Background

Prepare the shared Task SDK in one PR so subsequent production model-family
migrations can each stay within families/<name>/**. This PR covers contracts,
runtime dispatch and existing consumers together; it does not migrate the
production builders or runtimes themselves.

The family is the unit of ownership and parallel development. Families own
model-specific implementation and validation, never depend on another family,
and may duplicate model-specific code. Shared code supplies model-independent
contracts and mechanics, not a common model implementation.

Exit Criteria

  • Existing capabilities have shared contracts and consumer paths, with
    family-only migration evidence and no known shared prerequisite deferred to
    those migration PRs.
  • Configuration, ownership, lifecycle, installation and retained-client ABI
    checks preserve existing workloads, BYOK, benchmarks and examples.
  • Required Pre-merge checks pass on the current revision. Full Nightly success
    is not a merge prerequisite for this PR, by maintainer decision; incomplete
    Nightly qualification remains disclosed below. The actual merge is separate.

Implementation

Architecture and ownership

Read downward for the application-to-model execution order. Arrows show
dependencies or interface implementation, not necessarily control flow:

Application
    | uses
    v
trtmc.hpp: header-only C++ convenience API, compiled by the application
    | uses
    v
Public C ABI: opaque handles and typed function tables
    ^ implemented by
    |
Core Runtime: C entry-point implementations
    | calls through the bound interface pointer
    v
Shared internal C++ Task interfaces
    ^ implemented by
    |
Family Runtime: model implementation in its own DSO (shared library)
    | uses
    v
Bundle reader and execution backend

A C application starts directly at the C ABI. The Core Runtime's C entry points
call the family's virtual Task methods directly: there is no separate shared
adapter layer. Core owns loading, generic validation, error conversion and
public handle lifetimes; the family owns preprocessing, inference orchestration,
postprocessing and model-specific state. TensorRT handles engine execution.

The separate build path stays simple: a family's plain model.py::build(request, writer) constructs its graph, loads weights and writes its bundle through
BundleWriter. The Python builder must not inherit a shared builder base.
C++ runtime classes may implement multiple abstract Task interfaces.
Examples and benchmarks consume public build/runtime APIs; Core and families
do not depend on their implementation.

Contract / implementation Location and responsibility
User C++ wrapper and C declarations core/api/include/trtmc/; application-facing typed calls, errors and automatic handle release
C entry points core/api/runtime/; request conversion, validation and direct Task dispatch
Internal Task and Config contracts core/runtime/include/trtmc/internal/; required operands, outputs and lifecycle, without family implementations
Model implementation families/<name>/; builder, runtime, configuration, dependencies and tests

Binding is a record, not another runtime layer. The family implements
IModel::task_bindings() and calls bind<SharedTaskInterface>(*this, fields)
there. The shared helper records the contract ID/version, correctly adjusted
interface pointer and optional Config field table. Core snapshots these during
load. The call neither creates a model nor registers it in a global family list.
For example, inside a family's runtime class:

// Member declarations; the family supplies run() and its model implementation.
std::vector<trtmc::internal::TaskInstance> task_bindings() override {
    return {trtmc::internal::bind<trtmc::internal::ITextContinuation>(
        *this, sampling_fields_)};
}
trtmc::internal::TextResult run(
    const trtmc::internal::TextContinuationRequest&,
    trtmc::internal::ConfigView) override;

Here the class implements IModel and ITextContinuation; sampling_fields_
is an immutable, model-owned Config field table, not temporary storage.
Multiple implemented Tasks receive separate bindings. Advertise only Tasks
actually supported by the loaded bundle, not every interface in the library.

Tasks describe operands and execution; Config describes optional controls.
Different required images, frames, actions or state stay typed. Native batch,
streaming and single-request execution are separate contracts. Parameters such
as top_k and top_p use family-declared typed key/value fields. Core checks
names, duplicates and types; families resolve defaults and validate ranges and
combinations using config_get<T> / config_provided. Missing differs from
explicit zero, false or empty. Retained borrowed inputs must be copied or parsed
before the originating call returns.

The application binary boundary is C, not a C++ vtable.
trtmc_get_api(1, 0, &core) returns the core function table;
core->model_get_task_api(...) returns an exact-version typed Task table.
Function tables are the C calling mechanism, not a second plugin framework.
Core and Task versions are queried independently; only v1.0 is implemented,
and unsupported versions fail explicitly. Runtime, backend and family DSOs
ship together. The SDK remains experimental until its first stable release;
after stable publication, new table operations require a negotiated revision,
while breaking layouts or meanings require a new major contract.

Consumer paths prepared in this PR

  • Typed C contracts, header-only C++ wrappers, CLI, benchmark and existing example
    paths; retained readable text/media outputs, website discovery and SDK packaging.
  • Secondary Task selection without changing bundle identity or retrying an old
    execution path. Dataset benchmarks also support bound secondary text Tasks
    and translation with family-declared language defaults.
  • Four checkpoint-policy tests move into their owning families, preserving their
    assertions and automatic discovery. No production builder/runtime migration.
  • Optional families/<name>/tests/performance.yaml declarations can replace that
    family's central entries without editing the central suite. Existing reference
    adapters remain usable; model-specific reference scripts live in the family.
    Cross-family conflicts and unrelated exclusions remain protected.

A CPU-only ownership rehearsal covered 143 existing release entries across
111 families: 78 used family-local protocol scripts and 65 kept their generic
HF runner and original timing. This is not model or performance qualification.

Change categories

  • Model or runtime behavior
  • Public API
  • ABI
  • Bundle or artifact format
  • Dependencies
  • Documentation only
  • CI or developer tooling

SDK/wheel payloads change; bundle format 1 does not. This source PR does not
change runner configuration, add model exclusions or weaken numerical criteria.

  • Reviewed consumer regressions were reproduced before their fixes, then passed.
    Installed C/C++ SDK checks and four existing device-free example checks passed
    at 3b995184; their relevant sources are unchanged by the latest follow-up.

These checks do not establish full Nightly or all-checkpoint qualification.

