Planning-session deliverable — nothing implemented

docs/planning/parallel-sessions-plan.md (S24, 2026-09-16). Trigger: "Do the recent changes allow for fanning out with multiple agents now? Prior to that, fanning out was very messy." The Orient answer was safe but not clean — the ratchet binds every actor's output; nothing yet coordinates two actors writing at once. This plan is the coordination half.

The finding — one closer per tree. Every coordination artifact the methodology has is serial (one ACTIVE TASK, one S<N>, two prepend-only ledgers at one anchor, a hook that forces every commit onto one of them, a reconcile step that walks one line). The operator's own records show both failure shapes precisely: six verify-agents mutating one tree fabricated a defect (adopter S163); two sequences prepending at one anchor conflicted in both ledgers (this repo, S21). They also show what worked: agents return content, one integrator writes and commits (adopter S13). The plan generalizes that into two shapes — A: one session, many hands (workers are layers, the lead closes) and B: many sessions, many closers (one per branch, records merge without conflict).

What it proposes (§4, D1–D15; §6, six phases, one per session):

  • .gitattributes merge=union for the four append-only files, as a SEED, plus a canonical bin/check-ledger (the CHANGELOG.md twin of check-handoff) and a two-branch merge test, RED-first
  • a ## Parallel Actors section in the flight manual: the four slice gates + three more (one closer; disjoint write scopes; serial integration, one unit per checkpoint) — the runner gets a pointer, paid by reduction (35 tokens of headroom)
  • "one writer per tree" as a SAFEGUARDS hard rule; recommended FM Resolve #16: generalize CONTEXT_TEMPLATE 'auto-memory' to agent-level memory #29 "Shared-tree mutation"
  • sequence-tagged session ids (S24-<seq>; bare S<N> stays the trunk's); a merge is one action with one receipt — closes the "11 reconciled receipts" ruling by rule
  • --source=github reads the manifest at the same ref as the content, so Test 9 is green on every branch correctly; worktree-aware --calibrate
  • an alternatives table (changelog fragments considered and deferred, with the cost stated) and six honest ceilings (§7)

Sequencing (D12): v3.8 first; this plan as v3.9. Phase 1 is independent and could land earlier.

Twelve decisions for the operator are in §8 — each with a recommendation; answering them (here, as a comment) is this plan's Phase 0.

Evidence discipline: every methodology citation is file:line at main @ 6b29d3d, re-run before commit (§9). Adopter evidence is cited by session number; the project is deliberately unnamed.

Planning-session deliverable (S24). Nothing implemented. Six phases, fifteen decisions,
twelve open operator decisions in §8; every methodology citation at main @ 6b29d3d and
re-run before commit (§9).

…ream/main

Chosen by the operator after Phase 0 (picker). HANDOFFS.md holds three
receipts, above the policy's two; the trim runs with --cut 2 because this
claim's stub is a fourth record, archiving the same S173 and S172 that S174's
Phase-0 --cut 1 named. Then upstream/main 6b29d3d merges into fork main: 56
commits behind, 13 conflicting files. Upstream PR KJ5HST#83 (planning only) is
observed, not acted on; it conflicts in the same 13 files. The two Phase 0
instrument snapshots ride with this claim.

Chosen by the operator after Phase 0 (picker). Pre-flight re-derived:
upstream/main is still 6b29d3d, PR KJ5HST#83 still open at 219fb9d, and
merge-tree against 0fd003a lists the plan's same four conflicting files.
D1 (A): the distributed learnings file becomes upstream's; fork rows
KJ5HST#15-KJ5HST#66 move verbatim to docs/FORK_LEARNINGS.md. The two Phase 0

Chosen by the operator after Phase 0 (picker). Pre-flight re-derived:
upstream/main is still 6b29d3d, PR KJ5HST#83 still open at 219fb9d, and

…tory counts foreign numbers as yours

Three of the few hits that mattered in this session's mandatory citation
inventory were not what the count said: two were another project's numbering
narrated as a defect, one was a fixture a test plants. The pattern matched
correctly every time; it cannot resolve a hit to a referent.

The file is now 85,228 B, 3,308 B over its 81,920 B growth warning, up from
1,848 B at this session's claim. A row was appended and none retired -- the
third consecutive session. That is not reflex: this session's deliverable is
the retirement rule, whose P2 (operator ratification) gates the pass that
would retire anything. Retiring one here would apply an unratified rule.

The catch-up pass of the retirement plan, under D1-D4 as ratified at this
session's Phase 0. Every row of docs/FORK_LEARNINGS.md (15-83) was read in full
and tested against all three limbs of D1. Result: 0 retirements. The file is
untouched at 85,228 B, 3,308 B over its growth warning.

