What & why

The Launch Agent dialog offered muse-spark-1.1, which Meta no longer serves, so a hosted Muse agent launched with it failed every turn (model muse-spark-1.1 does not exist or you lack access). The dropdown fell back to the server's models.dev feed because the daemon advertised no Muse model list. Muse caches each provider profile's served-model catalog under $XDG_DATA_HOME/muse/model-catalog/*.json; the daemon's Muse factory now reads it, advertises the visible rows as vendor_models.muse (newest first, the server already prefers a daemon's list), and fingerprints the catalog files so the existing watcher re-probes when one changes.

Where to look

MuseModelCatalog.Read returns null rather than an empty list when nothing usable exists, the same contract as the Codex and Pi probes: an empty list would suppress the server's catalog. A catalog file that first appears after daemon start is seen on the next restart, like every other vendor's startup snapshot.

Verification

Reproduced on kurrent (kcap 1.3.1, Muse Code 1.4.11): session 01a15c61dd3a74e08b17193a89ee3ba7, daemon log Launching agent 5370691c … model=muse-spark-1.1, both turns terminal: failed. The machine's live cache (6d657461__p746268.json) lists muse-wonder-1.0, muse-spark-1.3, muse-spark-1.2 visible and no 1.1; the new tests use that document as their fixture.

Meta's served-model list reaches the daemon only through the catalog Muse writes on each
run; the server's feed keeps retired ids that Muse then rejects on every turn.

📝 Walkthrough

Muse now reads model options from cached catalog files. The hosted agent runtime returns visible catalog models and includes catalog files in its fingerprint paths.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 67ad9

Muse catalog discovery appears ready to merge after normal checks; no actionable merge-blocking risk is identified.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 67ad9

This adds locally cached launch choices without changing execution permissions. No exploitable boundary bypass was established, but account isolation across combined cached profiles remains unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — A principal able to alter the configured catalog files can influence the using daemon's advertised launch IDs and labels. The inspected flow establishes advertisement influence, not credential acquisition or authorization bypass; downstream account and tenant exposure remains unverified.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Accepted rows must name the fixed launch provider and be visible. Launch construction supplies the selected ID as a separate argument with shell execution disabled. The full PR diff leaves sandbox flags and process construction unchanged; the new exposure is cache-to-advertisement influence, not a demonstrated shell-execution path.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Catalog state is constructed locally and published through new arrays and dictionaries rather than mutating an advertised collection. Refresh updates local state before server re-registration, so a registration failure does not undo the local snapshot; remote publication may lag.

High-Level Assessment

The following are alternative approaches to this PR:

1. Query Muse for models on each probe
  • ➕ Could retrieve a fresher catalog without relying on cache files.
  • ➖ Would require a supported query interface and add process or network work to probing.

Recommendation: Use Muse's existing cache as proposed: it reflects the models Muse serves without introducing a new query dependency. Returning null for an unusable cache preserves the server fallback.

Remediation recommended

1. Other providers' models appear for Meta ✓ Resolved
Description
MuseModelCatalog.Read combines visible rows from every provider-profile file without checking its
provider_id or profile_id. If the cache contains a model unique to another provider or an
inactive profile, the picker offers its ID even though launches always pass --provider meta and no
profile selection.
Code

src/Capacitor.Cli.Core/Harness/Muse/MuseModelCatalog.cs[R26-30]

+        foreach (var file in Files(dir)) {
+            string json;
+            try { json = File.ReadAllText(file); }
+            catch (Exception ex) when (ex is IOException or UnauthorizedAccessException) { continue; }
+            Parse(json, rows);
Relevance

●●● Strong

Cross-provider rows can expose invalid launch IDs; filtering by Meta profile identity matches the
stated feature intent.

ⓘ Recommendations generated based on similar findings in past PRs

Evidence
The reader processes every JSON file and validates only schema and rows, despite the fixture
documenting provider and profile identities. The launch arguments fix the provider to Meta and
forward the selected ID without consulting those identities.