Hardware, Environment, and Revisions

Local validation used Linux/aarch64 and the repository's isolated, GPU-free CPU
flow. CI results refer to the tested merge above; local and merged-source counts
are separate. Protocol fixtures are not trained-model qualification. Runtime,
backend and family DSOs are released together; application C++ wrappers compile
against the public C ABI.

Not Run / Remaining Gaps

  • Full single-device Nightly qualification is incomplete; failed, cancelled and
    unexecuted results are not counted as passes. It is non-blocking for this PR
    under the revised Pre-merge-only acceptance decision, not a claim of all-model
    correctness or a change to test thresholds.
  • No multi-device execution. Earlier individual single-device or recorded-engine
    proofs do not qualify every checkpoint or establish performance.
  • Production family migrations and their numerical qualification follow in
    separate family-owned PRs.

technical and publication reviews.

Notes For Future Readers

Next: one production family per migration PR

After this PR merges, branch from current main and migrate one family at a time.
Start with the rehearsed PatchTSMixer and timm MobileNetV3 families as small
production migrations, then move through the remaining families. This is a
suggested order, not a new dependency between families; independent migrations
can proceed in parallel. Do not treat a rehearsal as an already merged migration.

  1. Inventory the whole family's existing behavior. Map every primary and
    secondary capability to an existing Task, including batch, streams/sessions,
    raw outputs and control features where supported. Record unchanged workloads,
    defaults, preprocessing and reference criteria before editing.
  2. Implement and bind inside the family. Keep computation and orchestration
    local; implement the chosen interfaces, return their bindings, and declare
    Config fields/defaults/range checks locally. Add dependencies only to that
    family's optional requirements.txt; no sibling-family imports or builder
    inheritance.
  3. Update identity and consumers together. Align support.py, the builder's
    bundle primary Task and owned manifests. Build/primary modes and loaded-bundle
    Task bindings need not be identical. Use selected_task for secondary benchmark
    cases, without changing the bundle's primary identity. Rebuild bundles whose
    primary Task changes. Move model-specific performance/reference declarations
    into the family's existing test structure when needed.
  4. Prove the smallest E2E first, then preserve the full scope. Run one real
    build/load/run; then direct C/C++, existing CLI/examples/benchmarks and each
    supported lifecycle. Preserve complete outputs, meaningful defaults, existing
    numerical criteria and human-readable input/output evidence. Report untested
    configurations explicitly; a working demo is not full family qualification.
  5. Review the boundary and run Pre-merge. The migration diff stays entirely
    under families/<name>/**. No Core, shared headers, CLI, website, central test
    list or workflow edits. If an existing capability exposes a shared bug, fix
    it separately before completing the family migration; do not silently drop
    the capability or hide the shared change in the family PR.

Use the family's existing layout; these are common edit locations, not a demand
to create unused files:

families/<name>/
  support.py # exact identity and build/primary Task modes
  model.py # plain build(request, writer), no base class
  requirements.txt               # optional family-specific dependencies
  runtime/ # Task implementation, bindings and Config
  tests/
    test_support.py              # identity/default assertions; auto-discovered
    test_e2e.py                  # real family-owned oracle and input/output evidence
    manifests/*.json # build mode, workload and secondary Task selection
    thresholds/*.json # existing numerical criteria, when present
    performance.yaml # optional owned performance entries
    performance_reference.py    # optional model-specific reference
Future change Expected edit boundary
Migrate a family or implement another existing Task That family's implementation, declarations and tests only
Add top_k or another Config field using an existing value type That family's field table, implementation and tests; no C layout change
Introduce genuinely new operands, output semantics, lifecycle or Config value type Separate shared contract/API and consumer change first, then family implementation

The SDK defines more Tasks than each frontend exposes. Preserving an existing
workload does not promise a new CLI command for every SDK contract. Do not encode
a missing typed operand as arbitrary Config to avoid a necessary shared change.

Title: refactor(<family>): migrate to semantic Task SDK

Background:
  Migrate <family>'s existing runtime, preserving <existing capabilities>.
  Shared prerequisite: #1226. Changed paths: families/<family>/** only.

Exit Criteria:
  Existing capability -> Task ID/version -> preserved validation:
    <primary behavior>   -> <Task> -> <case and oracle>
    <secondary/batch/stateful behavior, if supported> -> <Task> -> <case>
  No capability removal, weaker criteria or cross-family dependency.

Implementation:
  Primary Task: <old> -> <new>; bundle rebuild: <needed / why not>.
  Implemented interfaces and bindings: <list>.
  Config fields/defaults and missing-versus-explicit behavior: <list>.
  Output/lifetime mapping, reference and dependency changes: <details>.
  Change categories: <select applicable boxes in the repository template>.

Validation:
  Commands and Results:
    <exact minimal build/load/run command> -> <actual result>
    <family tests and original parity checks> -> <actual result>
    <C/C++, secondary Tasks, lifecycle and error checks> -> <actual result>
    <existing CLI/example/benchmark workloads> -> <actual result>
    <current-head Pre-merge> -> <result/link>
  Hardware, Environment, and Revisions:
    <source and checkpoint revisions; relevant software/device/precision>
  Not Run / Remaining Gaps:
    <explicit untested configurations and residual risks>

Contributor Self-Review:
  Confirm family-only diff, full capability mapping, unchanged criteria and
  public-evidence review; check the repository's self-review box when done.

Notes For Future Readers:
  <bundle rebuild instructions, known limitations and follow-ups>
  Risk level: <select one in the repository template, with rationale>.

Review entry points: website/docs/api/cpp-api.md,
website/docs/extend/add-model-family.md,
website/docs/extend/add-config-schema.md, then the public headers and tests.
Existing unmigrated families keep their current execution path; an SDK failure
never retries it. After the last family migrates, remove obsolete shared
execution interfaces in a separate cleanup PR, not in the last family's PR.
No new compatibility adapter or automatic fallback is introduced.

Risk level

  • Low
  • Medium
  • High

This changes a broad ABI/application surface. CPU protocol coverage complements,
but does not replace, appropriate real-model qualification and current CI.

📝 Summary

Summary

Adds an experimental semantic Task C ABI and header-only C++ SDK. The SDK provides typed contracts, validation, ownership, lifecycle handling, streaming, batching, CLI dispatch, packaging, examples, and documentation.