This corrects the plan's estimate in the direction it already pointed. Its "at
most 2 rows, ~2,900 B" was the optimistic bound of a ten-row sample that marked
KJ5HST#15 and KJ5HST#19 PARTLY covered; D1 retires a row "when, and only when, one of these
holds", and partly is not holds. Six rows are partly covered in total.

Two limbs are unsatisfiable across this corpus, both measured rather than
argued. (b) 13 rows cite an earlier row and every citation is a differentiation
-- sibling of, distinct from, the converse of -- never a restatement; and eight
rows are cited BY another live row or live config, so retiring one strands an
in-table reference. (c) 38 rows name a file path, 56 mentions, every one
resolving to a tracked file.

The sweep instrument was audited and had failed: six false hits in four rows
(FM KJ5HST#27, upstream's quoted "learning KJ5HST#22 / #26a", rad-con's KJ5HST#28/KJ5HST#29/KJ5HST#30/KJ5HST#34)
while also dropping bare KJ5HST#28-style references. Fork Learning KJ5HST#83 reproduced by
the document written to adjudicate it, recorded rather than quietly fixed.

Recommends keeping D3 and taking option C, for the operator to decide. Changes
no row, no ceiling, and does not write D3 into the close-out path (P4).

…what that key is

Phase 1B claim. CHANGELOG entry (in progress) + HANDOFFS.md status: pending
receipt, plus the two Phase 0 history rows this session's own runs appended
(dashboard_history.jsonl, .context-budget-history.jsonl).

Phase 0: CHANGELOG frontier = HEAD d402f26, gap empty; HANDOFFS frontier the
same commit, gap empty. No pending stub, 2 receipts before this one. Gate
citation re-run in a --no-local clone with HEAD asserted by sha:
11/11 - results 10575dac7361 - manifest 01a4ae7aa511, S203's citation exactly.
Dashboard 76/100, medium, 0 high+. Upstream 0 open issues; KJ5HST#85, KJ5HST#84, KJ5HST#83 open
with 0 reviews each. origin/main 8 commits behind local main.

Operator picker: deliverable BL-78 P1; P2 settled as option beta (reported
series), not executed here; CHANGELOG trim, HANDOFFS trim and the fork push
approved; nothing upstream-facing approved pending review of draft comments.

…nt diffs against itself

An instrument that records every run changes its own output, so a before/after
diff of it carries the instrument's delta as well as yours. P1's central A/B
came back non-empty on a growth-run counter (166 vs 167), which read once says
"the edit changed the output" -- the opposite of the claim P1 existed to make.
The control is one more run of the unchanged side.

1,497 B after two trims; drafts at 1,636 B and 1,509 B were both refused by the
per-row budget and shortened, not waived. 74 rows, contiguous 15..88.

D3 discharged by explicit refusal: no row qualifies for retirement. Considered
KJ5HST#82 (mechanized by pre-commit-selftest and Test 43, but retained on S200's
reasoning that a gate pins the instance, not the next case -- and BL-77 is its
unmechanized residual), KJ5HST#85 (re-examined because P1 rewrote the note it is
about; P1 wrote prose, not a gate, and the indicted clause still stands), KJ5HST#86,
KJ5HST#87, KJ5HST#83 and KJ5HST#84. Age and file size are not grounds and were not used.

…ecisions, not a review

KJ5HST#83 is the maintainer's own pull request (author KJ5HST, opened 2026-09-16),
with 0 reviews and 0 comments, and its section 8 -- "Open decisions for the
operator (answer before Phase 1)" -- puts twelve items to the operator. Eleven
carry the author's own recommendation; the twelfth is a scope boundary to
confirm. The plan names answering them as its own Phase 0.

The correction: recent handoffs carried KJ5HST#83 as "unreviewed and unchased",
framing the blocker as ours to clear by reviewing. No amount of reviewing
substitutes for an answer. Checked with gh pr view and by reading section 8
from refs/pull/83/head, not relayed.

The operator asked for the write-up itself in this session's picker; it is a
second deliverable, so it is opened as an item rather than executed. Drafting
the answers is fork-side and internal; posting them to KJ5HST#83 is outward and its
own go-ahead. Nothing upstream was touched.

Uncosted and unshaped, on S203's BL-80 and S204's BL-81 precedent (FM KJ5HST#17).

Verified: BACKLOG-DETAIL.md.verify.sh C1-C5 OK, bin/check-links 111/23.

Deliverable BL-78 P2 done at fac748f: .context-budget.json files[5]'s note
states max_bytes 15,386 B is a reported series, not a no-growth pin; one key

…ion premise

docs/planning/pr83-union-repro.py rebuilds the plan's Shape B case from
upstream's own history (S23 and S24 both claiming from 64f23bf) and merges
each ledger with and without merge=union in scratch repositories.

git 2.50.1: CHANGELOG.md entries survive whole except one blank separator
line; HANDOFFS.md receipts fuse into one block (check-handoff --all exit 1),
even when they share no line but their fences; a synthetic retention-trim
case brings an archived receipt back. The plan's D4 says union keeps both
whole. Fork-only; nothing outward.

