@coderabbitai full review Please review commit The repair rejects failed channel-forward verification, yields during settlement, cleans up after polling errors, and preserves classified startup causes in Portable connect. The onboarding regression now reaches the production action, onboard function, and dashboard launcher. Regression controls failed before each behavioral repair; the onboarding regression also fails when the production launch await is removed. Focused tests and normal publication checks are recorded in the PR description. |

Forward startup failures now propagate through awaited caller contracts, early child exit and cleanup paths preserve ownership, and Portable diagnostics retain classified causes without leaking executable paths or raw errors. The complete packet review and focused validation are clear; all live approval gates pass. The non-required Go CodeQL upload failure is infrastructure-only and does not affect this TypeScript change.
## Outcome Portable lifecycle recovery uses one monotonic startup allowance across qualification, start, exec readiness, and authenticated health. Forward recovery shares its allowance across observations, ownership checks, both launches, and settlement. Timeout errors identify the exhausted lifecycle phase, and existing bounded cleanup remains available after expiry. ## Reason Independent stage timers let recovery exceed the caller's total allowance. Wall-clock rollback could also extend polling. A timeout must stop further startup work while permitting reconciliation and cleanup after a partial start. ### Related issues Fixes #11652 Refs #11573 ## Changes - Introduce one operation deadline at each owning lifecycle or forward-recovery boundary. Pass remaining time into commands, probes, and ownership checks, including the production forwarding wrapper. - Preserve the 240,000 ms default from the prior 60 + 90 + 90 second stage sum. Callers can supply a smaller allowance; the cumulative regression uses 120 seconds. - Reject work after expiry, including child creation after an initial probe and late readiness results. Preserve correct entry-qualification, health, and final-authority diagnostics. - Preserve independent bounded reconciliation and cleanup after timeout. Resolve conflicts with merged asynchronous forward startup (#11661) and saved-state recovery (#11668), retaining their behavior and tests. ## Verification Tested commit: `ef2f5576556838683c68085208125a28aa68ef9c`. - Original deadline, clock-rollback, and review regressions fail before their fixes and pass afterward. Coverage includes the production ownership-budget handoff, reduced time for sequential forwards, late readiness, phase diagnostics, and timeout rollback. - Five affected suites: 226 passed. Normal signed-commit and pre-push hooks passed, including full CLI TypeScript checking. All ten published commits are GitHub Verified. - [Full CI](https://github.com/NVIDIA/NemoClaw/actions/runs/34782396224/attempts/2): 40,891 passed, zero failed, 52 pending tests. One inherited CI-classifier process-cleanup assertion passed in isolation and after one failed-job retry; its original failure evidence is retained. - [Rootless Portable E2E](https://github.com/NVIDIA/NemoClaw/actions/runs/34782396269): passed. Exact-source receipts confirm public-start recovery, restored forwards, authenticated health, and a stopped container afterward. - [Managed-image validation](https://github.com/NVIDIA/NemoClaw/actions/runs/34782396210): passed. - [Required repair/resume E2E](https://github.com/NVIDIA/NemoClaw/actions/runs/34783478263): all three selected cases passed. Immutable dispatch and result receipts match the candidate, base, trusted workflow, and selectors. ## Review notes Self-review covered all ten changed paths. All valid in-scope CodeRabbit and Advisor findings are repaired. CodeRabbit's latest exact-commit review reports no actionable comments. All nine complete [Advisor summaries, findings ledgers, and E2E recommendations](https://github.com/NVIDIA/NemoClaw/actions/runs/34783788567) were read and are clear, with no additional E2E recommendations. The PR remains non-draft at the author's request and awaits maintainer review. Cleanup may continue after the primary allowance expires. This default ceiling establishes no GFN startup performance promise. Partial-forward process-identity rollback remains the separately assigned #11649 / #11670 scope. --- Signed-off-by: Prekshi Vyas <34834085+prekshivyas@users.noreply.github.com> <!-- This is an auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> ## Summary by CodeRabbit * **Bug Fixes** * Improved portable recovery when time limits are nearly exhausted or system clocks move backward. * Prevented launches and probes from continuing after recovery time expires. * Improved cleanup and rollback after unsuccessful startup or recovery. * Improved lifecycle recovery for already-running containers and stopped services. * Added safeguards for unsupported or inconsistent lifecycle states. * **Reliability** * Recovery time is now shared consistently across startup, readiness checks, polling, and ownership verification. * Improved listener ownership checks and timeout handling during service startup. <!-- end of auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> --------- Signed-off-by: Prekshi Vyas <34834085+prekshivyas@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: github-actions[bot] <41898282+github-actions[bot]@users.noreply.github.com>
Outcome
A missing or non-executable OpenShell forward binary returns a catchable startup error. A child that exits before binding reports its exit status or signal. Onboarding and recovery await forwarding before continuing dependent work; channel add and start report incomplete operations when forwarding fails.
Reason
Synchronous polling blocked Node from delivering child error and exit events. Failed spawns could terminate the CLI after its caller caught an error, and early child exits appeared as bind timeouts.
Related issues
Fixes #11648. Part of #11573.
Changes
Partial-forward transaction rollback remains separately tracked in #11649.
Verification
Tested commit:
962f28784ada7c5b140b4121ecf5f551654fea12.awaitmakes it fail.3093a12test. No test or gate was disabled. All 12 hosted CLI shards pass on this candidate.Review notes
The full CodeRabbit review reports no actionable findings for this commit. All five review threads are resolved, including the four findings from the previous candidate. The outside-diff diagnostic finding and sequential-startup test gap were also repaired. The generated docstring percentage remains an advisory style warning.
All nine Advisor specialists succeeded on attempt 1. Every findings file, complete summary, and E2E recommendation file was read and verified against this commit: all clear, no additional or unresolved E2E recommendations.
Self-review covers child ownership, error propagation, post-wait identity checks, and absence of premature success in the changed forwarding and onboarding sources and tests. No secrets, API keys, or credentials were added. The PR remains a draft.
Security / Code Scanning passed after one failed-job retry of result-upload failures. The separate, non-required CodeQL quality Go result upload remains incomplete: analysis produced its report, upload failed without a specific server error or code annotation, and GitHub refused the single retry request with “This workflow run cannot be retried.” No gate was changed or waived.