Updates benchmark task selection, dataset execution, timing contracts, media handling, result reporting, dataframe utilities, and family-owned performance suites. Existing workloads and bundle format 1 remain supported. SDK failures do not retry through legacy paths. No production family migration is included.

Reported validation includes 1,696 Python tests, 203 CTests, native targets, and website tests/builds. Protected premerge checks, final packaging, Nightly validation, multi-device execution, production migrations, and numerical qualification remain pending.

Architecture impact

Family-owned files

Family fixtures and family performance declarations now own task bindings, defaults, configuration fields, request preparation, output contracts, and reference behavior. Updated family-support tests cover Eagle VLM, Moge, Qwen3.8, and Qwen Image ownership. Production family implementations are not migrated.

Shared surfaces

  • Versioned C headers under core/api/include/trtmc/.
  • Header-only C++ wrappers for text, audio, image, video, language, numeric, perception, recurrent, speech, streaming, structure, tracking, control, and feature tasks.
  • trtmc_get_api and the shared trtmc_c library.
  • Shared configuration conversion, task binding, result ownership, validation, and dispatch layers.
  • CMake exports, SDK/runtime package components, console entry points, and installed-consumer checks.
  • Benchmark catalog, worker, reporting, dataframe, timing, and performance-suite infrastructure.

Dependency directions

Applications, examples, and benchmarks use the public C ABI and C++ SDK. The C++ SDK uses the C ABI. The C runtime adapter uses internal Task contracts. Family runtimes implement internal Task contracts. Public SDK headers do not depend on internal, device, or application headers.

Affected consumers

The native CLI, benchmark workers, CMake and Conan consumers, Python package commands, audio, action, perception, structure, video, and voice examples, website inventory tooling, and external C/C++ SDK consumers.

Unresolved blast-radius questions

Production family migration remains pending. Multi-device behavior, protected premerge checks, final packaging, Nightly validation, and numerical qualification remain unverified. Compatibility between legacy runtime paths and future migrated SDK families requires follow-up. Review finding counts are unavailable because no current findings were supplied.

Review outcome

HUMAN REVIEW REQUIRED

  • PASS: not asserted.
  • BLOCK: not asserted.
  • Human review remains required because material migration, compatibility, packaging, measurement, and qualification evidence remains pending.

Walkthrough

This pull request introduces an experimental Task SDK: a versioned C ABI plus a header-only C++ wrapper covering text, audio, image, video, numeric, perception, tracking, speech, language, action, structure, and recurrent tasks. It adds runtime implementations, internal task contracts, CLI dispatch on top of the SDK, updated benchmark tooling, migrated example applications, revised build/packaging with separate runtime and SDK components, and updated documentation and CI.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 4.74% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 887 functions across 69 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)

Full details: Family Ownership Boundary

Explanation

The PR adds family-specific reference implementations to the central benchmark adapter and registers them in central strategy maps. apps/benchmark/performance/baselines/task_reference.py:1729-1901 adds _load_voicechat and _load_moge; lines 79, 86, 92, 99, and 2273-2274 add nemo-voicechat and upstream-moge to ADAPTERS, PYTORCH_ADAPTERS, and LOADERS. The owning families are nemotron_voicechat (families/nemotron_voicechat/support.py:4-14) and moge (families/moge/support.py:4-27), with their reference sources under each family’s tests/reference-source.json. New shared tests directly invoke these central handlers (apps/benchmark/trtmc_benchmark/tests/test_perf_matrix.py:581-700 and 1169-1188). This requires central strategy-map edits for family-specific reference support. The changed family support tests otherwise use only the shared model_support contract and show no sibling-family imports.

Resolution

Move the VoiceChat reference implementation, constant, and its tests/fixtures into families/nemotron_voicechat/tests/. Move the MoGe reference implementation and its tests/fixtures into families/moge/tests/. Add owner-local performance declarations that point to these family-local scripts. Remove nemo-voicechat and upstream-moge from the central ADAPTERS, PYTORCH_ADAPTERS, and LOADERS maps. Keep only model-agnostic runner, timing, result-contract, and family-path validation in shared benchmark code.

Full details: Shared Semantic Neutrality

Explanation

Shared semantic neutrality is violated in apps/benchmark/trtmc_benchmark/task_adapters.py, which is changed shared benchmark code outside a family directory. The new _semantic_media_request() branch for the generic task ID image_text_action_to_video hard-codes SANA-specific policy: it rejects image_paths, requires action and camera_intrinsics, validates their types, and forwards SANA controls translation_speed, rotation_speed_deg, fps, flow_shift, and no_action_overlay (head lines 763-779; the patch adds this branch). The owning implementation is families/sana_wm, where these controls and camera/action semantics are family-owned. The shared adapter therefore adds model-specific configuration and request validation instead of receiving specialization through a narrow family-owned contract.

Resolution

Remove the SANA-specific branch and literal SANA policy from the shared benchmark adapter. Move action/camera input preparation, validation, and SANA control mapping to the sana_wm family-owned benchmark/reference hook or another existing narrow family contract. Keep the shared adapter limited to model-agnostic Task request transport and generic validation. Preserve the family-owned manifest values and add or retain family-owned tests for the moved behavior.

Keep model behavior inside each family while giving applications a C binary
boundary and user-compiled C++ convenience wrappers. Add the shared typed
contracts, direct dispatch, family-owned configuration transport, ownership,
packaging and consumer paths needed for family-by-family migration.

Preserve existing application workloads during explicit primary-Task migration;
do not retry failures through old interfaces. Keep family policy tests in their
own directories without removing them from the CPU premerge invocation.

The SDK remains experimental pending its first stable release. Protocol and
host-pipeline tests do not establish model accuracy, GPU execution or full-wheel
qualification.

Preserve the test-only replacement deallocation boundary under Release

malloc-backed operator-new replacement as mismatched allocation/deallocation.

Keep all failure-injection assertions, optimization flags and strict warnings.
No runtime, ABI, CI gate or runner configuration changes.

Replace repeated semantic Task discovery with family-owned typed bindings.
Validate declared configuration names and kinds before execution while keeping
defaults, ranges, state ownership and model behavior inside each family.

