputs for AIPerf’s existing single_turn loader.

The Qwen3-0.6B FP16 workload uses a 16-token output cap, concurrency one, 12 measured requests, and one warmup request. Preparation checks the source checksum and records a runtime audit. Verification checks prompt/output correlation, native timing scope, generation limits, and completion-token counts. The documentation identifies the workload as ordinary native generation only. It does not qualify speculative execution, acceptance metrics, or acceleration.

The reported pilot used published AIPerf 0.13.0 with the existing Qwen3-0.6B FP16 bundle on GB300. It reports 12 requests offered and completed, with none rejected. Reported validation includes 818 passing tests with 2 optional skips, 114 focused tests, and 8 Qwen end-to-end tests per profile invocation. The reported timing excludes startup, build, load, and warmup. The qualification applies only to the reported model, hardware, precision, and workload.

Architecture impact

  • Family-owned files: The change adds a Qwen-specific workload configuration. No family model, runtime, or correctness implementation change is reported. The runtime audit references families/qwen/runtime/pipeline.cpp.
  • Changed shared surfaces: text_corpus.py dispatches SpecBench preparation and verification. text_profile.py constrains SpecBench cases to one output-token cap. These changes affect shared text qualification paths.
  • Dependency direction: text_specbench.py uses shared prompt selection and profile utilities. text_corpus.py lazily dispatches SpecBench operations to text_specbench.py. No new package dependency is identified in the supplied evidence.
  • Affected consumers: Text-profile workloads using text_corpus.prepare, verify_and_record, or text_profile.cases use the modified shared paths. SpecBench-specific dispatch and constraints are selected by corpus format.
  • Review outcome — HUMAN REVIEW REQUIRED: The available evidence does not establish compatibility for all existing consumers of the changed shared paths. This outcome follows REVIEW.md; it does not assert that a violation was found or that the change is unsafe.

Adds a pinned Qwen3-0.6B SpecBench profile for ordinary native generation. It selects fitting prompts, records source and runtime audit details, and verifies output limits and timing metadata. Documentation distinguishes the corpus baseline from speculative-execution qualification.

Explanation

The PR satisfies the coding requirements in [#1683]. It pins and selects the SpecBench source, preserves original first-turn text, and materializes the selection for AIPerf single_turn. It uses published AIPerf 0.13.0 with the existing Qwen3-0.6B FP16 native bundle. The reported run records request identities, outputs, errors, rejections, warmup handling, and input/output/native joins. It separates client latency from public_task_call_wall. Reports label the result ordinary_native_generation, leave speculative execution and acceptance metrics unavailable, and record capability limits. Existing Qwen correctness checks run without changed references or criteria. The current-head evidence also retains the UTF-8 fixture handling and validation tests.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes remain within [#1683]. They add optional SpecBench preparation, verification, profiling configuration, tests, reports, and documentation. These changes support corpus qualification and required evidence. The PR does not add models, model specifications, speculative runtime support, serving behavior, numerical gates, or unrelated product changes.

Full details: Family Ownership Boundary

Explanation

PASS. The changed implementation adds generic SpecBench handling and dispatch in apps/aiperf_qual/trtmc_aiperf_qual/text_specbench.py:11-13,77-88 and text_corpus.py:66-75,133-150; it imports only shared AIPerf qualification modules. The only family-owned references are in the Qwen-specific config at qwen3-0.6b-specbench.yaml:22-29,40-44, which uses families/qwen/tests/test_e2e.py and families/qwen/runtime/pipeline.cpp for the same Qwen family. The PR changes no families/** files and no central registry, switch, source list, or strategy map. No cross-family dependency is introduced.

Full details: Benchmark Validation Integrity

Explanation

No benchmark-integrity failure is introduced. The new SpecBench path reuses the existing request join and summary contract (text_profile.py:166-243), which keeps client lifecycle metrics separate from native model_call_ms; the profile provenance declares non-streaming timing as public_task_call_wall (text_profile.py:271-272). The added verifier requires that scope, the configured generation cap, and an integer completion count within the cap (text_specbench.py:80-88), while inherited verification checks source/wire/native prompt and output identity (text_corpus.py:101-130). SpecBench cases reject output-cap sweeps (text_profile.py:114-125), so task units and generation work remain aligned. The configuration has one native workload and no reference implementation, and the new tests cover cap mismatch and changed generation work.

Full details: Shared Change Blast Radius

Explanation

The shared-surface impact is identified and bounded. The description states the model-agnostic need: qualify pinned corpus inputs through the existing native text path without adding speculative runtime, model specs, or family semantics. Repository evidence identifies affected consumers: text_profile drives text profiling, while text_corpus is shared by the ShareGPT, conversation, prefix, response, and new SpecBench paths. The diff dispatches only format: spec_bench; existing formats retain their paths. The cap restriction and report fields are also scoped to SpecBench. The README states that execution and Task handling are not model-specific, while family validation remains configured through validation_commands and validation_profile. No families/ files changed. The description reports full test, source-quality, website, family-E2E, and published AIPerf validation, and the new tests cover selection, compatibility constraints, and verification failure behavior.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description is complete and follows the repository template. It covers background, exit criteria, implementation, change category, validation results, environment and revisions, remaining gaps, self-review, future notes, and risk.

Full details: Shared Semantic Neutrality

Explanation

The pull request still adds dataset-specific and Qwen-specific semantics to shared AIPerf qualification code. text_corpus.py:67-69 and :137-139 add shared SpecBench dispatch. text_specbench.py:30-73 downloads, parses, selects, materializes, and audits the SpecBench dataset; :77-88 adds dataset-specific timing, output-cap, and completion-token validation. text_profile.py:119-120 and :340-342 add SpecBench-specific profile rules and report fields. The new shared configuration hard-codes Qwen3-0.6B, the Qwen E2E command, the Qwen runtime audit, and the SpecBench source at qwen3-0.6b-specbench.yaml:6-44. These changed files are outside the excluded family-owned directories, and the behavior is not supplied through an existing narrow generic corpus contract.

Resolution

Remove the SpecBench adapter, SpecBench branches, and Qwen-specific configuration and validation evidence from shared qualification code. Move dataset selection, verification, runtime audit, and model-specific workload configuration to a family-owned qualification tool or an existing plugin boundary. Keep the shared text profiler limited to its existing generic corpus contract, with specialization supplied by family-owned data. Update or remove the associated shared tests and documentation.

Current head de62d339214ec8b476e1596873ccf264bc9b884b: the protected automated premerge gate, Stable Community CI/CPU, metadata, DCO and CodeRabbit all pass, and the review conversation is resolved. Both unchanged full Qwen correctness cases and the actual pip-installed AIPerf SpecBench corpus run were reverified locally on GB300: twelve measured requests plus one separate warmup, all thirteen original/wire/native input-output identities and generation caps verified, with no errors. The original Unicode assertion also passes under an explicitly verified ASCII locale. All reports state ordinary native generation, with speculative execution unqualified and acceptance metrics unavailable.

The optional Dev Community CI lane is still running and has no completed result. This is not a reported model/GPU failure or a passing check. The existing workflow treats that lane as optional. Proceeding with the normal merge after the required checks passed, following the requested existing merge policy. No model contract, correctness criterion, CI configuration or merge rule was changed.