…tor's positions

docs/planning/pr83-decisions-review.md. Internal; nothing posted to KJ5HST#83; a
proposed comment is in its section 6 for a separate go-ahead.

Settled first: the twelve are the maintainer's own decisions (his S24
receipt addresses them to his operator; the field evidence is in his agent
memory), so the fork offers review positions, not rulings -- BL-82's "not on
a review" was the wrong half. Agree with eight as recommended; reword the
scope guard (the plan does edit Principle 9 and flight-manual Phase 1 step
4); clarify D5 for a fork's own trunk; D11 not now. One measured change: D4's
merge=union fuses HANDOFFS.md receipts (c3a096b), so keep union for
CHANGELOG.md and the JSONL histories only.

BL-82's index row rewritten; its detail block gains the S206 update.

Collaborator

Thanks for writing this up. I read the twelve items in §8 as your decisions to make, so this is a
collaborator's review, not a set of answers. In short: one change to how the ledgers merge, short notes
on seven items, and agreement with the rest.

1. The one change: leave HANDOFFS.md out of merge=union

The plan gives git's built-in union merge driver to four append-only files (§4, "The append-only
files merge by union"
). I'd keep it for CHANGELOG.md and the two .jsonl histories, and leave
HANDOFFS.md without it. Its conflicts are then small and marked, and the plan's own fallback covers
them: resolve by hand, then run check-handoff --all.

What goes wrong. Say two branches each add a receipt to the top of HANDOFFS.md. A union merge does
not keep two receipts. It produces one block that starts with two session: lines, then the fields the
two receipts had in common, then both receipts' other fields one after the other. The merge reports
success. bin/check-handoff --all fails on the result, but only if someone runs it, and GitHub's merge
button runs no checker.