Extend shared image-only detection, molecular-structure and existing Task
consumer paths, preserve readable reports, and fix the SDK wheel install
layout. Keep unknown embedding-space identity explicit rather than inventing
an identifier or requiring new user configuration.

Production family migrations remain separate. This update does not claim
complete family migration or final performance qualification.

Add head-score and deterministic-regression contracts without changing

Add shape and representation contracts for head scores, geometry,
structures, refined poses, and offline speech. Preserve the existing
release entries, exclusions, timing policy, and family accuracy thresholds.

Keep explicit offline reference selection separate from bundle identity.
Real reference implementations and production migrations remain family-owned.

Resolve structure preparation through the existing callable family hook,
without requiring the legacy structure_prediction task name. A family can
adopt the molecular-document Task without losing its preparation command
or adding another shared allowlist entry.

Keep the missing-hook error and all existing builder tests. Add coverage
for semantic-task dispatch, default cache forwarding, prepared output,
and absent or non-callable hooks.

Validation: all 83 builder tests pass; Ruff and git diff --check pass.
This change does not migrate production families or alter CI criteria.

Add a distinct global-pooled image token role so a family's complete
feature matrix can retain its pooled prefix without calling it a CLS
token or removing that row. Keep the existing C layouts and task tables.

Carry the role through result validation, CLI JSON and benchmark
observations. Add C11 and header-only C++17 tests for complete values,
shape, metadata and result ownership, plus CLI and worker regressions.
Unknown token roles still fail without a partial result.

No production family migration or test threshold changes are included.

Keep semantic benchmark parameter names and explicit Config values intact,
and separate SANA reference metadata from native per-call configuration.
Allow serial action queue/chunk calls with explicit reentry protection and
accept complete model-local classification scores without invented labels.

Retain measured audio, image, video and dialogue artifacts in readable
benchmark reports. Preserve unknown output identities and borrowed-buffer
lifetimes, reuse the segmentation session, and route structure preparation
through the existing family builder.

Keep production family migrations out of this shared-infrastructure update.
Validation includes 61 native core/SDK/application tests, 958 benchmark
Python tests with two optional skips, source checks, and the website build.
These results do not claim checkpoint, GPU, or final-head CI qualification.

Canonicalize only the names used for the output contract signature. Preserve parameter values and storage order, target shapes, and existing validation.

Cover all three supported distributions and retain mismatch rejection.

Resolve a prompt-compatible primary or a unique bound secondary Task before execution. Allow explicit selection without retrying another Task or the existing family path.

Preserve workload defaults, complete outputs, timing and bundle identity. Support translation with family-declared language defaults and cover ambiguous, unavailable and legacy selections.

Wrap the test body in try/catch so a thrown exception reports a diagnostic.

write_bundle throws, and the later nlohmann::json::parse calls also throw on unexpected output. main has no handler, so the process calls std::terminate without a message. The other new SDK CLI tests (for example test_sdk_features_cli.cpp and test_sdk_audio_cli.cpp) catch std::exception and print it. Align this file with that pattern to keep CI failures diagnosable.

Remove the model name from this core contract comment.

Line 95 names a specific model architecture ("the SANA contracts") to define the intrinsics layout for ImageTextActionToVideoRequest and ImageTextCameraTrajectoryToVideoRequest. core/ holds model-agnostic contracts. State the layout requirement without the family reference, for example "Intrinsics are [1 or F,9] row-major 3x3 matrices in initial-image pixel coordinates." The remaining sentences already assign dialect and sampling defaults to the family.

As per path instructions for core/**: "Flag literal model/family names, family conditionals, model topology or tensor semantics".

Add the failing item index to every batch conversion error.

history_audio_batch_run (Lines 387-399) wraps per-item conversion and rethrows with "batch item[" + index + "]: ". The other batch converters in this file do not. A caller that submits a large batch with one invalid audio view or one invalid config receives an error message that does not identify the item. Apply the same indexed wrapping in the remaining loops:

existing family_loader.h include so its use of std::runtime_error compiles
portably.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Read semantic text controls from both testcase levels.

_text_controls builds semantic requests with include_defaults=False. For every control except temperature, it ignores inputs. Therefore nested max_new_tokens, top_k, top_p, min_p, seed, repetition_penalty, use_chat_template, and enable_thinking do not reach the request. The existing _explicit helper already resolves testcase-level and nested values and rejects duplicates. This omission can change the family-selected defaults and the benchmark workload.

In `@apps/benchmark/trtmc_benchmark/task_adapters.py` at line 825, Update the
source selection in _text_controls so every semantic control resolves values
from both testcase levels through the existing _explicit helper, rather than
only checking case except for temperature. Preserve duplicate rejection and
include the nested inputs values for max_new_tokens, top_k, top_p, min_p, seed,

patchelf --set-rpath symlink replaces symlink rename temporary file behavior

💡 Result:

<search_synthesis>
When running patchelf on a symbolic link (e.g., using --set-rpath), the utility does not follow the symlink to modify the target file [1]. Instead, it replaces the symbolic link itself with a new, regular file containing the modified ELF header [1]. This behavior means that the original symlink is deleted and replaced by a concrete file that holds the changes [1]. The underlying file that the symlink previously pointed to remains unchanged [1]. This implementation detail is a known behavior of patchelf [1]. Users should be aware that if they apply patchelf to a symlink, they will break any other links or references that relied on that symlink to reach the original target, as the symlink is effectively "de-referenced" and converted into a standalone binary at the symlink&#39;s location [1].

