Due to increasing difficulties when trying to merge 1.0-maint into master (1.1), policy from now on for 1.0-maint changes:

• data loss fixes,
• data inaccessibility fixes,
• corruption fixes,
• small security fixes,
• forward looking compatibility improvements,
• docs fixes (easy to merge).