Why. When both sides insert text at the same place, git first sets aside the lines the two insertions
have in common, and only then does union stack the lines that differ. Every receipt opens with the same
```handoff line and closes with the same ``` line, so both receipts land inside one pair of
fences. CHANGELOG.md entries each start with their own ### heading, so they stay whole; the only loss
is the blank line between them.
How I checked. I replayed your two most recent sessions as if both had started from 64f23bf: one
side adds the receipt and ledger entry from 64f23bf..6b29d3d, the other those from 6b29d3d..219fb9d.
I merged each file with and without the attribute, on git 2.50.1, using only this repository's history
and the Python standard library:
https://github.com/rmsharp/methodology/blob/c3a096bdc8b4eeb4be4539e4ac458c652a26bc03/docs/planning/pr83-union-repro.py
What is merged Without union With union
CHANGELOG.md: the two real ledger entries marked conflict both entries kept, ours above theirs; one blank line lost
HANDOFFS.md: the two real receipts marked conflict one block with two session: lines; merge reports success
HANDOFFS.md: two made-up receipts that share nothing but their fence lines not run still one block
HANDOFFS.md (made-up receipts): one branch archives old receipts, as methodology_trim.py does, and adds its own; the other adds one marked conflict an archived receipt is back in the live file, and the two new ones are fused
What this changes in the plan.
  • Phase 1's merge test expects the merge to succeed with check-handoff --all green. It will fail,
    even with minimal receipts, because the fence lines alone are enough (third row).
  • The rejected alternative. The alternatives table turns down per-session receipt files because
    "union covers both files at once". That no longer holds, so it is the option to revisit if receipt
    conflicts turn out to be frequent.
  • "Every legitimate concurrent edit is an insertion" stops being true once the distributed
    methodology_trim.py archives old records (last row). I ran that case on HANDOFFS.md only; a
    CHANGELOG.md trim against a new entry is untested.
  • The proposed bin/check-ledger should accept a ### heading directly under the previous entry,
    since union drops the blank line between them. Not tested: whether methodology_trim.py accepts
    that, and the two .jsonl files, where one record per line should make union safe.
2. Smaller notes, by §8 item
  • Item 2, "one writer per tree" as a SAFEGUARDS.md hard rule. Agree. Sizing note: if my open
    PR Put the CHANGELOG.md rules in one synced home: the seed becomes a pointer, and the rules stop contradicting each other #84 lands first, SAFEGUARDS.md has 17 tokens of headroom rather than 71, so the new row would be
    paid for almost entirely by cutting other text, as the plan already allows.
  • Item 4, session identity. Agree with S<N>-<seq>. But "bare S<N> is reserved for the trunk
    sequence (main)"
    reads as if there were one trunk. A fork's main is a trunk too: mine has used
    bare S<N> for over 200 sessions, and starter-kit/HANDOFFS.md already says a fork and its upstream
    keep separate numbering. Suggested wording: each repository's main uses bare S<N>; S<N>-<seq>
    is for other branches in the same repository.
  • Item 5, a merge is one action with one receipt. Agree, and dropping the 11 reconciled receipts is
    right: they are my commits from PR Merge the read-set budgets series (#76–#79): the Phase 0 mandatory read fits in one read again #80, each already recorded in my fork's ledger. One addition: after
    a merge, check that each merged PR has a ledger entry. Phase 0 only looks at commits made since the
    ledger last changed, so a merged commit with no entry drops out of view once any later commit edits the
    ledger. That happened to 56997af from PR Ship the ledger trimmer, with tests that run outside this fork (read-set budgets, 2 of 4) #77.
  • Item 7, reading the manifest at the same ref as the content. Agree. One limit to record: Test 9 in
    bin/tests.sh makes about 29 GitHub API calls per run. When I ran two suites at once, both failed
    Test 9 on GitHub's secondary rate limit, while gh api rate_limit showed 5000 of 5000 remaining.
    Phase 5 runs sessions concurrently, so it should run suites one at a time or expect this.
  • Item 10, a new failure mode. Agree on adding failure mode Resolve #16: generalize CONTEXT_TEMPLATE 'auto-memory' to agent-level memory #29, "Shared-tree mutation". I've seen
    the tendency twice more: a review agent that wrote into the distributed template
    starter-kit/CHANGELOG.md in the shared tree, and the two concurrent suites above, which shared no
    tree, only GitHub's rate limit. So the wording could say shared state, for example: concurrent
    actors that edit, build, test or call a rate-limited service against shared state read each other's
    side effects as defects.
    The name is yours.
  • Item 11, the dashboard advisory. The plan makes no recommendation. Mine is to wait until after
    Phase 5: a permanent low-priority advisory on every project with one session sequence would be a report
    nothing acts on.
  • Item 12, the scope guard. Agree with the boundary, but it says the plan does not touch the 9
    principles or the 6 phases, and the plan adds a paragraph to Principle 9 and a clause to step 4 of the