In particular, it can do the following: - Change the dynamic loader ("ELF interpreter") of executables: ``` $ patchelf --set-interpreter /lib/my-ld-linux.so.2 my-program ``` - Change the `RPATH` of executables and libraries: ``` $ patchelf --set-rpath /opt/my-libs/lib:/other-libs my-program ``` - Shrink the `RPATH` of executables and libraries: ``` $ patchelf --shrink-rpath my-program ``` This removes from the `RPATH` all directories that do not contain a library referenced by `DT_NEEDED` fields of the executable or library. For instance, if an executable references one library `libfoo.so`, has an RPATH `/lib:/usr/lib:/foo/lib`, and `libfoo.so` can only be found in `/foo/lib`, then the new `RPATH` will be `/foo/lib`. In addition, the `--allowed-rpath-prefixes` option can be used for further rpath tuning. For instance, if an executable has an `RPATH` `/tmp/build-foo/.libs:/foo/lib`, it is probably desirable to keep the `/foo/lib` reference instead of the `/tmp` entry. To accomplish that, use: ``` $ patchelf --shrink-rpath --allowed-rpath-prefixes /usr/lib:/foo/lib my-program ``` - Remove declared dependencies on dynamic libraries (`DT_NEEDED` entries): ``` $ patchelf --remove-needed libfoo.so.1 my-program ``` This option can be given multiple times. - Add a declared dependency on a dynamic library (`DT_NEEDED`): ``` $ patchelf --add-needed libfoo.so.1 my-program ``` This option can be give multiple times. - Replace a declared dependency on a dynamic library with another one (`DT_NEEDED`): ``` $ patchelf --replace-needed liboriginal.so.1 libreplacement.so.1 my-program ``` This option can be give multiple times. - Change `SONAME` of a dynamic library: ``` $ patchelf --set-soname libnewname.so.3.4.5 path/to/libmylibrary.so.1.2.3 ``` ### Via GNU Autotools ``` ./bootstrap.sh ./configure make make check sudo make install ``` ### Via CMake (and Ninja) ``` mkdir build cd build cmake .. -GNinja ninja all sudo ninja install ``` ### Via Meson (and Ninja) ``` mkdir build meson configure build cd build ninja all sudo ninja install ``` ### Via Nix You can build with Nix in several ways. 1. Building via `nix build` will produce the result in `./result/bin/patchelf`. If you would like to build patchelf with musl try `nix build .#patchelf-musl` 2. You can launch a development environment with `nix develop` and follow the autotools steps above. If you would like to develop with musl try `nix develop .#musl` ## Help and resources - Matrix: `#patchelf`:nixos.org ## Author Copyright 2004-2019 Eelco Dolstra edolstra@gmail.com. #…[truncated] <title>patchelf(1) — Arch manual pages</title> https://man.archlinux.org/man/extra/patchelf/patchelf.1.en patchelf(1) — Arch manual pages | PATCHELF(1) | User Manuals | PATCHELF(1) | | --- | --- | --- | # NAME patchelf - Modify ELF files # SYNOPSIS patchelf OPTION FILE ... # DESCRIPTION PatchELF is a simple utility for modifying existing ELF executables and libraries. Resolve the installed library path before invoking patchelf.

trtmc_c installs libtrtmc_c.so as a namelink to the versioned regular file libtrtmc_c.so.1. _set_runpath passes both paths to patchelf, which replaces the namelink with a regular ELF file instead of following it. The later .so.1 call sets RUNPATH on the versioned file, but the package still loses the namelink and stores two copies. The hard-coded .so.1 name also becomes stale if SOVERSION changes.

🔧 Proposed change: patch resolved targets only

+ for library in {path.resolve() for path in shared_runtime}:

Handle batch_image_to_class_scores as a class-score task. The SDK declares this task in core/api/include/trtmc/features.h:468 and core/runtime/include/trtmc/internal/features.h:404. _is_classification_task does not recognize it, and _OUTPUT_NAMES has no entry for it. The report can therefore label batch class results as generic numeric output and skip classification rendering.

Add batch_image_to_class_scores to both classification mappings. The evidence does not support the specific audio_to_class_scores or text_to_class_scores examples.

Preserve explicit semantic controls and crop callback exceptions, reject
colliding structure output paths, and recognize the sdk CMake component.

Exercise the installed C++ wrapper. Keep example transition helpers
example-owned and reference defaults in their existing adapter. Strengthen
owning resolver checks and clarify the documented contracts.

Retain existing model workloads, C ABI layouts and execution selection.

Addressed the verified review findings in 3b995184df27820e2a80136e57ba3b48ba0759c6:

  • Semantic text controls now preserve both supported input locations and reject duplicates, without changing existing-mode defaults.
  • Structure and metadata destinations cannot be the same normalized path. C++ crop callbacks retain the caller's exception; the C boundary still returns status codes.
  • find_package(trtmc REQUIRED COMPONENTS sdk) works, and the installed C++ smoke actually calls a wrapper.
  • Examples own their transition helper instead of including application-private code. All existing Task IDs and execution behavior are retained.
  • Reference-only defaults live in the existing reference adapter. The generic runner passes the exact manifest testcase separately from the performance entry ID; custom scripts and HF commands are unchanged.
  • Owning resolver assertions and the requested API/dependency documentation are strengthened.

Several suggestions did not justify a behavior change. Invalid conversation tags are already rejected before union access. The existing packaging operation preserved both symlinks while changing the real ELF's RUNPATH in a non-noop test. The current speech family retains the requested device rates. Mapping hypothetical batch classification output to the single-item renderer hid numeric output in a two-item regression probe, so that mapping was not added. The optional diagnostic-message nits are left unchanged.

Local full CPU validation passed: 1,696 Python tests passed with 2 existing skips, all native targets built, and 203 CTests passed with 7 existing no-device skips and no failures (210 total). Website tests/build passed. These are local results; current-head remote gates must still complete. No merge has been performed.

Move SANA-WM testcase interpretation into a family-owned adapter.

This shared runner resolves SANA-WM-specific fields and copies them into adapter options. This makes the benchmark layer own family request semantics.

Keep this file limited to task-agnostic runner inputs. Put the testcase-field mapping in the SANA-WM family performance implementation.

As per path instructions: apps/benchmark/**: “Flag family behavior embedded in shared benchmark code.”

Let validated family declarations replace their own release entries
without a central edit. Activate their named models for validation while
retaining other exclusions and cross-family conflict checks.

Keep builtin and legacy test fixtures explicit so family-owned references
and semantic Task declarations do not require shared test changes.
Cover ordering, original criteria, profile activation and real subprocess
dispatch without adding production family migrations.

The ownership review exposed a real shared gap: family declarations could add a new entry, but could not take over an existing central entry without another shared edit.

