Amazon VA Interview Lab — Worklog

Task ID: 1 Agent: Super Z (Main) Task: Fix all security and infrastructure issues

Work Log:

  • Verified hydration mismatch fix was already in place (mounted state pattern in page.tsx and auth-context.tsx)
  • Upgraded password hashing from SHA-256 to bcryptjs with legacy auto-upgrade on login
  • Created JWT-based session management (jose library, HttpOnly cookies, HS256 signing)
  • Added email verification system with file-based token storage
  • Added honeypot + timing bot protection on registration form
  • Added configurable global user registration cap (env MAX_USERS or DB AppSetting)
  • Converted middleware to Edge-compatible in-memory rate limiting
  • Created server-side persistent rate limiting (rate-limit.ts) for API routes
  • Updated login/register routes with persistent rate limiting
  • Updated auth-helpers.ts with JWT-first session verification (fallback to x-user-id header)
  • Added emailVerified field to User model and Prisma schema
  • Added AppSetting model to Prisma schema for configurable settings
  • Created logout API route that clears JWT cookie
  • Updated AuthScreen with honeypot hidden field and verification notice
  • Updated .env with JWT_SECRET, MAX_USERS, NEXT_PUBLIC_APP_URL
  • Build passes with zero errors

Stage Summary:

  • All critical security fixes implemented
  • Password hashing: SHA-256 → bcryptjs (12 rounds) with auto-upgrade
  • Session management: localStorage-only → JWT HttpOnly cookies + localStorage
  • Rate limiting: in-memory only → dual-layer (Edge in-memory + Node.js file-based persistent)
  • Bot protection: honeypot field + timing check (no external CAPTCHA dependency)
  • Email verification: token-based with file storage, auto-cleanup
  • User cap: configurable via env var or DB setting
  • Schema: added emailVerified to User, added AppSetting model

Task ID: 2 Agent: Super Z (Main) Task: Generate media for app sections that need visual learning boost

Work Log:

  • Conducted comprehensive audit of all 14 components — identified 55+ illustration slots with zero existing images
  • Generated 23 custom illustrations using AI image generation with consistent brand palette (#1E40AF navy blue, #10B981 green)
  • All images saved to /home/z/my-project/public/images/illustrations/
  • Integrated images into 12 React components using Next.js Image component
  • Build passes successfully with zero errors