    flight manual's Phase 1. More accurate: adds none, removes none, renumbers none; amends Principle 9 by
    one paragraph and Phase 1 step 4 by one clause.
On items 1, 3, 6 and 9 I agree as recommended; for item 3, the merge above confirms union puts ours
above theirs. Item 8, releasing v3.8 first, is your call.
The proposed comment for upstream PR KJ5HST#83, rewritten against the three
defects the operator named: too dense, undefined terms, poor structure.
It leads with the one suggested change (leave HANDOFFS.md out of
merge=union); what goes wrong, why, and how it was checked are separate
short paragraphs, with the repro's four cases as a table; each smaller
note names its section 8 item and subject rather than a bare plan code.
Wording checked against evidence: the repro re-run (identical output), the
fused block read, no CI workflows upstream at 6b29d3d or 219fb9d. The
extracted comment renders under pandoc -f gfm (table of 5 rows, both
…w; nothing posted
Receipt complete (status: complete, self 8, predecessor 8) and the close-out
ledger entry with Phase 3A/3B. Deliverable 1259287: section 6 of
docs/planning/pr83-decisions-review.md recomposed against the three named
defects (too dense, undefined terms, poor structure); no bare plan codes
remain in the comment text (the old one had ten). Not posted: posting to
PR KJ5HST#83 is outward and needs its own go-ahead on the exact text.
Build-equivalent, --no-local clone of 1259287 with HEAD asserted by sha:
quality_ratchet 11/11 - results 10575dac7361 - manifest 01a4ae7aa511;
bin/tests.sh 343/0/6 after the HANDOFFS trim (003a243 + fold 7f77925).
check-handoff and check-handoff --all exit 0.
Phase 3C: no fork-learnings row; the lesson (the addressee's own plan codes
count under the recognized-terms rule) is an operator preference, kept in
agent memory. Fork push not taken: no go-ahead this session.
… go-ahead to post)
After the close-out the operator wrote "Those look fine" about the section 6
text shown in the report. Recorded as approval of the comment in
docs/planning/pr83-decisions-review.md, which is unchanged. Posting to PR KJ5HST#83
stays its own outward go-ahead; whether the approval also covers the two
pre-posting considerations (the untested CHANGELOG.md trim case under union,
item 10's memory-only example) is left for the posting picker. S207's receipt
next step (1), BL-82's index row and its detail block updated.
…o false "agent memory" claims corrected
Section 6: one sentence added after the third bullet of "What this changes in
the plan" -- the trim-against-new-entry case was run on HANDOFFS.md only, so a
CHANGELOG.md trim against a new entry is stated as untested (operator, S208
picker). The comment extracted from this commit differs from the text approved
after S207 by that sentence alone. Section 7 lists the same untested case.
Section 4.1 said S44's review-agent incident was recorded only in agent memory;
S44's own receipt records it (docs/archive/HANDOFFS-through-2026-08-09.md:411,
gotcha 1). Section 4.7 said the Test 9 rate-limit details were in agent memory;
S178's receipt records them (docs/archive/HANDOFFS-through-2026-09-17.md:62,
gotcha 3). Both now cite the receipts. Fork-only document; nothing posted yet.
…BL-82 closed
Posted as one comment on upstream PR KJ5HST#83,
KJ5HST#83 (comment), on the
operator's go-ahead on the exact text. Pre-checks immediately before: head
219fb9d, 0 comments, 0 reviews; the repro link returned 200; the body, taken
from section 6 at f7fc621, cmp-equal to the text shown. Read back
byte-identical (bar jq's trailing newline); GitHub's rendered HTML has one
table of 5 rows, both triple-backtick code spans, 11 list items.
BL-82 closed: row moved to Completed items, open list updated, closing update
in its detail block; the review's status line, section 6 heading and section 7
say what was posted. BACKLOG-DETAIL.md.verify.sh C1-C5 OK.
HANDOFFS.md: S208's receipt completed (status: complete, self 8, predecessor
Phase 3A evaluation of S207's handoff (8/10; its gotcha (3) was false -- S44's
receipt records the incident) and the Phase 3B self-assessment (8/10).
Owed next, not done: section 4.2 of the review still carries a third false
…gent memory" claim corrected
Section 4.2 said S115's git status --porcelain / --ignored finding was "again
recorded only in agent memory". S115's own receipt records it, in its gotchas,
at docs/archive/HANDOFFS-through-2026-08-29.md:285. The sentence now cites
that receipt, as S208 did for 4.1 and 4.7. Approved at S209's Phase 0 picker.
Two Phase 0 findings reported: the ratchet's first --run here measured 342/1
because other commands ran against the repo at the same time, and it keeps no
suite output, so a red run cannot be diagnosed without re-running it; and
S219's next-step (2) named T8_keeping_current.md where the plan's P3 names
T1_setup.md -- section 2.2 and D6 (a) resolve it, T8 is unchanged.
.context-budget-history.jsonl's row is BL-75 live: --status does not exist on
and appends a tracked history.
Three Phase 0 findings reported. The tracked .quality-gates-results.json is
stale (head 431279b, 2026-09-19), so the receipt's citation was confirmed from
the clone run rather than from that file. The dashboard's "1 loosened" was
traced to its one cause and is not new: tests-sh-passed 327 -> 294 at 368b29c
(2026-09-16), the operator-approved BL-57 D10 change, and the only loosening in
the manifest's whole history. .git/REBASE_HEAD absent and core.hooksPath is