Commit 7a1046cc06501f3aa85d01e37e3dadd34fa2e76b closes that gap. A validated family declaration can replace its own entry in place, or enable its explicitly declared model for validation. It cannot replace another family's entry or add exclusions. Other exclusions, duplicate checks, coverage and comparison rules remain intact. A declaration is not qualification.

We also reproduced and corrected shared tests that assumed an active entry always used a builtin adapter or a family's primary Task always remained legacy. The original workload, numeric, timing and error assertions are retained; canonical coverage still uses the effective family-owned composition.

Independent CPU rehearsals passed for Sana-owned declarations with both legacy and semantic Tasks, and for all 143 existing release entries across 111 families. Of those, 78 model-specific references used family-local protocol fixtures; 65 retained the generic HF runner and its timing. A newly added family-owned READY profile was checked as well. No real model or performance qualification is inferred from these fixtures.

Production family reference implementations remain separate family-owned migrations. Their original entries can now be taken over without changing shared code; unused builtin reference code can be removed during the later shared cleanup. This commit changes only shared composition, tests and documentation. New-head remote checks still need to finish.

Migrate timm CrossViT to the semantic Task SDK introduced by #1226,
following the timm_mobilenetv3 migration (#1308) pattern exactly, as
already applied to timm_mobilevit. Every changed file is under
families/timm_crossvit/; the shared C ABI, C++ wrapper, CLI, benchmark
and CI discovery already support this Task.

- Implement IModel and IImageToClassScores; the family returns its
  own bind record with no optional runtime Config fields.
- Update support, build and the owned manifest to
  image_to_class_scores. Return complete owned logits, not a top-k
  subset or softmax probabilities.
- Carry class count and checkpoint-provided labels/vocabulary identity
  in the family's runtime metadata, matching mobilenetv3's exact
  validation: missing identity stays empty, never an invented name or
  local checkpoint path.
- Add families/timm_crossvit/tests/test_support.py: a dependency-free
  identity/default-task test, required once a family implements a real
  semantic Task interface (tools/tests/test_architecture.py).
- Add a CPU task-contract test covering binding, unknown/explicit class
  identity, normalization, complete owned output, and rejection of
  invalid input or unsupported Config before inference.
- Add direct public C11 and C++17 SDK consumers
  (tests/sdk_consumer.{c,cpp}) to the existing official-checkpoint E2E.
  These are copied verbatim from timm_mobilenetv3's consumers: they
  use only the public, task-level C/C++ API with no family-specific
  symbol, so the same binaries apply unchanged to any family
  implementing image_to_class_scores. Both receive identical decoded
  RGB input and must agree on every score; the original JPEG CLI path
  and timm top-1 reference check are unchanged.
- Update both the manifest and tests/benchmark/*.yaml qualification
  file's task field; nothing else in that schema changes (confirmed
  against timm_mobilenetv3's own already-migrated benchmark yaml on
  main).

### Validation

Offline (this development machine, no GPU/TensorRT available):

- tools/tests/test_architecture.py: 55 passed.

- families/timm_crossvit/tests/test_model.py: 14 passed.
- families/timm_crossvit/tests/test_support.py: 2 passed (new).

Not run: the C++ side (pipeline.h/.cpp/plugin.cpp, CMakeLists.txt
additions, the new CPU task-contract test, and both SDK consumers)
has not been compiled, and no real-checkpoint GPU E2E has been run.
This machine has no CUDA/TensorRT. Unlike a from-scratch graph change,
no inference math changes here: families/timm_crossvit/model.py's
TensorRT graph-construction code (_build_engine and everything it
calls) is untouched by this migration, so the proven inference path
is unaffected; the new code is interface-binding and metadata plumbing
copied near-verbatim from timm_mobilenetv3's already-merged, already
GPU-verified migration. Expect Community CPU/Source-quality CI to
catch a compile-time issue immediately if one exists; will follow up
on whatever CI reports.

Migrate distilbert to the semantic Task SDK introduced by NVIDIA#1226, per the
migration epic NVIDIA#1430 (child issue NVIDIA#1446, claimed in that issue's comments
before this work started). Unlike the prior timm_mobilevit/timm_crossvit
migrations (NVIDIA#1561, NVIDIA#1580), there is no already-merged reference PR for
this shape of family: distilbert's shared `EncoderPipeline` class (also
duplicated near-verbatim by several sibling families: albert, bert,
convbert, deberta, electra, modernbert, mpnet, roberta, xlnet, dpr,
eagle_vlm) currently implements three retired string-task interfaces
(`IEmbedding`/`IEncoding`/`IReranking` in trtmc/task.h) with no semantic
Task equivalent shipped by anyone yet. This PR establishes that mapping.

## Task mapping

- `embedding` -> `text_to_embedding` (`ITextToEmbedding`): unchanged
  mean-pool-then-L2-normalize sentence embedding.
- `encoding` -> `text_to_pooled_features` (`ITextToPooledFeatures`):
  unchanged CLS-token extraction. This is the only capability with an
  existing checkpoint case/manifest/E2E oracle for this family; `embedding`
  and `reranking` are preserved code paths with no prior test coverage here.
- `reranking` -> `text_pair_to_relevance` (`ITextPairToRelevance`) *plus*
  `text_query_documents_to_relevance` (`ITextQueryDocumentsToRelevance`):
  the retired `IReranking` interface required `rerank_batch(query,
  documents)` as part of its own contract, so a reranking bundle now binds
  both the single-pair and the shared-query/multi-document semantic Tasks,
  fully preserving that secondary capability instead of letting it become
  an orphaned C++-only convenience.

Confirmed before writing any code that the public C/C++ SDK
(`core/api/include/trtmc/features.h`/`.hpp`) and the native CLI's generic
Task dispatch (`apps/cli/sdk_features.cpp`) already fully support all four
Task IDs above, including routing the existing `encode`/`embed`/`rerank`
CLI commands to them once a bundle declares the new primary task
(`apps/task_runtime.h`'s `uses_existing_task_runtime` already excludes any
task not on its retired-interface list). No shared/core file is touched;
everything is under `families/distilbert/**`.

