Summary

  • Add API Route as a built-in OpenAI-compatible LLM provider with its own key, base URL, and model settings.
  • Expose API Route in provider labels, icons, key validation, and setup documentation.
  • Preserve agent tool and vision support for the default gpt-5.5 model by reusing its bundled upstream catalog facts until the API Route catalog entry is available.

Verification

  • npx tsc -b --pretty false
  • node --import tsx shared/model-capabilities.verify.ts
  • node --import tsx src/agent/ai-sdk.verify.ts
  • node --import tsx server/llm-proxy.verify.ts
  • node --import tsx server/key-probes.verify.ts
  • node --import tsx server/keystore.verify.ts

Live requests were not tested because no API Route key was available locally.

@DennyHo0917 thanks for putting this together. API Route is a commercial gateway and you maintain its SDK, so adding it as a built-in provider is a business placement rather than just a code change, and we handle those as partnerships, like the sponsor listed in the README. If API Route is interested, please reach out via the email on my GitHub profile, and we can revisit this PR after that.