.githooks, so the hooks are armed in this clone.
.context-budget-history.jsonl's row is BL-75 live again: --status does not exist
and appends a tracked history row.
unchanged heads (219fb9d, 77afc12, e2501c5, c1167ae), 0 reviews, the only
comments ours -- so no maintainer reply outranks the plan's next phase.
upstream/main unmoved at 6b29d3d and an ancestor of fix/sync-github-history, so
P5 needs no rebase. main was 5 ahead of origin/main; .git/REBASE_HEAD absent and
core.hooksPath is .githooks, so the hooks are armed.
Operator picker, three questions: deliverable = P5 of sync-github-route-plan.md;
D7 sequencing = open now with the body unchanged, a stated departure from
"after KJ5HST#84 merges" on the three grounds recorded in the ledger entry; outward
go-aheads = the branch push, the PR open, and a separate push of fork main.
Side action owed by the retention policy, not chosen at the picker: this claim
makes three receipts, so the HANDOFFS.md trim and its fold follow.
receipt, plus the dashboard's history row from Phase 0.
Deliverable chosen at the Phase 0 task picker over three alternatives: BL-85
upstream prep, BL-84 upstream prep, and a decision pass on BL-83/81/79/77/74.
P6 of the BL-66 plan is the plan's next phase but is blocked on KJ5HST#87's merge, so
it was stated as blocked rather than offered.
Measured before claiming, at HEAD 73157d0: docs/planning/BACKLOG.md is
58,727 B / 229 lines against the dashboard's derived 56,750 B one-read budget
(25,000-token read cap x 2.27 B/token) -- 1,977 B over, and the single risk
factor behind 76/100 HIGH. Completed items is lines 173-214, 25,576 B, 43.5% of
the file; removing it leaves 33,151 B. The two ceilings differ and only one is
red: .context-budget.json classes the file read-mandated at max_bytes 65536,
which it is under, so context_budget.py --precommit is green.
Backlog searched before claiming (all 62 items parsed and matched): no item owns
this breach. BL-37 is adjacent and neither owns nor blocks it -- its half two,
the distributed seed's missing BACKLOG.md ceiling entry, is still open; its half
one is done. BL-37's "its excess cannot be archived away ... the open items
alone are 68,195 B" is stale, superseded by the S99 split that moved item bodies
to BACKLOG-DETAIL.md; open items measure 25,971 B today. Not edited (FM KJ5HST#17).
Phase 0: CHANGELOG frontier = HEAD 73157d0, gap empty; HANDOFFS frontier
7026512, the one later commit 73157d0 the push record carrying its own entry --
the shape S219-S222 each recorded. 2 receipts before this one, none pending;
nothing backfilled. Gate citation re-run in a --no-local clone at 73157d0:
11/11 pass - results 10575dac7361 - manifest 01a4ae7aa511, S222's citation
exactly, four commits later; suite 343 passed, 0 failed. The tracked
.quality-gates-results.json is still stale (431279b, 2026-09-19), which is why
the citation came from the clone. Upstream 0 open issues; KJ5HST#83-KJ5HST#87 all open at
unchanged heads (219fb9d, 77afc12, e2501c5, c1167ae, 67feb9f), 0 reviews and no
maintainer comment on any. main in sync with origin/main; .git/REBASE_HEAD
absent and core.hooksPath is .githooks, so the hooks are armed.
Open at claim time, to be decided and stated rather than assumed: what proves
the extraction lossless. The precedent is a sibling .verify.sh, but BL-60
measures those at ~16 KB each, 97.9% identical, 31 holding 5.4% of the tracked
repo, and BL-36 found four of six do not hold.
Side action owed by the retention policy, not a picker item: this claim makes
three receipts, so the HANDOFFS.md trim and its fold follow the Phase 0 report.
…earning #96
docs/planning/BACKLOG.md 58,727 -> 35,296 B, 21,454 B under the 56,750 B
one-read budget it was 1,977 B over. Dashboard risk HIGH -> MEDIUM, High+ count
1 -> 0, health 76/100 unchanged. No outward action was taken and none was asked
for: nothing pushed, no branch touched, KJ5HST#83-KJ5HST#87 exactly as Phase 0 found them.
Phase 3A -- S222's handoff scored 9/10. Its "read the dry run's shard name rather
than predicting it" was the trap S221 fell into, and following it produced both
the right answer and a diagnostic nobody had seen (CUT_STRADDLES_DAY). Its byte
figure for the backlog became this session's deliverable and its acceptance
criterion, and both re-measured exactly. Missing: nothing about the fixture
coupling that was this session's largest hazard. Wrong: "CHANGELOG.md IS ~155 KB"
against 161,678 B measured, ~7 KB low, hedged and harmless.
Phase 3B -- self-assessed 9/10. The proof shape was decided from measurement, not
from the claim's recorded worry, whose premise turned out false and is stated
rather than dropped. Every referrer was enumerated before editing, which found the
C4 coupling. All five checks proved killable, including redoing an invalid
mutation of my own. The reduction was made durable by moving the editing rule.
Self-caught slips: a [[wiki]] link in the receipt stub, a grep -c against indented
rows, a git checkout -- that invalidated one mutation run. Operator corrections to
the work: 0. One instruction added (task picker at Phase 0), applied same session.
Phase 3C -- fork Learning #96 appended (1,497 B; 82 rows, contiguous 15..96). D3's
retirement is owed and is REFUSED with the rows named and the criterion tested
against each -- and this is the THIRD CONSECUTIVE REFUSAL (S221, S222, S223),
flagged here rather than left to be noticed. KJ5HST#24: criterion (a) tested, not