## Implementation

- `support.py` / `model.py`: task names renamed to the three semantic IDs
  above; `build()`'s task validation updated to match. No change to
  `_build_engine`/`load_weights`/checkpoint parsing/tokenizer-contract
  logic — the TensorRT graph and tokenizer framing are completely untouched.
- `runtime/pipeline.h` / `pipeline.cpp`: `EncoderPipeline` now implements
  `internal::IModel` + `ITextToEmbedding` + `ITextToPooledFeatures` +
  `ITextPairToRelevance` + `ITextQueryDocumentsToRelevance` in place of the
  four retired interfaces. `task_bindings()` advertises only the Task(s)
  matching the bundle's own declared mode; every `run()` for a Task this
  bundle was not built for now raises `UnsupportedTask` instead of the old
  `embed()`'s silent fallback to an un-pooled, un-normalized result when
  called against a non-embedding bundle (a latent correctness gap in the
  retired code, fixed here, not exercised by any existing test). Prior
  token-ID-based testing/internal access (`encode_ids`) is now the public
  `TextSource` token-ids variant on `ITextToPooledFeatures`'s own request,
  which the native CLI's `--token-ids` option already sends.
- `runtime/plugin.cpp`: `require_task` checks the three new Task IDs.
- `tests/cpp/test_task_contract.cpp` (new): CPU-only contract test with a
  recording fake `ITrtModule` and tokenizer -- per-mode binding counts
  (including the dual pair/batch bindings for reranking), CLS extraction,
  mean-pool+L2 embedding math, single and batched relevance scoring,
  token-ids bypassing the tokenizer, rejection of a mismatched Task via
  `UnsupportedTask`, rejection of unsupported `Config` and empty input
  before any engine call, and constructor validation.
- `tests/sdk_consumer.c` / `tests/sdk_consumer.cpp` (new): written against
  `TRTMC_TASK_TEXT_TO_POOLED_FEATURES`/`trtmc::TextToPooledFeatures`, the
  one capability with real checkpoint coverage -- no `timm_mobilenetv3`-
  style precedent exists for this Task, so these were written directly
  from the public C/C++ SDK headers rather than copied from a sibling.
- `tests/test_e2e.py`: task string and native `encode` output updated
  (`pooling`/`normalization` fields now present and checked); added
  `_assert_sdk_consumers`, run for the single-GPU manifest only (the tp4
  manifest's multi-process `mpirun` launch is out of scope for these
  single-process SDK consumers).
- `tests/test_model.py` (new), `tests/test_support.py` (new): `build()`
  task-guard coverage for all three accepted and all three retired task
  names, and dependency-free identity/default-task resolution.
- Both `tests/manifests/*.json`: `task` field updated to
  `text_to_pooled_features` (unchanged otherwise).

### Validation

Offline (this development machine, no GPU/TensorRT available):

- tools/tests/test_architecture.py: 55 passed.
- qualification_tests/.../test_perf_matrix.py: 156 passed.
- families/distilbert/tests/test_model.py: 9 passed (new).
- families/distilbert/tests/test_support.py: 2 passed (new).

Not run, and higher risk than a copy-paste migration: the C++ side
(pipeline.h/.cpp/plugin.cpp, CMakeLists.txt additions, the new CPU
contract test, and both SDK consumers) has not been compiled -- this
machine has no CUDA toolkit, so even the C++ headers this code depends on
(`cuda_runtime_api.h`) are unavailable locally -- and no real-checkpoint
GPU E2E has been run. Unlike the timm migrations, this is first-of-kind
code for these four Tasks: there is no already-merged PR to diff against,
so I read the full public SDK (`features.h`/`.hpp`), the shared CLI
dispatch (`apps/cli/sdk_features.cpp`, `apps/cli/sdk_dispatch.h`), and
`apps/task_runtime.h` directly to confirm the design before writing any
pipeline code, and traced every new construct by hand since I could not
compile it. I expect Community CPU/Source-quality CI to catch a
compile-time mistake immediately if one exists, and will follow up on
whatever CI reports rather than claim verification I have not done.

* refactor(encoders): migrate electra, mpnet and xlnet to Task SDK

Migrate three families that duplicate distilbert's EncoderPipeline
(byte-identical pipeline.cpp, plugin and tests layout) to the semantic Task
SDK introduced by #1226, per the migration epic #1430 (child issues #1450,
Task mapping, binding design and GPU evidence for this shape are in the
distilbert migration, #1581; each family still owns its own copy, as the
repository's family-ownership rules require.

- embedding -> text_to_embedding, encoding -> text_to_pooled_features,
  reranking -> text_pair_to_relevance plus text_query_documents_to_relevance
  (keeps the retired IReranking contract's rerank_batch).
- EncoderPipeline implements IModel and the four semantic interfaces,
  advertises only the Task its bundle was built for, rejects any other Task
  with UnsupportedTask, and rejects inputs beyond the engine's input_ids
  capacity before inference.
- Pooling is reported honestly per family: electra's first token is [CLS]
  ("cls"); mpnet's and xlnet's first token is not a CLS pooling convention,
  so they report "first_token". The computation is unchanged.
- mpnet keeps its declared default (the embedding mode), now
  text_to_embedding.
- Each family gets a CPU contract test, public C and C++ SDK consumers,
  build() task-guard tests and a dependency-free support test. Manifests and
  benchmark YAML change only their task field; the benchmark tooling already
  maps these Task IDs.

Validation, offline: test_architecture 55 passed, test_perf_matrix 156
passed, 9 family Python tests per family. GPU evidence is in the pull
request.

* fix(encoders): send the engine's full padded input on every call

The electra, mpnet and xlnet engines declare a fixed input_ids and
attention_mask length, and the runtime copies only the bytes it is given
into persistent device buffers of that length. run_encoder() passed just
the n real tokens, so a shorter input after a longer one left the earlier
call's tokens and attention mask in the tail and the result attended to
them. A fresh process is unaffected (the buffers start zeroed), which is
why the single-call E2E and parity checks pass; repeated calls in one
process, such as the batched relevance Task, returned wrong scores for any
input shorter than an earlier one (measured on an RTX 4090: electra 0.376
vs 0.239 alone, xlnet 3.44 vs 2.44, Hugging Face 0.238 and 2.446).