Agent prompt
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution

## Issue description
The advertised Muse list unions catalogs for providers and profiles that the fixed Meta launch may not use.
## Fix Focus Areas

- src/Capacitor.Cli.Core/Harness/Muse/MuseModelCatalog.cs[52-69]
- src/Capacitor.Cli.Daemon/Harness/Muse/MuseHostedAgentRuntimeFactory.cs[126-132]
## Recommended Fix
Read only the catalog for the provider and active profile used by MuseLaunchArgs. At minimum reject non-Meta provider documents; avoid advertising profile-specific rows when their profile cannot be matched to the launch. Add a test with distinct models in Meta and another provider's cache.

2. Catalog parsing bypasses shared JSON checks ✓ Resolved
Description
MuseModelCatalog.Parse and Str compare JsonElement.ValueKind directly instead of using the
available JsonElementExtensions helpers. Every object, number, array, and string shape check in
catalog parsing follows this path when Muse catalog files are read.
Code

src/Capacitor.Cli.Core/Harness/Muse/MuseModelCatalog.cs[R54-59]

+            if (root.ValueKind != JsonValueKind.Object) return;
+ if (!root.TryGetProperty("schema_version", out var schema)
+             || schema.ValueKind != JsonValueKind.Number
+             || !schema.TryGetInt32(out var version)
+             || version != SupportedSchemaVersion) return;
+            if (!root.TryGetProperty("rows", out var list) || list.ValueKind != JsonValueKind.Array) return;
Relevance

●●● Strong

Recent repository precedents accept replacing direct ValueKind checks with shared JSON helpers.

PR-#1237
PR-#1287
PR-#1232

ⓘ Recommendations generated based on similar findings in past PRs

Evidence
The changed parser contains direct comparisons against ValueKind for object, number, array, and
string checks, which the compliance rule explicitly disallows when equivalent extension helpers are
available.

Rule 2270023: Use JsonElementExtensions helpers instead of direct JsonValueKind comparisons
src/Capacitor.Cli.Core/Harness/Muse/MuseModelCatalog.cs[54-75]

Agent prompt
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution

## Issue description
The new Muse catalog parser performs direct `JsonElement.ValueKind` comparisons instead of using the repository's `JsonElementExtensions` methods.

## Fix Focus Areas
- src/Capacitor.Cli.Core/Harness/Muse/MuseModelCatalog.cs[54-75]

## Recommended Fix
Replace each applicable `ValueKind` comparison with the corresponding extension helper, such as `IsObject()`, `IsNumber()`, `IsArray()`, and `IsString()`, while preserving the existing parsing and validation behavior.

3. Catalog tests bypass temporary-file helpers ✓ Resolved
Description
MuseModelCatalogTests and
The_factory_advertises_the_models_muse_cached_and_fingerprints_the_cache construct paths under
their injected temporary fixtures but create directories and files with raw Directory and File
APIs instead of the fixtures’ helpers. Every catalog test using Write, the no-files case, and the
daemon test’s catalog setup reach these operations, bypassing the helper-managed path and cleanup
lifecycle.
Code

test/Capacitor.Cli.Core.Tests.Unit/Harness/Muse/MuseModelCatalogTests.cs[R18-22]

+    string Dir => Path.Combine(Tmp.Path, "model-catalog");
+
+    void Write(string name, string json) {
+        Directory.CreateDirectory(Dir);
+        File.WriteAllText(Path.Combine(Dir, name), json);
Relevance

●●● Strong

Recent test precedents accept using TempDir or TempHome helpers instead of raw temporary filesystem
APIs.

PR-#1318
PR-#731
PR-#1345

ⓘ Recommendations generated based on similar findings in past PRs

Evidence
MuseModelCatalogTests builds subpaths from Tmp.Path and uses Directory.CreateDirectory and
File.WriteAllText; its Write helper and no-files setup use that raw filesystem path. The daemon
test likewise creates a directory and writes a file under Home.PathTo(...) with raw APIs, although
the injected TempHome provides CreateDir and CreateFile.