assumed -- Test 29 was rewired to read live + archives at S87, but that mechanizes
one instance, not the rule; this session enumerated consumers by hand and found
one no test covers, which is #96. KJ5HST#26: its example is now falsified for this very
file, but a stale example is never a ground and its method is ungated. KJ5HST#31, KJ5HST#41,
KJ5HST#15, KJ5HST#78, KJ5HST#58, KJ5HST#85 each considered with its reason. No later row states any at
least as generally; every row's artifact exists.
Phase 3E -- gate citation from a --no-local clone of 27b1c33: quality_ratchet
11/11 pass - 0 fail - 0 unmeasured - results 10575dac7361 - manifest
01a4ae7aa511, exit 0, identical to Phase 0's at 73157d0. bin/tests.sh 343 passed /
0 failed / 6 skipped three times. check-handoff and --all OK; the receipt was
refused four times on the 12,288 B per-record budget and row #96 three times on
the 1,500 B row budget -- both cut shorter rather than raised.
Two findings recorded, not fixed (FM KJ5HST#17): the replaced heading named 19 of the 33
rows present; .context-budget.json:73's structure.why claims its pattern matches
"the 19 open-item rows and NOT the Completed items table" where today it matched
53 and 10.
Five commits on main, all fork-only documentation: the S223 claim, the HANDOFFS.md
retention trim and its fold, the BACKLOG.md Completed-items extraction, and the
close-out. A fast-forward from the sha origin held, checked with merge-base
--is-ancestor before the push and read back with ls-remote after.
Nothing on KJ5HST/methodology moved: no branch pushed, no PR opened or edited, no
comment posted. KJ5HST#83-KJ5HST#87 remain open at the heads Phase 0 recorded, 0 reviews.
Pushed with the push it records, under the standing grant for push records.
Phase 1B claim. CHANGELOG entry (in progress) + HANDOFFS.md status: pending
receipt, plus the dashboard's history row from Phase 0.
Deliverable chosen at the Phase 0 task picker over three alternatives: BL-83
(fork Learning KJ5HST#85's false example), BL-84 (the seed's fixed warn line versus
its mandatory purpose fence) and BL-81 (.context-budget.json's three-places
stale sizes). P6 of the BL-66 plan is that plan's next phase but is still
blocked on KJ5HST#87's merge, so it was stated as blocked rather than offered.
Scope, stated explicitly: one branch based on upstream/main carrying the
re-derived §Without bin/sync rules, plus a drafted pull-request body under
docs/planning/. Opening the pull request is NOT in scope and is its own
go-ahead -- BL-85's own record says "Outward-facing in every shape but (d):
its own go-ahead. Decision first." Five pull requests already sit unreviewed
with 0 reviews.
Measured before claiming, at HEAD c5e311d:
  * grep -c 'never overwrite' starter-kit/BOOTSTRAP.md -- 2 on fork main and
    origin/main; 0 on upstream/main (6b29d3d) and on all five open PR heads
    (219fb9d, 77afc12, e2501c5, c1167ae, 67feb9f). BL-85's S218 measurement
    re-confirmed, now including KJ5HST#87's head, which did not exist when it was
    taken.
  * BL-85 warns rule 1's table must be re-derived because the manifests
    differ. They differ, but not there: bin/_manifest.py's DISTRIBUTION list
    is IDENTICAL across the two trees -- same 11 tracked starter-kit entries,
    same 6 seeds, same docs/methodology/ set, same order. Every difference is
    in comments or in STALE_FORMAT_MARKERS. Rule 1's table ports unchanged.
  * Rule 2 is the half that cannot port verbatim: it cites "ledger-format: 2"
    and the seed's pointer to FRAMEWORK_APPARATUS.md §The Action Ledger. On
    upstream/main the markers are "Authoritative Action Ledger"/"Handoff
    Receipts" and FRAMEWORK_APPARATUS.md has 0 occurrences of "Action Ledger".
    Both arrive with KJ5HST#84 (77afc12 adds ## The Action Ledger at :338).
  * Rule 3 ports unchanged: upstream/main's bin/status emits exactly the five
    strings the rule names (:95, :98, :102, :103, :106).
  * KJ5HST#84 does not touch §Without bin/sync -- its BOOTSTRAP.md hunks are the
    tree diagram, :73, :84 and two file tables. Conflict to be measured with
    git merge-tree, not predicted.
Phase 0: CHANGELOG frontier = HANDOFFS frontier = HEAD c5e311d, both gaps
empty. 2 receipts before this one, none pending; nothing backfilled. Gate
re-run in a --no-local clone at c5e311d: 11/11 pass - results 10575dac7361 -
manifest 01a4ae7aa511, S223's citation exactly, one commit later; suite 343
passed, 0 failed. context_budget.py --precommit exit 0. Dashboard 76/100, risk
MEDIUM, High+ 0 -- S223's extraction held. Upstream 0 open issues; KJ5HST#83-KJ5HST#87 all
open at unchanged heads, all MERGEABLE/CLEAN, 0 reviews, only our own two
comments. main level with origin/main; .git/REBASE_HEAD absent and
core.hooksPath is .githooks, so the hooks are armed.
Side action owed by the retention policy, not a picker item: this claim makes
three receipts, so the HANDOFFS.md trim and its fold follow the Phase 0 report.
… and body, nothing sent
Records the S224 deliverable on fork main. The branch itself is
fix/bootstrap-never-overwrite-rules, tip a88fce7, based on upstream/main
6b29d3d; this commit is its fork-side record, not its content.
Four files: the drafted pull-request body, BL-85's detail status paragraph,
BL-85's index row, and this ledger entry. Nothing outward was done -- no push,
no pull request, no comment. BL-85's four shapes remain open and remain the
operator's.
Two of BL-85's own three "before it goes up" warnings came back different from
