the Markdown Syntax, goes by sequence, so
Ben Fontenot is correct, and
[Ben Fontenot] (https://github.com/BenDFontenot) would simply display the words instead of displaying Ben Fontenot as a link to your github.
Syntax is one of those things that gets tricky, but with more and more usage you get clarity.
