Research Plan

1. Try upgrading sorl from 12.9 to 12.11
   If the warning is still there, we'll reveevalute.

I read the release logs for sorl upgrading sorl to 12.10.0 includes the fix for this deprecation warning, so 12.11.0 should work

This is an urgent fix as it could break builds in December. We'll try updating Solr from 12.9 to 12.11. If updating the dependency doesn't work, we can fallback to pinning setuptools<81 in our Dockerfile.

Re-opened this issue as I realized other dependencies in muckrock have this same issue, namely:

• django-robots -> This can be fixed with an update

• django-hosts -> This can be fixed with an update

• django-simple-history -> This can be fixed with a update

• Our own code at muckrock/crowdsource/models.py line 26
  this can be fixed with a line change to from importlib.resources import files
  and then line 300 changes to
  FileDiscoverer(
  files(package).joinpath("oembed_providers.json")
  ),

• pyembed -> This cannot be updated. The package is no longer maintained. Opened a new issue Pyembed is no longer maintained #2090 describing that to eventually move past this issue we will need to remove this package.

Given that it touches a lot of packages, we can either
a) opt to pin to setuptools<81 (kick the can down the road)
b) Remove pyembed from our dependencies and update the other packages.

I have a working branch that includes the other package updates that we can work on if we opt to do b. But even if we choose a, we should get to this at some point.