Pad ids and the attention mask with 0 to the engine's input length before
every forward, which reproduces the fresh-buffer state exactly. The CPU
contract test's fake engine keeps persistent fixed-length buffers like the
runtime, and a regression test fails if a short input follows a long one.

* fix(encoders): reject token ids outside the model vocabulary

Caller-supplied token ids (the TextSource token-ids input, reachable from
the CLI's --token-ids) were passed straight to the engine, where they index
the word-embedding gather. An id outside [0, vocab_size) would silently
produce wrong features instead of an error. Record the vocabulary size in
runtime.json at build time, load it when creating the pipeline, and reject
any out-of-range id before inference, for electra, mpnet and xlnet. Bundles
built before this change lack the field and must be rebuilt, as the task
rename already requires.

* ci: re-run Community CI after a GPU provisioning timeout

The previous Dev Community CI run failed in Community GPU / Provision and
test, before any test ran: the reserved GPU instance did not become ready
within the 600 s provisioning deadline. No code change.

* refactor(encoders): drop the untrained relevance Tasks and fail loudly on embedding

Address review feedback (raised on the distilbert migration, #1581, which
shares this pipeline) for electra, mpnet and xlnet.

- Remove text_pair_to_relevance and text_query_documents_to_relevance. These
  engines return hidden states, so the "score" was the first value of the
  first-token vector, not a trained relevance score, and a public semantic
  Task invites users to treat it as a working reranker. No manifest or
  benchmark in these families ever exercised reranking. A relevance Task can
  return when a checkpoint with a classification head is onboarded, and
  should then require a logits/score output.
- text_to_embedding no longer falls back to the raw un-pooled engine output,
  with empty pooling metadata, when the hidden size cannot be inferred or the
  output is too short; that is now a runtime error.
- Tests: the contract test drops the relevance cases, adds an embedding
  bundle rejecting a pooled-features call and the unusable-output case;
  build() and support tests list the two remaining Tasks.

* refactor(distilbert): migrate to Task SDK

Migrate distilbert to the semantic Task SDK introduced by #1226, per the
migration epic #1430 (child issue #1446, claimed in that issue's comments
before this work started). Unlike the prior timm_mobilevit/timm_crossvit
migrations (#1561, #1580), there is no already-merged reference PR for
this shape of family: distilbert's shared `EncoderPipeline` class (also
duplicated near-verbatim by several sibling families: albert, bert,
convbert, deberta, electra, modernbert, mpnet, roberta, xlnet, dpr,
eagle_vlm) currently implements three retired string-task interfaces
(`IEmbedding`/`IEncoding`/`IReranking` in trtmc/task.h) with no semantic
Task equivalent shipped by anyone yet. This PR establishes that mapping.

## Task mapping

- `embedding` -> `text_to_embedding` (`ITextToEmbedding`): unchanged
  mean-pool-then-L2-normalize sentence embedding.
- `encoding` -> `text_to_pooled_features` (`ITextToPooledFeatures`):
  unchanged CLS-token extraction. This is the only capability with an
  existing checkpoint case/manifest/E2E oracle for this family; `embedding`
  and `reranking` are preserved code paths with no prior test coverage here.
- `reranking` -> `text_pair_to_relevance` (`ITextPairToRelevance`) *plus*
  `text_query_documents_to_relevance` (`ITextQueryDocumentsToRelevance`):
  the retired `IReranking` interface required `rerank_batch(query,
  documents)` as part of its own contract, so a reranking bundle now binds
  both the single-pair and the shared-query/multi-document semantic Tasks,
  fully preserving that secondary capability instead of letting it become
  an orphaned C++-only convenience.

(`apps/task_runtime.h`'s `uses_existing_task_runtime` already excludes any
task not on its retired-interface list). No shared/core file is touched;
everything is under `families/distilbert/**`.

## Implementation

- `support.py` / `model.py`: task names renamed to the three semantic IDs
  above; `build()`'s task validation updated to match. No change to
  `_build_engine`/`load_weights`/checkpoint parsing/tokenizer-contract
  logic — the TensorRT graph and tokenizer framing are completely untouched.
- `runtime/pipeline.h` / `pipeline.cpp`: `EncoderPipeline` now implements
  `internal::IModel` + `ITextToEmbedding` + `ITextToPooledFeatures` +
- `tests/sdk_consumer.c` / `tests/sdk_consumer.cpp` (new): written against
  `TRTMC_TASK_TEXT_TO_POOLED_FEATURES`/`trtmc::TextToPooledFeatures`, the
  one capability with real checkpoint coverage -- no `timm_mobilenetv3`-
  style precedent exists for this Task, so these were written directly
  from the public C/C++ SDK headers rather than copied from a sibling.
- `tests/test_e2e.py`: task string and native `encode` output updated
  (`pooling`/`normalization` fields now present and checked); added
  `_assert_sdk_consumers`, run for the single-GPU manifest only (the tp4
  manifest's multi-process `mpirun` launch is out of scope for these
  single-process SDK consumers).
- `tests/test_model.py` (new), `tests/test_support.py` (new): `build()`
  task-guard coverage for all three accepted and all three retired task
  names, and dependency-free identity/default-task resolution.
- Both `tests/manifests/*.json`: `task` field updated to
  `text_to_pooled_features` (unchanged otherwise).

* fix(distilbert): reject inputs beyond the engine's input_ids capacity

Address review feedback on the Task SDK migration: run_encoder() only
rejected empty input, so a token sequence longer than the loaded engine's
optimization profile could reach forward() and be truncated, which for
text_to_embedding could also fall through to the raw-output branch
instead of mean pooling and L2 normalization. Check the sequence length
against the active profile's maximum (dynamic input) or the fixed shape
before building any input tensor, and cover it in the CPU contract test.

* test(distilbert): give the fake engine a realistic input capacity

The contract test's fake engine reported a 16-token input_ids capacity, so
the new capacity check correctly rejected the reranking test's longer
combined query/passage string. Report the 512-token capacity the real
manifests build with. The oversized-input case still derives its length
from the same value.
