Action Performed:

1. Sign in to ND
2. Create a workspace
3. Create a scan expense in the workspace chat, uploading PDF receipt
4. When the scan is completed, open the expense details and tap on the receipt thumbnail

Expected Result:

The PDF receipt is displayed

Actual Result:

Only file name is displayed when user opens PDF receipt for the first time after signing in or refreshing the app

Classification: Frontend bug
Causing PR: #78151 - "Temporary set image cachePolicy as none for iOS" by @VickyStash (High confidence)
Related PRs: #80435 - "fix: Scope iOS cachePolicy="none" to eReceipt only to fix icon loading delay" (NOT in this deploy, but provides the fix)

Recommendation: ROLL FORWARD

The issue is caused by PR #78151 which set cachePolicy="none" for all images on iOS (including PDFs) to prevent memory leaks. However, this causes PDFs not to be cached, leading to loading issues when viewed for the first time after signing in or refreshing the app.

The fix already exists in PR #80435 (merged Jan 26), which:

1. Reverted the blanket cachePolicy="none" for all iOS images
2. Scoped it only to eReceipt components where memory leaks were observed
3. Restored cachePolicy="memory-disk" for regular images and PDFs

Since PR #80435 is already merged and provides a targeted fix, I recommend rolling forward by cherry-picking it to the current deploy rather than reverting PR #78151 (which could reintroduce memory leaks).

• Current iOS code shows cachePolicy="none" in BaseImage.ios.tsx (line 52)

• Confirmed PR Temporary set image cachePolicy as none for iOS #78151 created iOS-specific BaseImage.ios.tsx with hardcoded cachePolicy="none"
• Confirmed PR Temporary set image cachePolicy as none for iOS #78151 modified ImageSVG/index.ios.tsx to use cachePolicy="none"
• Confirmed PR fix: Scope iOS cachePolicy="none" to eReceipt only to fix icon loading delay #80435 (not in this deploy) reverted these changes except for eReceipts
• Verified the affected files are in the PDF rendering path used by scan receipts

Root Cause

When cachePolicy="none" is set, the expo-image component does not cache images/PDFs. On iOS, when a user opens a PDF receipt for the first time after sign-in, the PDF must be downloaded fresh. If there are any timing issues with auth tokens or network, the PDF fails to render and shows only the filename as fallback.

PR #80435 fixed this by:

• Allowing cachePolicy to be configurable via props
• Defaulting to memory-disk for normal usage
• Only forcing none for eReceipt components (where memory leaks were observed)
