Work sat uncommitted for weeks in several repositories of this workspace and progress files grew into change logs. The project guidelines now ask for a commit at every stage, keep progress.md to open items only, record finished work in monthly batches under docs/updates/ with an index and query commands, and add a short architecture.md overview.
Two parallel sessions picked the same entry number because claiming an ID first does not stop simultaneous writers. Entries are now numbered under an atomic mkdir lock in docs/updates/, with a duplicate check before commit.
Pushes to main now bump the patch version, tag it, build, upload to PyPI and create a GitHub release (skipped with [skip publish]). Closes progress.md #1; recorded as U-20260922-03.

Dockerfile_GUI and Dockerfile_NonGUI gain a selftest stage that copies the bundled sample and runs it; the default build is unchanged. The GUI image starts Xvfb when the container runs instead of in a build step. The samples now load a YAML file that exists and use relative JSON paths, so both self-tests run to completion.
Catch only OSError instead of every exception, and keep it as the cause of the ProjectException.