Rule 2767472: Use TempDir helper for all temporary filesystem state in tests
test/Capacitor.Cli.Core.Tests.Unit/Harness/Muse/MuseModelCatalogTests.cs[7-22]
test/Capacitor.Cli.Core.Tests.Unit/Harness/Muse/MuseModelCatalogTests.cs[80-85]
test/Capacitor.Cli.Daemon.Tests.Unit/Harness/Muse/MuseHostedAgentRuntimeFactoryTests.cs[162-171]

Agent prompt
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution

## Issue description
The catalog and daemon tests set up temporary catalog files with raw filesystem APIs rather than the creation methods provided by their injected temporary-state fixtures.

## Fix Focus Areas
- test/Capacitor.Cli.Core.Tests.Unit/Harness/Muse/MuseModelCatalogTests.cs[18-22]
- test/Capacitor.Cli.Core.Tests.Unit/Harness/Muse/MuseModelCatalogTests.cs[84-85]
- test/Capacitor.Cli.Daemon.Tests.Unit/Harness/Muse/MuseHostedAgentRuntimeFactoryTests.cs[164-171]

## Recommended Fix
In `MuseModelCatalogTests`, create the catalog directory with `Tmp.CreateDir("model-catalog")` and catalog files with `Tmp.CreateFile(Path.Combine("model-catalog", name), json)`; use helper-based creation for the final test’s `notes.txt` as well. In the daemon test, use `Home.CreateDir(".local", "share", "muse", "model-catalog")` and `Home.CreateFile(Path.Combine(".local", "share", "muse", "model-catalog", "6d657461__p746268.json"), content)`. Keep the resulting path for the factory assertions without calling raw `Directory.CreateDirectory` or `File.WriteAllText`.

4. Removed Muse models remain selectable ✗ Dismissed
Description
MuseModelCatalog.Read returns null when its last visible row disappears, but the daemon's refresh
merge treats the omitted probe result as a reason to retain the previously advertised Muse list.
When an existing catalog is cleared, hidden, or deleted, the watcher triggers a refresh, yet
kcap-server continues using the stale daemon list in the Launch Agent picker instead of falling back
to its own catalog.
Code

src/Capacitor.Cli.Core/Harness/Muse/MuseModelCatalog.cs[33]

+        if (rows.Count == 0) return null;
Relevance

●● Moderate

Plausible stale-state bug, but it depends on daemon merge semantics across services and lacks a
close historical precedent.

ⓘ Recommendations generated based on similar findings in past PRs

Evidence
The reader returns null for an unusable catalog, and the probe passes that result through; the
aggregator then omits null results. The daemon merges only fresh keys, preserving the previous Muse
entry, and publishes only a changed catalog. Edits and deletion of tracked files reach this refresh
path, while the server's picker prefers the daemon entry whenever its key remains present.

Agent prompt
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution

## Issue description
After Muse has advertised models, clearing, hiding, or deleting its catalog can produce a null probe that leaves the old list in place, preventing kcap-server from using its fallback.

## Fix Focus Areas
- src/Capacitor.Cli.Core/Harness/Muse/MuseModelCatalog.cs[24-43]
- src/Capacitor.Cli.Daemon/Services/VendorModelCatalogs.cs[8-33]
- src/Capacitor.Cli.Daemon/Services/AgentOrchestrator.cs[1559-1579]

## Recommended Fix
Distinguish a definitively unusable Muse catalog with no visible models from a transient read or probe failure. On a definitive transition, remove Muse's previously advertised key, publish the changed catalog, and re-register with the server so its fallback can apply; retain the previous list only for transient failures. Test an existing catalog losing its last visible row.

Every hosted launch passes `--provider meta`, so a catalog Muse cached for another provider lists
models that launch cannot reach; the provider is one constant shared by the reader and the argv.