what it predicted:
  * Rule 1's table needs NO re-derivation. bin/_manifest.py's DISTRIBUTION list
    is identical across the two trees; the manifests differ only in comments and
    STALE_FORMAT_MARKERS.
  * The half that could not port is rule 2, which BL-85 does not flag: it cites
    ledger-format: 2 and FRAMEWORK_APPARATUS.md §The Action Ledger, and
    upstream/main has neither. Rewritten to point at the existing "Updating an
    existing project..." paragraph instead of restating it, which is what makes
    it survive KJ5HST#84 untouched.
  * Rule 3 ports verbatim; its five verdicts were read from upstream's
    bin/status (:95, :98, :102, :103, :106).
Conflicts measured with git merge-tree and then re-run as real merges: KJ5HST#84
77afc12 is CLEAN including BOOTSTRAP.md, merged tree 163/0, gates 10/10. KJ5HST#83,
KJ5HST#85, KJ5HST#86, KJ5HST#87 collide in CHANGELOG.md only; KJ5HST#87's merged tree runs 188/0 with
its own raised floor met exactly, gates 10/10, results 2162213f5332 -- the
hashes KJ5HST#87 cites. This branch adds no tests and moves no floor.
Recorded and not fixed (FM KJ5HST#17): §Setup with bin/sync's prose at :74 omits
three installed executables and two seeds, stale against the manifest. Named
in the body's "Deliberately not in this pull request".
All three docs/planning/ proofs re-run green; check-links OK at 111.
…opened
Two outward, explicitly authorized actions, taken after the session had
already closed out; each read back before the next.
Re-verified first: upstream/main re-fetched and unmoved at 6b29d3d, still the
branch's base by git merge-base --is-ancestor, all five previously open heads
unchanged. Branch re-run in a --no-local clone at the exact commit being sent:
bin/tests.sh 139 passed / 0 failed; quality_ratchet 10/10 pass, 0 fail,
results 6542e640a956, manifest 97a7aab85b9a.
Action 1: fix/bootstrap-never-overwrite-rules pushed to fork origin as a new
ref; git ls-remote reads back a88fce7.
Action 2: KJ5HST#88 opened against main from
rmsharp:fix/bootstrap-never-overwrite-rules. gh pr view reads back state
OPEN, head a88fce7, base main, cross-repository, MERGEABLE/CLEAN.
The body test that can fail: the channel appends an attribution line the
approved file does not carry (fork Learning #95), so "sent unchanged" and
"byte-identical read-back" are different tests. KJ5HST#86 and KJ5HST#87 were read first
to confirm the convention rather than recall it, the line was appended on
purpose, and the read-back minus exactly that line compares equal to the
approved text -- 3,849 B each side, 3,918 B as published.
The S224 receipt said "nothing outward happened", which stopped being true;
it, the body file's status line, BL-85's detail and its index row are all
corrected here. BL-85 is discharged by KJ5HST#88's existence; the merge is the
maintainer's. Six PRs are now open (KJ5HST#83-KJ5HST#88) with 0 reviews between them.
Five files, exactly the blast-radius cap. check-links, check-handoff and all
three docs/planning/ proofs green.
Three -d (ancestors of upstream/main), seven -D (settled non-ancestors, each
with its survival established in the inventory's section 2). Local 18 -> 8,
git branch -a 40 -> 30.
Every remaining branch is an open PR head, BL-70's keep, main, or pr83 -- a
local copy of upstream's KJ5HST#83 head, deliberately untouched because the S189
decision named a list and pr83 is not on it.
The origin half is outward-facing and is not done here.
…8A records the twelve decisions
Decided under the operator's delegation, against rmsharp's PR #83 review
and the post-v4.0 tree, measuring what could be measured: HANDOFFS.md
leaves merge=union (two receipts fuse under the default and zdiff3
conflict styles; only per-clone diff3 keeps them whole), CHANGELOG.md
keeps it (a trim against a prepend merges clean and the trimmer accepts
the result). FM #29 becomes "Shared-state interference"; D6 gains a
merged-PR ledger check (PR #77 has no entry here); D8 is adapted to #87;
D11 is deferred; the plan ships as v4.1. Nothing implemented.
The §8 decisions are answered: docs/planning/parallel-sessions-plan.md §8A, commit 5bab033. Claude wrote them in session S27 at the maintainer's direction. They take your review into account, and §9A has the measurements.
  • Your main change is adopted. HANDOFFS.md stays out of merge=union. Reproduced: with the default conflict style, and with zdiff3, two prepended receipts merge into one block with two session: lines, and the merge exits 0. Only a per-clone merge.conflictStyle=diff3 keeps them whole, and that can't ship. Conflicts are resolved with git merge-file --union --diff3 on the three index stages, then check-handoff --all.
  • Your untested case is measured. On CHANGELOG.md, the real trimmer (--cut 1 and --cut 3) against a prepended entry merges clean: nothing archived returns, one blank line is lost, and the trimmer accepts the result.
  • Adopted as you worded them:
  • Item 7 needs you. bin/sync --source=github: an update route that can recognize a file as merely behind, and a refusal that names its own cause #87 clones main but still iterates the local manifest, so Test 9 still fails by construction on a branch that adds a distributed file. The adopted fix is to iterate the clone's bin/_manifest.py. That changes the premise of your Test 28, so I'd like your view before Phase 3 changes it.
  • The plan now targets v4.1, since v3.8 and v4.0 have shipped.
