Feature: Rework quick selection buttons in CategorySelector #83

Open

Description

@Melv1C

Context

The CategorySelector component has quick selection buttons (All, TC M, TC F, MAS M, MAS F, JSM M, JSM F) that could be improved for better usability and to match common competition category groupings.

Current Quick Selections

  • All
  • TC M / TC F (Toutes Catégories)
  • MAS M / MAS F (Masters only)
  • JSM M / JSM F (Junior, Senior, Master)

Proposed Improvements

Consider reorganizing to be more intuitive:

Option 1: Gender-first approach

Men | Women | All
---
TC (all) | Youth | JSM | Masters

Option 2: Common competition formats

  • All - Select all categories
  • TC - Toutes Catégories (all, both genders)
  • TC M / TC W - All men / All women
  • Youth - BEN, PUP, MIN, CAD, SCO (both genders)
  • Youth M / Youth W - Youth categories by gender
  • JSM - Junior, Senior, Master (both genders)
  • JSM M / JSM W - JSM by gender
  • Masters - All master categories (both genders)
  • Masters M / Masters W - Masters by gender

Acceptance Criteria

  • Review and update QUICK_SELECTIONS array in category-selector.tsx
  • Add translations for new labels (currently hardcoded)
  • Consider adding "Youth" quick selection (BEN, PUP, MIN, CAD, SCO)
  • Make labels consistent (use "W" instead of "F" for women, or use full words)
  • Add tooltips/descriptions explaining each quick selection
  • Test that toggle behavior works correctly (select all → deselect all)

Discussion

  • Should we use abbreviations (M/W) or full words (Men/Women)?
  • What are the most common category groupings used in competitions?
  • Should quick selections be configurable per organization?
