Image size in popup mode

When only_render_image_at_cursor_mode set to "inline", the popup image window doesn't seem to respect the size limitations, but always uses the half width of the window, making the image much larger than its original size, and causing the rendering to lag. I prefer popup mode over inline mode, as I don't want two consecutive lines to be separated by an image. Is it possible to make the popup window respect the size limits?
