Oh, strange. I did not do anything phone-mic-specific, so I expected any mic to work directly as it usually happens with Android. I will need to look into this.
Using Tasker and a plugin called BlueTask, I was able to set my Bluetooth headset's microphone as sound origin for Dicio. It is a good enough solution for me until something better is available.
Thank you for work on #228 . While testing this, I noticed that when a headset starts Dicio listening, it uses the microphone built into the phone. If the headset supports it, can it use microphone(s) build into the headset? This should improve audio quality in situations where the phone might be in the user's pocket or bag.
Can the input to Dicio be separate to Media in/output? I want to use a headset for driving, and keep audio going through the stereo. From what I found on Fdroid version, Dicio works only with media connection that is active.
For some reason, for me, it feels like Dicio is using phone mic rather than headset/earbuds mic, even though the earbuds are paired. For example, https://github.com/futo-org/android-keyboard, when using voice input, clearly shows whether I wish to use the bluetooth mic or the phone mic.

I was looking at another project and think I found the docs for this: https://developer.android.com/develop/connectivity/bluetooth/ble-audio/audio-recording
